"Binge Taxation" continues on Spring Street

Feed the Beast!!! Feed the Beast!!!

Was that the unspoken chant of yesterday "Taxation, err, Revenue Day" at City Hall?

What new "recipes of taxation" did our City Council come up with to feed the appetite of the "Fiscal Monster on Spring Street"?

The Daily News has some for your review (and resulting revulsion) in today's edition of the "Moldy Green Sheet".

Have a "Dacha" that measures out to over 5,000 square feet of proletariat pleasure? Leave it to the "Zorro Marxist" to express his disdain for your lifestyle by proposing an "rich tax" on your electrical usage.

Need urgent help from Police or Fire?? That 911 phone call is going to cost you a few pesos if some on the Council have their way, that cost may include lawsuit fees if this goes forward.

But for one moment lets channel the thoughts of our various Council members and create our own "Revenue Recipes" to feed the "Fiscal Beast on Spring Street".

"Flash Bulb Exposure Fee":
$5.00 "fee" for every flash from a city-owned camera use to record useless, symbolic photo-ops that take away tax payers salary time from true objective problem solving. $2.50 "fee" for all media who waste column inches in posting these ego-inflating images of self-importance.

"Spollcheck Fee for Bloggers"
Red Spot's "self-imposed fee" dedicated to the continuation of "bloggin discourse".

"Los Angeles Times Insider Fee"
$10.00 "fee" levee on the "WWG" for each posting on the inside happenings at the "OLD GREY HAG ON SPRING STREET". Potential "BIG" source of revenue.

"Fee for Fee Waivers"
$5,000 "fee" charged to the operation fund of the Councilperson who uses taxpayers dollars to offset costs for community events organized by "fiscal friends" of the respective council members.

"Spin fee for P.R. Spoke holes"
$100 "fee" for each "press release of spin" from the likes of Alatorre, Sugerman, Watkins, Home Depot, and any lobbyist who spin against the public interest.

"Fee for posting Bloggin retorts"
Just kidding........for now.

Fine the City Councilmembers for showing up late and leaving early. Give them a few sick days each year, and then have them forfeit their day's salary for missing meetings after that.

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen (adjusts David Clarks and gives finger to control tower at Santa Monica as Citation flies by on approach to Van Nuys):

Well, now that we've given the universal one fingered sign of displeasure to the City of Santa Monica, we're free to do other things. (Talks to ATC) What new recipes of taxation are on the menu? (Adjusts flaps and confers with Navigator) Well, jacking up the ramp fees at the local aeroport might be one of them. But the one that we've got our eye on is the programme to make all feline owners get a City license. (Whispers) It's the unlicensed pussies that get you into trouble, savvy?

(Puts gear down and lines up for final approach into Van Nuys) If not that, then a tax on filling pot holes...if the hole in front of your hut is plugged, you get to pay for it!

(Citation lands. Captain Jack taxies to terminal and tells tower to have a nice day) Oh, and before I forget; Red Spot, are you there? Last evening I got a call from a colleague of yours asking for some assistance. I gave it to her (speaks confidentially) for all she really needed was a date, savvy? (Returns to normal speaking voice) It's my understanding that she found what she was looking for and she's sent it on to you. I'd take a look at it for if you look close enough, you might find someone outside the boundaries. Savvy?

How 'bout $25 fee to each clowncilmember who conducts business during Public Comment. No, make it $100. It's so disrespectful when people are trying to voice opinion on issues that matter to them, and our clowncil is too busy catching up on sleep, talking, nose-picking or any number of things that lessen the meaning and purpose of Public Comment. PAY ATTENTION TO US! We voted your asses in and we can vote them out.

I'm surprised no reporter has reported the Mayor's staff budget. He has 26 city cars, tons of deputy mayors, tons of pr, press, staffers, little Latina women walking around dressed as if they're going out dancing.....It would be interesting to see how much more the Mayor's office budget has increased compared to others. Leave it to the Gang Banger Mayor Antonio to have screwed up Los Angeles worst then anyone in the history of the city. We told you NOT to vote for a Latino..

HITTING ANGELENOS' POCKETBOOKS?
Some fees discussed Wednesday that could be passed by simple approval from the Mayor and City Council:
Levy a $2.25 monthly fee on every phone line to cover the cost of 911 dispatch. Would generate $65 million a year.
Increase parking violation fines to recoup the cost of parking enforcement. Would generate $10 million to $50 million a year.
Add a $125 "user fee" on traffic violations to cover the cost of traffic enforcement. Would generate $30 million a year.
Set regular street-sweeping schedules for 8,600 miles of city streets that do not currently have established sweeping plans and post no-parking signs during planned street sweeping. The parking enforcement would generate about $20 million a year.
Offer residents the option of paying a voluntary emergency medical services fee of $6 per bi-monthly bill that would give subscribers free ambulance service to their homes. Would generate $16 million a year.
Increase parking meter fees and expand the hours when people need to pay to park on the street. Would generate $10 million.
Some revenue-generating options discussed that would require a vote by Angelenos:

Increase the city sales tax by up to 1 cent to generate about $400 million a year.
Raise the occupancy tax paid by hotel guests to generate $450,000 per half-percent increase.
Raise the document transfer tax charged when anyone sells a home. Each dollar increase would generate $14 million a year.

I used to work for a council office and when people called to know if their street would EVER be put on a street sweeping schedule the answer was NO, that the city had no funds to add any miles for street sweeping. Now it seems they CAN add miles, with the sole purpose of catching people parked their on sweeping day. Amazing what the city can do when it wants to find revenue. I hate this mayor. I hope he gets voted out. As for the council members, I'm hoping one day people will rise up against them. They are the most pathetic bunch we have ever had. They grandstand and ignore people testifying for public comment. Shameful.
