Question for the morning
How will Controller Wendy Greuel make good on a promise to audit the City Attorney’s Office now that a judge has ruled she lacks authority to do so? Does Carmen Trutanich invite her in, anyway? … If the City Attorney can veto her requests, is an audit under these circumstances really worth anything?

This from Boyle Heights aka CD Huizar.
Felony charges have been filed and an arrest warrant issued for a well-known Orange County political activist suspected of committing election and voter registration fraud, the California secretary of State's office announced Wednesday.
Investigators in the agency's election-fraud unit said Nativo V."Larry" Lopez, 57, of Santa Ana leased office space in Boyle Heights and registered to vote using that address although he lived with his family in Orange County. They also say Lopez, president of the Mexican American Political Assn., cast an illegal ballot in L.A. in the 2008 presidential primary.
The Los Angeles County district attorney's office, which is working with the secretary of State, charged Lopez with four felonies: fraudulent voter registration, fraudulent document filing, perjury and fraudulent voting. A warrant was issued for his arrest and bail was set at $10,000. The offenses carry penalties of up to three years in prison.
Lopez is a longtime Latino political-rights advocate in Orange County who served on the Santa Ana school board. Lopez has been a vocal advocate for Latino voting rights and supported immigrant amnesty and allowing undocumented workers to have driver's licenses. He could not immediately be reached for comment.
In 1997, the Orange County district attorney opened a criminal investigation into allegations that a group in which Lopez was a leader registered some clients to vote before they took the oath of citizenship. No criminal charges were brought, and Lopez demanded an apology from critics.

Lopez can now demand an apology fromthe Orange County Sheriff for not coddling him in jail.
it is time to teach these ACORN guys a lesson taught ot us by A. Lincoln regarding fooling all of the people all of the time.
It starts here...

Sounds like racial profiling to me. While the Sheriff of OC was on trial, someone had enough resources to waste on political payback on someone who registered to vote in one location but slept in another?
Can you spell Burke? Alarcon? And now we have a whole new set of carpetbaggers renting and registering at some dingy apartment in Valley Glen. Like they aren't doing anything different than Nativo. Ok if you are not Latino, come on folks.

Here's a flash:
Alarcon is a Latino!!! Seems OK for him.
It is OK to carpetbag, not to faudulently vote when you have not the right to do so.
That's why we have the joke of a President right now.

May I please, purty please audit your office's performance?
Maybe just a teensie, weensie little audit?
(Greuel should be happy for the political cover. Most of our local pols don't keep their promises and few ever intend to - but when a judge makes it "illegal" for you to keep your word, hey... THANKS!)

Villaraigosa carpet-bagged into CD14 to run for City Council in 2003. He rented a house in the Monterey Hills, 3+ miles from where his family was living in Mount Washington, put up bed sheets for drapes, plugged in a phone and fax machine, and slept there a couple nights in a sleeping bag, just for effect, and so people could see him drive out in the morning. Then, a year later moved back across the freeway.
Not that driving out of a house other than his family home in the early morning hours was uncommon for him then - but with all the other ones, he wasn't TRYING to be seen.

Doug McIntyre's been saying on his show that Trutanich must invite Wendy to do the audit since that was a key campaign promise, which is why he and a lot of people even voted for him at all, and if he doesn't he's breaking a key campaign promise.
Nothing in the ruling says that he can't allow the audit, and Trutanich did make a HUGE point of saying that it was HIS legal opinion AND personal conviction that the audit should take place.

yes jackson is dead -- 2:54's nasty comment so sadly typical of many of the regular commenters on this blog and the kevin james/mcIntyre crowd.
wonder if they'll determine the cause of cardiac arrest. he's had a lot of stress but was on the verge of a comeback tour, so sad. A day after Farrah Fawcett.

Superior Court Judges rule on cases. They do not set precedence. If Chick feels she is right, then she an Wendy should take this to the Court of Appeals. But be careful; when they rule, it is precedent.

Who is paying for the Mayor's big Volunteer Day of Service? He has free food on his flyer and a lot of city services will have to work on Saturday.

Was it Villariagosa's sister "The Judge" who voted against the audit; or was it another "benefector" or "contrib utor" to Villa?

LAURA CHICK WAS RIGHT !! AND THE COURTS AND THAT JUDGE KNOWS IT!! THIS IS A COVER-UP BY PEOPLE YOU VOTED FOR, SEE IT FOR WHAT IT IS!! IF GREUEL IS THEIR FOR THE RIGHT REASONS SHE WILL WORK TO REVERSE THIS DECISION AT THE SUPREME COURT. I DOUBT SHE WILL MAKE THAT MOVE. THEY MADE IT EASY FOR HER TO COVER-UP THE TRUE FRAUD AND CORRUPTION THAT HAVE SPREAD LIKE A CANCER IN THIS CITY. IT OUTLINES WHY EVERY CITIZEN NEEDS TO REVOLT AGAINST THIS CORRUPT GOVERNMENT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BEFORE YOU LOSE ALL YOUR FREEDOM. FILMMAKER FRANK CAPRA SAID IT BEST, "FIGHT FOR YOUR FREEDOM OR LOSE IT". HE SHOULD KNOW HE LEFT SICILY THE HOME OF THE MAFIA FOR A NEW LIFE IN THIS COUNTRY.
