Laura Chick Screws Our Everyday Heroes
Firefighters and Paramedics are dedicated public servants who put their lives on the line every day for average citizens. That's why it's a good idea they be paid properly and timely. And its a good when for some reason they are not - that when the City Controller promises to set things straight by a certain date that it be done.Well you guessed it City Controller Laura Chick has failed to live up to an agreement she made in April of this year with the city's firefighters that retroactive pay would be issued in August. Guess what? It's September and checks yet. Chick is now saying the checks won't be ready until October or November.
"I am a Firefighter that works hard and I expect to get paid for what I do. Why are you holding our Retro Checks hostage? I have a family to feed and take care just like you. It is unfair that we are made to wait on something that is owed to us."

When you're a big bucks city official who gets most of their expenses covered by the taxpayers perhaps a delay in your check is no big deal. But to working class public servants like firefighters and paramedics every dollar counts when you have to meet a mortgage, pay for your kid's braces, pay huge automobile expenses because the City's socialist policies make it difficult for you to afford a home in your own city and force you to live five to ten suburbs over.
It's also a bigger kick in the shins when the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City supported Laura Chick in her last campaign. Now of course they feel like Laura used them like an old hooker.
We suggest that if you support our firefighters and paramedics you do as the UFLAC requests and send an email of outrage to Laura Chick at laura.chick@lacity.org. I am sure with the appropriate amount of pressure Ms. Chick can come to Jesus on this issue.

Just because the woman is saddled with an apparently inefficient payroll system, sounds like the LAUSD problem, is no reason to personally attack her as though she's Scrooge.
But "reason for attack" is pretty loose in these parts.
As we roll into the High Holiday season, the term "Come to Jesus" seems to lack any real meaning for a nice Jewish girl like Laura...
Criticizing Chick for not doing her job is not a "personal attack." At least a firefighter with four kids to feed wouldn't think so.

Having worked with the City long enough we knoe that politicians and bureaucrats can very easily "find" money to pay for things when they want to.
Mayor Sam as your blog has grown in readership I've noticed an ever present increase in the number of City Hall staffers spinning on board. The new move is to toss a red herring that any criticism of a public official is a "personal attack."
The sad truth is that public servants mostly middle class workers have been screwed for some time and even when Laura promised to make it right she absolutely failed. That probably means she doesn't give a shit.
Pointing that out is not a personal attack. Its a call to action to the lady.
If Mayor Sam wanted to make a personal attack he could have made comments about her appearance, her age, her sexuality, etc.
Now lets take care of our city family Laura. You sure talk a good game.
Why don't they tell her they are all illegals ... they'll get paid immediately, with an apology bonus attached and a salary/benefits increase included for good measure!

John Perez, his gay cousin, paints himself as a man of the people, just like Antonio, but then prides himself as being the "swing vote." He gives an $8 million dollar loan to another non-profit while the people advocates of the commission vote against it - Zuma, put that in your bat computer.
What are John's qualifications anyway? Does he have a college degree? As a life long union oeprative, is he well versed in development matters? Or is being able to take one up the ass qualifications enough?
Um, excuse me but it seems that one should budget for house payments and groceries out of one's regular paycheck. To not do so is living beyond one's means. Overtime pay should be considered a bonus to one's salary and not be counted on.
I agree it should be received soon after the work is completed but LA City employees, and that includes the firefighters, are well paid and have excellent benefits. Hearing them cry about not being able to support their children because their overtime check is delayed just indicates a lack of personal fiscal responsibility.
The real issue here is why the checks are delayed. Mayor, city attorney, city council, wy aren't you questioning this?

The problem with Laura is that she is two-faced, even worse than MAV.
Laura, the woman who shrieks, oh that voice, in telling other groups hat they have to pay their bills to the city or else, can't seem to pay hers.
It's not like it was a minor issue but far worse. She promised the firemen their retroactive paycheck would be delivered by a particular date, and then pulled the rug out from beneath them. That's some track record you have Laura.
It isn't anything new. During her time with Joy Picus, she proved to be not only incompetent but nasty in her attacks of others. It's what incompetent people do when confronted with the truth.
Laura fancys herself as a great communicator, but is anything but. Hell, she's like a living Seinfeld episode, full of absolutely positively nothing.
Her so called audits, which are farmed out because she is unable to retain competent staff, would not in themselves stand the scrutiny of an audit. But give Laura a podium and you'll hear the same stuttering and stammering when not fist pounding over nothing Laura. She's the Queen of incompetence.
The firemen worked without a contract and both their union and city hall understood that once an agreement was reached there would be a need to pay back to the date the last contract ended. It happens with all city unions but Laura the incompetent absolutely hates the Fire Department.
It was not overtime folks, it was back pay that all parties agreed would be paid from the outset. Laura set a date, and now places blame on others for an inability to do some real simple math. No wonder there were no applicants
for the new fire chief job.
Laura Chick is a human asswipe who can't keep her word. She's proven it time and again, and the firemen and all union members have to wonder how far Laura the manhater will go to destroy our once wonderful city.
How much interest in the City earning by not hold up the payout?
