When I first heard about the Glendale tree-trimming fiasco, it was from a friend, and I simply presumed she had her facts wrong. She didn't, and today Steve Lopez writes it up.
But it's not so very different from what goes on in the City of Los Angeles every day via its kleptocratic business tax program.
Many citizens of LA have been blindsided by the LA "business" tax in which the City Clerk fails to distinguish very well between an enterpreneur and an employee. If you have a desk in someone else's office and work for them, you're probably an employee, but if they pay you via 1099 the City presumes you're a "business owner" and liable to pay business tax.
Of course, the City doesn't bother to review your case or your claim if you simply dutifully pay your bill. So before you pay your bill, and even before you plead your case to the City, get some advice from an accountant about it.
Did you read that on the City's page linked above? "Revenue generated by this program will be used to fund future business tax reform and affordable housing." The money, in short, goes to perpetuate the kleptocratic program itself, and the rest of it goes to the same damn developers who sponsor your City Councilpeople and Mayor.
LAUSD has hired two image consultants. Strangely, one of them will receive almost the exact same salary a City Councilperson receives: $178,000 for a year's work.
Supe David Brewer blames the expenditure on quotidien fishwraps; they "love to focus on all the negative going on in the district" he says.
Transpo Committee Chair Wendy Greuel says that we need to get people out of their cars, and el Alcalde fully supports that, the Daily News says. And? Next steps, anyone? There aren't any, so it looks like they're going in for another big round of paperwork, probably driving in their cars to dozens of meetings and photo-ops to put a strategic plan together.
Remember, with the City, it's not actually doing something, it's creating the illusion of doing something that matters.
The old NBC Burbank site is indeed being bought by M. David Paul and Associates, the biggest player in Burbank.
I've never seen my name floated before for anything, so this was fun. But I could imagine Council voting up or down on yours truly.

"Because Abalos does not have a college degree, he was ineligible to be hired as a district employee. A few months later, Brewer brought him in as a consultant on the condition he completes his degree. He's currently enrolled at the University of Phoenix."
Pretty damn good when you can get a job paying $180,000 without a college degree. What kind of example does that set for LAUSD high school students considering going to college? But I guess there was no one else in the country that was as qualified as Victor Abalos with a college degree. His first task better be spinning why Brewer has to creatively circumvent the District's hiring guidelines to employee some guy without a college degree in such a crucial position for the District!

If you fix the school bathrooms and remove grafitti from the schools, it will only take a week befor all the cholo kids destroy the new bathrooms. Go to any public library and the cholo kids have also destroyed the bathroom there as well.
Maybe the mayor should hire an image consultant for the city of Los Angeles, so people don't think it's turned into another Tijuana dump with lots of gangs and crime.
The Director of Animal Services for LA City has no degree. He went to almost one year of college and dropped out. He's getting $165,000 a year. While our Mayor failed the bar four times, at least he finished college.
Gloria Molina has no degree and she gets a yearly $1 million dollar discretionary fund on top of her salary and staff office budget.
Antonio needed to screw that UCLA Jewish professor otherwise he wouldn't have a college degree - 1.4 GPA!!
Laryy Gonalez was Alatorre and Torres' boy on the school board and he didn't have a college degree.
Richard Polanco got his friends Belmont contracts and he doesn't have a college degree but this didn't keep him from putting his mistress and mother of two bastard sons on his state payroll.
Don't be too surprised if Brewer hires Alatorre's sister and wife to do the consulting - neither have a college degree - Alatorre's sister is currently on the mayor's payroll.
Somebody needs to write a book about all this.
College degrees are not needed to run a City or any bureaucracy...look at any banana republic over the last century, as this is what L.A. is quickly becoming.
What we need is the "silent majority" to rise up and start a voters "junta" to get rid of the hacks running things and their backers. Maybe it's time to wake up the Valley and re-start the secession effort, as a start.
I'm with Bill Handel. He said on his show this morning that the LAUSD has an impossible task before it. There is no way they can improve the system with all the non-english speaking students enrolling in such large numbers. It's a lost cause, a losing battle. ...In his story on the Yagman sentencing, anti-LAPD reporter Scott Glover gives prominence to the theme that the government picked on Yagman because he is an anti-establishment hero. Here are the first few paragraphs of Glover’s article. Pay special attention to whose spin is given the primary emphasis.
Since the L A Times is often accused of being too-LAPD, especially by the black community and Parks, Glover's anti-LAPD shows that the Times allows a variety of viewpoints, if anything.
This spin is typical of leftists who also lionize Carol Sobel for all her lawsuits pending against LAPD for the "May 1st Mellee" (even though she's openly and actively recruited anyone who was there even tangentially, that is, she's literally an ambulance chaser).
Another leftie at the Times gave Genie Harrison, I think her name is (woman who got the huge payouts against LAFD for the lesbian firefighter and associates and represented Tennie Pierce. Even though fiscally responsible people, and the vast majority of the public, think this financial trend is ruinous, and we're paying for it.
As for the L A Weakly: it's definitely hit or miss under Jill Stewart. On her behalf, she's a libertarian without a strong bias politically, but negatively, she's not very discerning in some of her choice of writers (one dogg stands out), and this story's slant against the L A Times seems like get-even time: many anti-police liberals championed Yagman.
Cardenas's comment, in the long, long City Hall meeting today, does reflect where HE's coming from in terms of how his attitude that "because this is America," hard core criminals "have a right to be on the streets," is handicapping the LAPD in solving the gang problems. He should be working for the ACLU, not representing our city. --
Even the Mayor seems to have made the transition from ACLU activist to city leader, even though some don't like it and it's a delicate balancing act.

Issue: Why don’t the Hollywood liberals oppose illegal aliens that violate federal law, when they oppose people who want to work during a union called strike?
This is an article you should pass along to your friends. This shows how the Hollywood liberals are hypocrites on the issue of illegal aliens. So called union "scabs" are honest citizens wanting to work and unions oppose and harass them. On the other hand, Liberal Hollywood wants an open border and supports illegal aliens having the same rights as citizens, many even believe non citizen illegal aliens should be allowed to vote in American elections.
