Laura Chick's Last Day
From Rob Wilcox, Spokesman for Laura Chick:
We thank Ms. Chick for her service and will deeply miss her as the last person in City Hall who looks out for the taxpayer. We dread the future without her.
Tomorrow will be Laura Chick's last day as City Controller (and my last day in the office as well ) before she starts her new job as California Inspector General on Monday. Laura will be serving coffee and cookies Friday from 10 am to Noon in her Office. We hope you can come by!
We thank Ms. Chick for her service and will deeply miss her as the last person in City Hall who looks out for the taxpayer. We dread the future without her.

Bull diddy, she sure put one over on some of the public by making them think she's "the only honest one," ha-ha. She only did "audits" that would garner good P R for HER -- her own ambition was behind everything, and now she's got the visible job she's wanted.
I hope she does better than she did in L A. The Times is blaming Antonio for not knowing exactly which jobs are essential, and just how many people are needed and who can be let go. He never claimed to be a detail guy and it was HER job as Controller to figure that out.
Instead she audited LAPD and fired off press releases that they used a whopping $18,000 in bottled water over 18 months. She spent a lot more than that on the audit.
She took credit for "discovering" the DNA rape kit issue when public safety's Jack Weiss, Greig Smith and others plus LAPD had been releasing press updates on the issue for years. But women's health issues are "hers" in her mind -- and in truth she did hold a number of women's forums on the topic at City Hall. But lots of others did more detailed work actually solving problems, which she chose to ignore.
I don't like Rocky any more than anyone else but she shouldn't have turned their battle into a public PR stunt for herself, refusing to work things out with the Council. Her high and mighty attitude masks a fundamental inefficiency and the will to tackle the BIG issues.
Lots of people have their lists.
But the BIG failure was to advise and alert the council on the looming budget crisis and telling them which programs and people were superfluous or could be combined etc. She did NOTHING on the big picture issues.

Who signs the checks? The Assistant Controller - for 2 1/4 months.
Unlike many of the Anons on this site, I've had the firsthand opportunity to observe Ms. Chick in action for the past eight years. IMHO, she set one of the highest standards for City Controller. I don't believe I will see this standard surpassed in my lifetime.
It's the end of an era, and certain thieves in City Hall can relax, knowing Ms. Chick won't be around to discover what they've done to the taxpayer.
