We got an education in math by going through LAUSD administrators' credit card statements. We found they were spending money. Lots and lots of money. Sometimes, $5 million a month, raising some serious questions.
Just think of your one- or two-page credit card statement at home, then multiply that by 1,700! That’s how many credit cards there are at LAUSD. Administrators spend it on computers, coffee, flowers, just about anything. We went through all these reports and found some interesting items.
$451 at the Sharper Image. $796 in yoga classes. $320 at this day spa in Valley Village. Over $1,600 on a company that sells U.S. Postal Service clothes and accessories. All taxpayers money. All questionable charges, according to the district’s inspector general.

The inspector general's conducted an audit earlier this year and estimated $4 to 5 million dollars in fraud of misuse, including charges for electronics and computers that couldn’t be justified.
Often we couldn't find the merchandise when we went to look for it.
There were charges to collection agencies. Money transfers to Mexico. Even a cruise to San Francisco. Plus thousands of dollars in movie tickets and sporting events. Even if it was used for students, it's misuse of the card.

But the district’s business manager defends the program. “There is abuse in any system and we take a look at where we can find abuses and we correct policy as it needs to be corrected.” [WRONG ANSWER! YOU CANNOT WIN DEFENDING THIS BY SAYING, "THERE IS ABUSE IN ANY SYSTEM"! You are still in the denial and minimization stage. Even the mayor's people could have spun that better.]

Most likely the credit cards in question are the ones that where stolen
And the holders just forgot to report the cards stolen.
If you investigate further into licensed home day care providers, you will find the trail of corruption goes to the State level. They are "licensed" by the state, received county money under the Gain Program, and a city business license. These "day care" providers received at best minimal training. Many of their clients are sent by these companies who are on welfare. Often they make deals with "clients" who don't need child care and agree to split the money with the day care provider receives from the county. I believe they term used is "double dipping". I'm told by someone who works for the county, there is so much fraud associated with the daycare provider program, it amounts to MILLIONS. I'm told, these "in home daycare centers" bring in hundred(s) of thousands of our taxpayers money into their pockets.
Don't you have anything better to worry about over there in Cleveland? And what happened to the second post, here one minute, gone the next?
This was allegedly discovered "earlier this year," so it refers to previous Board/ Supe of LAUSD. But the Admin. who says it's no big deal should have his butt kicked into line because if it really is $5 million or more off, that's way too much our of our taxes.
Cruises, yoga classes (if it were for kids it wouldn't be on a credit card, would go through however classes are paid -- UNLESS does it have to do with not getting reimbursed because of the crappy payroll/ payment system?), sone of that stuff does sound unusual.
I'd make sure there wasn't a good reason first, though -- like having to shell out on a card, then putting in for reimbursement? Who IS checking credit card expenses?
The "new" second post == the old one is what? == does make sense to follow up on, since there is a whole culture of people who live off of welfare reimbursements/ payments, and if social services can't even check on all the kids at risk, they probably aren't checking on these daycare providers unless there are complaints. And poor people probably are glad to get any care for cheap, and if a kid drops out, probably no one follows up.

Talking about child care provider fraud. How about that dope house in East LA busted by LAPD this week where thousands of dollars in cash, guns and narco prizes were found.
All inside of a day care. Was this day care funded by the Housing Authority City of LA run by Rudolf Montiel? Does HACLA know where all of the day care providers they are funded are located? I've heard not. Anybody else know anything else about it?

LAUSD corruption exists at every level. Title I councils at the Central District, school districts and the schools councils are corrupted. At schools the principals act as dictators, parents have to accept the decisions of the principals as how to spend the money they receive. Parents suppose to be stakeholders, but if a parent questions the decisions of the principal, they are made to look stupid or agressive. They will use the school police to threaten parents and they will even take it on her children in a shady way (as you say) At the Central level their is such a corruption parents form groups to attack each others insted to work for all the children they are representing, but their are shady actions. Some parents do have a heart at what they are doing, but others are just there for what they can gain for themselves and they are very strong. There are millions and millions wasted every year to support these councils that do not accomplish anything. All these millions stay at the top very little trickles down to the students. So it is a huge waste of millions every year.

To those who say MAV only wanted to get "controll" because of the monies wasted -- from credit card waste, maybe, to payroll problems which have actually meant OVERpaying about forty five million that WON"T be paid back, because "too many people will be upset" if the district does a thorough investigation into who got more, and who got less: to those critics of MAV, I say, what if he actually wants to clean it all up?
The couple who gave him fifty mil has NO stake in LAUSD, no kids, they live in Rancho Palos Verdes, a different district where, UNLIKE LAUSD, if you have a house worth over a million bucks and then some, you have a decent school. (Gee, would THAT be a shocking expectation the lack of which leads the upper middle class to not give a shit about public schools.)

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has steadily maintained that ceding him control over the city's flailing schools would turn on a spigot of private money from those who believe that the schools can be saved and that he's the man to save them. Fifty million dollars later, it turns out he was right.

No doubt Huizar when he was President of the school board knew of this corruption and did nothing as usualy. He's done nothing as a councilman and even knowing about the corruption at Housing authority with his boy Gustavo making $98,000 has he come out and said one word. Didn't Huizar put in a bathroom for himself that costs thousands? Someone needs to dig and find out if any of those credit card abuses go back to Huizar.
Los Angeles has the most corrupt city govt in the country. Why should we be surprised that the school district is any cleaner? They are all crooks and should ALL be thrown out of office.
