9/11 truthers are the modern version of witch hunters -- though far more amusing and thankfully, less dangerous.

Sarah,

Many of us have read your stuff posted on this blog and others. You are a good writer, if perhaps lengthy. But heartfelt. Your personal story of your journey of growing up male and changing your sex was very touching.

But this crazy conspiracy stuff has got to stop. It makes this blog look like it is run by nuts.

Conspiracy theorists have a way of taking tiny discrepancies and forging them into something that the weight of evidence is against. If 9/11 was staged, why didn't they go for the Empire State Building or the White House? Those are better symbols.

If 9/11 was staged, why didn't they do an attack in Middle America too, just to be sure those voters would feel the pain and vote for the policies?

If this group is so powerful as to stage 9/11, why did they need consensus from the voters anyway? If they can remote control planes, why can't they just hack into electronic voting machines?

Why do Presidents change office, for that matter? If all Presidents are puppets of this odd conspiracy, why did the elder Bush only get one term? Surely it'd have been easier to just give him two.

You see where I am going? You don't seem to think these things out too well. And you bring down the blog with this craziness.

If as you note the blogosphere is a source of good reporting these days, why bring down LA's best political blog with this nuttiness?

The conspiracy theorists are quite a bit like religious fundamentalists. They insist upon answers for everything. When they can't explain certain things the religious nuts fall back to divine intervention, and the conspiracy nuts just start making up stuff that sounds believable to others who need to believe that there are dark and sinister human forces controlling us like puppets, and that no matter who is in the White House, in Congress, or head of the CIA, NSA, Homeland Security, and no matter who is in charge of the major news outlets, some dark shadowy force is in charge.

You know, it's not like the theory is that ANY 125 people can control world; it's the 125 of the RICHEST people in the world do. Why do people think that's so far fetched?

Money is power... ultimate power... period. I feel that if one DOESN'T believe, they're loony! Sorry.

Money buys power. Rich people control more of what happens in this world than poor people. That's given.

But they don't control everything.

It is possible that some terrorists got together and decided to commit horrible acts of violence on the U.S. because of their religious beliefs.

Also, being in government, you'd be surprised how much crap happens just out of sheer incompetence, not as the result of a conspiracy -- the sinking of the Titanic, the devastation of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and whole host of other things happened because of human error or dumb luck.

I'm so afraid that your next post will be about the conspiracy to cover up UFO visits, or that rich people cause volcanoes to erupt.

Why weren't all all those rich and powerful people able to stop the economic collapse and the personal loss of billions of dollars each?

Will any of the rich people be able to stop the earthquake that is supposed to hit Sunday?
