Memo to the "LA ANTONIA TIMES" from Walter......
This from the comment section at "L.A. Now" post on "Villaraigosa's fundraising".
You'd never know it from reading the L.A. Times, but there already IS an announced Mayoral candidate, who has raised over $101,000 so far, namely, me, Walter Moore.
I'm having a Rally in the Valley fund-raising event tomorrow, Saturday, June 28, 2008, at CSUN in the Shoshone room, and if you're reading this, you're welcome to attend.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the presentation starts at 2:00 p.m.
For details, visit my website.

you're holding a fund raiser at a room at a state university? are you nuts?

Don't public universities have to give both sides equal time?

u can't have a fundraiser at a public university supported by taxpayers.

If anyone gives you a check in a public building and you accept it knowingly, you are both guilty of a crime; the Bar Association of the State of California will be writing you soon.
But, good luck on your campaign; you wouln't ne the first mayor to seve time.

OBVIOUSLY, these first three comments were posted by THE SAME PERSON.
For your information dopey, this is a RENTED room, not a donated one. The comparison you're not-so-vaguely trying to make to LAUSD is incorrect.
It's just too bad that you sat home on a Friday, making three comments just one hour apart.
Nice try with your effort to change your cadence, Jimmy Blackman.

I'm just a casual observer, andI understand that this could be seen in a certain light. But I think it is above board...
The short answer is most likely the room is rented under the auspices of the TUC "the University Corporation", a non-profit entity, separate from CSUN, whose profits benefit CSUN. Many universities have such entities to manage those activities which financially benefit the institution but fall under different federal and state regulations for one reason or another. Often student unions and foundations which support the university are under separate control from the institution itself.

i left the first comment and not the other two. i am not jimmy blackman, i do, however, have extensive political experience. i have never seen a candidate hold a fundraiser at a public university. even if it is technically legal, which i doubt, it would needlessly draw criticism, which is clear. look what happened when home depot tried using a public school for its outreach, which was also technically legal.
Two points: when it's so easy to have the event somewhere else, why take the chance of being criticized? It shows poor judgment. Second, blaming every criticism of Moore on some evil conspiracy run by Jimmy Blackman is pure paranoia and highlights the amateurish nature of his campaign.

OH MY, Wacko Walter's profile is rising SO fast for a gad-gnat.
L.A. NOW of all places (that'll show that washed-up L.A. Times).
What's next Wacko, a letter to the editor in Citybeat?
A sign held up behind the moderator's close-up on Telemundo?
Another call-in to Doug McIntyre (remember the HUGE difference his show mamde to the last mayoral election).
Take about half that $100K and hire a real PA flak, before you nosedive further into obscurity.
The asterisk leading to your "footnote" in L.A.'s current history is fading faster than cheap blue jeans left out at low tide.
Either way, it's only going to change the outcome by a percentage point or two - and I'll still be here smirking and giggling, 9 months from now, when you're trying to make lame excuses about how your 3-4 percent of the total vote cost you only (actually, the saps you conned into contributing) a FRACTION per vote of Tony Villar's.
Yeah, and they saved a fortune on the lifeboats on the Titanic, too.

Jimmy Blackmun is related to Jose Sigala and David Galaviz.

Oh 8:28, shut up.

The danger for Walter in holding an event like this is that no one will show up. Then aside from not being able to raise money, it will become clear that he doesn't have any grassroots support. And don't you kind of guarantee disaster by announcing the event the day before?

You should post a thread about MDs who work in the City jails. I hear that Mayor AV is backing a nasty plan to lay most of them off. This group is plenty pissed right about now. Most of them have worked for the city for several years. Under the guise of budget cuts, GM Maggie Whelen, has been directed by the mayor's office to cut/re-structure medical staffing in the city. This move would cause police officers to burn more gas while driving about the city to find a jail with medical coverage. Overtime cost would likely increase for officers. The City will end of paying millions annually in unintended cost. Not smart to increase liability and cost! Only in L.A.

Not sure what rules apply to this case, but generally, non-profits are also prohibited from hosting political fundraisers. This could be an exception, based on the terms of their contract. But it's a general "no-no"

YOu go Walter..You are the David against the Goliath. At least you have the guts to run against an idiot Mayor who has no shame or class. A Lot of people talk but rarely do they have the guts to put themselves out there. Good luckl

This is a true statement, "The University Corporation", separate from CSUN, whose profits benefit CSUN." I am a CSUN employee, who knows.
