They're all from his same county office. None of them will have to deal with whatever awful thing he may do in the city because they don't even live here.

That's kind of like Weiss calling a press conference on the steps of City Hall with all of the council members from Glendale, Burbank, Agoura, Santa Clarita, etc.

Not impressive endorsements when they're people who can't even vote for the candidate.

Keep going, Michael. Actually fact that Cooley's twisting arms to get endorsements for his drinking buddy from the smaller chiefs in County smacks of undue use of influence, very worrisome about HIS own motive. Cooley wants to surround the City with Republicans who have an "insider" at City Hall, smells.

Misspoke that these are all DAs from smaller LA County cities but they're all forced to revolve around L A County, what's Kern without L A's influence etc.? And they're all Republicans.

VERY stinky that Cooley is twisting arms so hard for HIS friend who's been shown to play the revolving door between City Atty's Office and DA and his private practive, resigning and rejoining as benefits his clients and himself, well-documented.

The Supervisors should reign him in, except he's known to have dirt on all of them so they don't dare. He uses his staff investigators to harass anyone who complains about him, including his own Asst. D A's. LAST thing we need is his slimy mini-me Nuch at the city level, hell no.

Jack has the name ID and is ahead in his old district by @15%, notwithstanding the bullpuckey in this blog.

The signatures for the "recall" were never filed so the ycould be 2, or 20, or 200, or 2,000, or 20,000. I'm betting less than mre, else they would have been filed. This district will vote the heavyiest in the May 19th election.

So, you may hate Jack Weiss, but you better get used to calling him "City Attorney Weiss".

By the way, his wife doesn't drive his city car nor does he lie on his resume...

It is pathetic that almost all of the comments here are obviously written by the same person. Does the Weiss camp have anything better to do?

District Attorney's are elected by the people. They are not beholden to one another like the councilmen are.

Who exactly are Weiss' law enforcements endorsements again? Oh that's right, Bratton. Is bratton elected? Oh that's right, he's appointed. Who appoints the police chief? The mayor, Villar.

Come on team weiss...you've got to find some better endorsements ASAP (and not a dirty politician from Sacramento who only votes via party lines) because your campaign is looking lame.

Weiss people must need to do this to make themselves feel better about the doomed campaign.

Today the Times reported that Tony V is backpedaling on Weiss's chances. The Times also reported that the cops union is spending $250k on ads for Trutanich.

Weiss has the support of a handful of young democrats who see the race as entirely partisan. It isn't and try as they might, democrats are not going to vote for Weiss - he's pissed off too many - that's why his endorsements are far and few.

Oh, and just to show how nonsensical the pro-Weiss bloggers are, the first comment criticizing Trutanich's endorsements "they're all people who can't even vote for the candidate" is really lame. Weiss is boasting that he's got Barbara Boxer's endorsement. She lives in Oakland when she's not in DC. So ...

As for arm twisting, get real. The only arm that was twisted was Bratton's. Everyone else in law enforcement knows who Jack Weiss is, and also knows that he would make a terrible city attorney, worse than Delgadillo.

Hit the road Jack!

If Trutanich is such a partisan lackey, why did Maxine Waters endorse him?

Why did Jack Weiss fare poorly in the primary IN HIS OWN DISTRICT?

Why are the cops who do the actual work on the street endorsing Trutanich?

The U.S.S. Jack Weiss is sinking fast!

Antonio, time to abandon ship!

Go to Ron Kaye's website and watch the video of Trutanich and Weiss debating in the Valley.

What a pathetic performance by Weiss!!

First question out of the moderator's mouth is what each candidate thinks is the best accomplishment of the current city attorney. (Try not to laugh!!)

Trutanich gives an answer highlighting the Neighborhood Prosecutor Program, which most people know is an absolute joke.

Weiss immediately starting asking Trutanich for his client list from private practice!!!

Hey Jack, answer the damn question!!!

We would've loved to hear you say that Rocky has done NOTHING RIGHT. You would've been more correct than Nuch, and then later you could've slammed his NRA connections.

It shows that Jack Weiss doesn't care about the office or the people who work in it.

You just lost a lot of votes, Jack.

So while Jack Weiss and Nuch may sit two feet from each other at debates, their perspective on issues are miles apart.

Guns:

Nuch's lawfirm defends the NRA.

Weiss has been a leader in getting guns and bullets off the streets, hence the Brady Coalition endorsement.

Environment

Nuch has literally defended sea lion killers.

Weiss was hailed as evironmentalists of the year by Heal the Bay.

Crime

Nuch has defended convicted rapists.

Weiss has lead the effort to fund rape kits for the LAPD.

Community:

Weiss has lived in LA for many many years.

Nuch just moved in months ago.

Partisan affiliations

Nuch isn't a democrat

Los Angeles and Weiss are -- hence his endorsement of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.

I think you're wrong 10:37. I think the Dems will endorse and party line sheep will vote. NO Dem will vote for a man with Trutanich's environmental record. That is all there is to it.

Suck it up Trutanich lovers. He screwed up badly with his environmental clients and all the young voters WILL vote for him.

Weiss will only do badly in his own district with those who signed the recall against him. The other half of the district will vote for Weiss, as will most of the rest of the city.

And again, the mayor didn't throw him under the bus. He simply said that it wouldn't be an easy race and that Jack wouldn't be a shoo-in. But Jack will get the Dem money and he will win.

Weiss and Trutanich are miles apart on issues. Thank god!

The points that 2:50 tries to make are basically one point - Trutanich is a defense attorney.

Weiss must be insane if he thinks attacking the duty of an attorney to defend a client is somehow a disqualification for public service. The right to defense counsel of your choice is a 6th Amendment right.

It's a right that Jack himself has used and enjoyed when he needed defense attorneys to represent him in the criminal investigations (plural) over Jack's relationship with Alan Casden's property development company (illegal campaign contributions) and his relationship with the Entertainment Industry Development Corporation ($8,000 lap-dance bill).

So while Trutanich fulfills the command of the 6th Amendment in representing defendants, Weiss violates the law by representing property developers, contractors and billboard operators.

Yeah 2:50, they're are miles apart.

I'm not a Trutanich or Weiss person. Having said that I don't like Trutanich and his egotistical manner. Cops have no clue who Nuch is because their union doesn't tell them or allow them to have a say who they back. Cooley and Nuch word is both alcoholics. Trutanich supports NRA. Really big issue in LA when you have so much gun violence. Weiss is looking pretty good right now.

They are working on their own to defeat Trutanich and remind people that he's anti-union. This is the kind of thing that happens in a democracy, at election times your deeds come back to haunt you. In this case in the shape of a rat.

"jack weiss refusing to succumb."

What did you mean by that? That the Jack Weiss campaign has dug further into the gutter than has the Trutanich campaign allegedly has done?"

That the Jack Weiss campaign is run by the king operatives of sleaze?

From the beginning, the Weiss campaign has been attacking Trutanich. Furthermore, the Weiss campaign went into seldom charted waters by creating a FAKE Trutanich website, then directing people to that website.

To the extent anyone would want to run a smear campaign against Weiss, one of the hardest decisions would be determining what ammunition to use--Weiss' ignonimious record as a councilpoltroon has provided so much that can be used against him.

Weiss yaps about people looking at his record.

OK, can anyone discuss a major achievement Weiss has engineered in his 8 years as a councilembarrassment for anyone other than developers or other campaign contributors?

If Weiss had represented his clients--that is his 5th District constituents and City residents as a whole--one tenth as well as Trutanich apparently represents his legal clients, Weiss MIGHT be worthy of serious consideration to be City Attorney.

All-Star Lineup for L.A. City Attorney Candidate Becomes a No Hitter
By Greg Katz
Daily Journal Staff Writer LOS ANGELES -

What was billed as a prosecutor laden endorsement for Los Angeles city attorney candidate
Carmen "Nuch" Trutanich became a liability Thursday when his campaign was forced to cancel a City Hall news conference because of
no shows. Trutanich's campaign had touted that eight elected district attorneys from Southern California would stand shoulder to
shoulder in solidarity with the private litigator who's running against Los Angeles City Councilman Jack Weiss in a runoff election May 19. Instead, the event became an embarrassment when the
campaign pulled the plug a few hours before the scheduled event because of what campaign manager John Thomas called "last-minute
scheduling problems." A spokesman for San Diego District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, who was scheduled to appear according to Trutanich's
campaign, said Dumanis was in Sacramento Thursday. Kern County District Attorney Ed Jagels, also among the eight listed, said he had not
indicated to Trutanich's campaign that he would attend. The bungled news conference drew expected jeers from his opponent's camp.
"How are you going to run a law enforcement office if you can't even get people at your press conference?" said Weiss campaign manager
Ace Smith. "That's gross incompetence, and if you can't run a simple press conference, you can't run a legal office." Thomas brushed aside criticism, said the event would be rescheduled. "The issue
is, when you're getting together such a heavy-hitting list as the list was when I sent out the media advisory, schedules are insane,"
Thomas said. He said Ventura County District Attorney Greg Totten was coordinating the event. Reached by phone, Totten said he knew
Dumanis was out of town, but wouldn't elaborate on how the event fell apart. "I wasn't involved in the decision-making," said Totten, who was in Los Angeles on Thursday. Kern County prosecutor Jagels said that while he supports Trutanich he shouldn't have been listed as attending. "I suspect that probably some staffer got a little overenthusiastic, because I didn't say that,"
Jagels said. Meanwhile, Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas had initially planned to appear, but ended up on-call to testify in court, according to a spokeswoman. A spokesman for
Riverside County District Attorney Rod Pacheco was unaware of the event. Thomas said the campaign was e-mailing Pacheco directly.
Another scheduled attendee, former Riverside District Attorney Grover Trask, said he had planned to go until the event was canceled. Likewise, Joe Scott, a spokesman for Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, a strong Trutanich supporter, said Cooley "was certainly planning to attend." An assistant to San
Luis Obispo District Attorney Gerald Shea, also listed, was unsure whether Shea knew
about the event or planned to attend. The assistant said Shea was not in his office Thursday. A call to the office of San Bernardino District Attorney Michael Ramos, also scheduled to attend, was not returned.

OUCH!!!!

cut through the spin...the Trutanich campaign is a mess- scared to debate, unable to organize a City Hall press conference

Trutanich is a guttersnipe plain and simple. His whole campaign started in the sewer with the lies about Weiss, told with nasty twists on "Mother Goose" and putting Weiss's face on animals in mailers, smearing him under "Initiatives" section on his website, lies and condescending sneers at public service in general, using xenophic manic Berger to act as his mouthpiece and alterego at every "debate" and now on every blog...

L A Weekly's Steve Mikulan calls him "the San Pedro fixer...a better dressed version of (former San Pedro Councilman, also Dalmation) Rudy Svorivich," now a lobbyist. That's being generous!

But when Weiss's team finally had enough and Ace was let loose he cried boo-hoo, can't take it and went running. More of a crybaby than zuma-dogg who at least does what he does by himself and for his own notions of "community service" however misguided he is. Trutanich united the "revenge posse" and the xenophobes, racists and negativists of every kind but couldn't withstand any scrutiny.

That Fake On-the-Take Trutanich has already fallen apart like Humpty-Dumpty and nothing will put him back together again.
