Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday

Red Spot had it here yesterday - USC sick of the crap they're getting from the Coliseum Commission in negotiations for a new lease to play football in the stadium may bolt for the Rose Bowl. The Trojans are proposing a 10 year $100 million deal to repair the Coliseum themselves and take over its management. The Commission is holding to some pipe dream that NFL football is coming and only want to rent to USC for home games only. The idiots on the Commission need to wake up and realize what a major loss it would be for USC to leave LA and reward them for their decades long loyalty. Fight on!

Ten years later and Bernie is still bitter about the LAPD's "3-12" schedule that allows officers to work three days a week if they work 12 hour shifts. The plan is popular with officers. Many officers can not afford to live within city limits and live far from where they work. Fighting traffic three times a week instead of five is less stressful. Giving them four days to rest extends their usefulness. This time though Bitter Bernie managed to drag Jan Perry away from banning fast food long enough to mess with the cops.

Most readers know the old, dead Republican Mayor is the first to pounce on Clowncil members when they do or say anything remotely stupid. However writing about Wendy Greuel's "transportation mission statement" Boi From Troy was a bit over the top in comparing her comments to "something the pointy-haired boss would think up in a Dilbert cartoon." Actually in calling for the outline of plan with measurable goals and metrics Greuel is actually quite businesslike. Still busted up about Lloyd Levine getting hitched Scott?

Saturday is the 52nd anniversary of Rosa Parks' bold stand for civil rights when she fought segregation in the South. The County of Los Angeles has declared it 'Rosa Parks Day" but so far the Los Angeles City Council has not yet done the same. With only one more Council meeting left before the day they better get around to it soon. They can fine time to condemn our country and vote against the war but seem to have a hard time honoring a real American hero.

Roy Disney has a major share in the family business, The Walt Disney Company who counts among it's many subsidiaries ABC. No wonder he's opposed to NBC Universal's plan to build a new facility at the Universal City Metro station. How old is this guy anyway? Why does he care about traffic that's 5-10 years away?

What's this? Mayor V - National Chairman of Hillary Rodham Clinton's Presidential Campaign - showing up in a Barack Obama press release?

Ann Cottrell - congratulations you've just become the 10,000th passenger to fly out of LA/Palmdale Regional Airport - what are you going to do now? Shake Mayor Villaraigosa's hand!

A Green Party blogger finds Mayor Villaraigosa's Million Trees program a "bone headed idea."

And finally - no jokes please; Gloria Molina is spending hundreds of thousands of tax dollars to build designated County "fitness zones."

Once in a while you actually find a good story and link: the one quoting Parks and Perry trying to justify overturning the 3-12 rule is a doozy.

Says Brilliant Bitter Bernie: "The perception of safety is not in the crime stats that come out once a month. The perception of safety is by the people who live there."

That's so stupid, even the dogg couldn't have thunk it up. Actual, real crime stats mean nothing: they are as much a "perception" as what the boys in the hood THINK.

Reality and perception are all the same -- in his mind.

Then Perry adds something equally stupid -- in Council today, she was asked to repeat it three or more times by Asst. Chief Earl Paysinger (who's also black), as he became increasingly annoyed at not having the slightest clue what she was trying to say.

Finally she snapped, "I mean just exactly what I said!" but finally managed to look embarrassed enough to shut up.

Paysinger reminded them again that their perceptions notwithstanding, stats were stats and they were down, and this schedule is what it takes to recruit cops.

Funny coincidence:

Bitter Bernie is also spokesman and the moving force of the Colliseum Commission. Which should just be abolished altogether -- under Bernie it's just an obstructionist organization, just like he is against the cops on the Council.

But instead of retiring and leaving us in peace already, this guy who's as confused as he is better intends to run for Supervisor?

Ridley Thomas, come save the day.

I meant above, that Bernie is as confused as he is BItter, not BEtter.

Of course, since reality and perception are one and the same, if you perceive he is better and not bitter, or bitter is better...

Ridley-Thomas is a good man, and would make a great supervisor, but he is also part of the problem.

He started this whole NFL myopia with the Coliseum Commission. Bitter Bernie just picked up the torch from MRT when he went to the Assembly.

Because of MRT, Peter O'Malley abandoned plans to build a football stadium in Chavez Ravine. Shortly after that, he sold the team to Fox.

You know the rest of THAT story!

County/RMC/Prop 84 = Waste of taxpayers money.

Everyone in the state of CA should look into what the RMC is trying to use Prop 84 funds for.

November 29, 2007 12:54 AM

The facts are that Bernie is a shoo in to be the Supervisor. MRT can't win the election because all the cards are stacked against him. He waited way too long to make his move and the community that will be doing the electing marches in lockstep to Maxine Water's wishes.

She has spoken, as has the current Supervisor Burke, and all others of consequence.

This election is predetermined.

Now, back to the Commission and USC.

This is just old fashioned hardball negotiating by USC; they aren't going anywhere and everyone knows it. They are trying to turn public opinion against the commission so that they can get better terms from them.

But, they already pay less than any other major university does for a stadium they don't own and isn't on their land.

Garrett is just a jerk who doesn't know a good deal when he has one. He played too much football without his helmet.

USC is greedy and they want to control the venue; they won't get that, ever.

The only thing that is sure about Bitter Bernie is that his cards have been exposed.

Bitter.
Ineffective.
Done.

Don't assume that the black community is going to accept the same old, same old, from the same only Bitter, Ineffective, and Done former copper.

A white or Asian person would serve that area better than Bitter Bernie. Fortunately, there's Ridley-Thomas. Let's hope that someone else steps in to Bitter Bernie's Council seat, too.

If Ridley Thomas was smart he'd go after Bitter Bernie's corrupt failure as police chief and ask the question "what has Bernie done for his own people in his district.?" Nothing. People don't want a clowncil member who doesn't like cops like Bernie. David Z does a good job pointing out all the Colisum Commissioners are political appointees not regular people. Its not true that cops work 3 days and are off 4 to rest. Ask any cop will tell you on their days off they are in court waiting for hours to testify on cases. All the large city depts. are on 3-12. Bitter Bernie is still very angry about being dissed by union. Remember this is a man who goes to church every Sunday yet acts like Satan.

HELLOOOO Connie Rice gave these morons her outline a year ago and they haven't done shit. They don't take the gang issue seriously. Add the Rev. The city should sell the old dinosaur to USC. Every other city has knocked down the old to biuld new stadiums, here everyone is stuck on the past Olympic stadium dreams.

If the city ever needs a new stadium, it won't be there, the neighbor hood has always scared off half the patrons. When TV came in strong, attendance dropped, especially when communities developed outside the local blackout area.

Regardless of how good a team is, if its a drag to get there, people won't come. Any stadium in downtown area will not attract those in the valley, Santa Clarita, and all areas east of LA. Too much of a hassle when we all have big screens.

The location would be great for another Home Depot :)

Rodney again.....

Rodney King, whose 1991 videotaped beating by LAPD officers helped spark riots, was shot while driving his bike in Rialto, police said today.

King was riding his back home to Rialto late Wednesday when someone fired on him with a pellet gun. King made it home and called police, said Rialto police Sgt. Don Lewis. King suffered minor injuries to his face, back and upper torso, according to police description.

Lewis said King did not give police many details about the shooting. King has experienced several run-ins with the law since the beating, including being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in 2005.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to sell the Coliseum to USC and the city's share of the money could be used for cops in the area.

I bet they could get $500 million for it.

Split three ways between the county, city and state that's about $167 million for the city.

Put that into an safe investment fund that earns 5% at least.

That would generate enough money on an annual basis in perpetuity to hire 80 cops for the area around the Colisuem. That would have a huge impact.

And as part of the sale USC would have to agree to maintain the historic nature, make it available to community groups sometimes, work with the city if the Olympics ever come back, etc.

I am sure most people would trust USC to take better care of it than the Coliseum Commission.

And even MAV said no NFL team so just let AEG build a football stadium downtown or let the Dodgers build one.

This story is very scary how the illegals are beginning to infiltrate this country big time.

Washington... Half of the nearly 3.5 million immigrants living in Texas are in the country illegally, the Center for Immigration Studies says in a report being released today...It said that 50 percent of the state's foreign-born population — slightly more than 1.7 million people — are illegal immigrants. Only Arizona at 65 percent, North Carolina at 58 percent and Georgia at 53 percent had a higher proportion of illegal immigrants in their immigrant populations.

Many people within the undocumented population are unskilled workers and tend to go to states where they can find those types of jobs, explained Flavia Jimenez, a senior policy analyst with the National Council of La Raza, a nonpartisan advocacy group for Hispanic Americans. And many go where there are already family members...The nation's immigrant population — legal and illegal — reached a record of 37.9 million in 2007.

Nearly one in three of these newcomers is here illegally. Half of the immigrants from Mexico and Central America are in the country illegally, and one-third of those from South America are illegal immigrants..."Immigrants and their young children (under 18) now account for one-fifth of the school-age population, one-fourth of those in poverty and nearly one-third of those without health insurance."..Immigration accounts for nearly all of the national increase in public school enrollment over the past two decades, the report said. In 2007, there were 10.8 million school-age children from immigrant families in the United States — about one in five of the nation's school-age kids...In Texas, 26.7 percent of the school-age (5-17) population had immigrant fathers. About half of these immigrant children — 13 percent of the state's total school age population — were illegal immigrants or the offspring of illegal immigrants.

About one-third of all families nationally headed by an immigrant use at least one welfare program — compared to less than one-fifth for native households, the report said...

Rants of a Northeast "ASS AWARD WINNER"

No, the collection won’t be stored in Mount Washington. And it shouldn’t be: anyone who saw the stacks of crates piled up like the final scene from “Citizen Kane,” who smelled the mildew and saw firsthand the deterioration of priceless artifacts would concede that the collection was in jeopardy; it was not being maintained to contemporary standards. It will be maintained and preserved elsewhere, as it must be. But of those 250,000 artifacts, only a tiny fraction was ever on view at a single time. Much of the collection hasn’t been displayed for decades and some it has never been seen by the public at all. The collection is vast; it’s rich enough to sustain two museums: our own in Northeast L.A. and another in Griffith Park.

Did Sekuler sell out the Southwest Museum for political favors?

Mayor Sam is about free speech, though, which is good. And he doesn't need to protect "deputy dufus" any more than Daniel Guss. He just shouldn't assume that anybody's posts are being ignored. I bet if he asked the guy who posted the video link whether it has gotten his video any viewers, he'd probably say yes, yes, yes. Hundreds! Thousands! If he's lucky, maybe dozens. Whatever.

Don't discount the power of Sister City. People are paying attention. If Mr. Video keeps repeating the link, maybe bloggers go check it out and he doesn't go away.

The amount of times someone goes to click on it doesn't give it more power. It might make the guy sleeping more known to mayor sam readers if they ever see him anywhere at a meeting, but I think the truth is that nobody cares.
