MTA SHOWDOWN THIS MORNING OVER FARE DOUBLING (HOW ARE THE "TOILET CLEANERS" GONNA GET TO WORK NOW?)

[Pictured: MTA riders show up for today's vote.]

Oh no...I've seen all the flyers on telephone poles and bus stops downtown about the "tarrif racisto" (racist tax) regarding the MTA bus fare increase.

I thought it would be another standard increase. I DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE DOUBLING THE MUTHERPHUGHER!!! An monthly pass increase from $50 to $100!?!?! (THAT'S MONTHLY!)

Now I know the bus union is holding Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa hostage on this one, and he is gonna HAVE to do this rate doubling. However, how is that gonna play with "his people"? (Not very good.)

So ZD predicts the community-robbing politician will have to come up with some reason to continue today's agenda item for another month. Cause he doesn't want to be in the room with a packed house of "toliet cleaners" when he approves THAT motion.

Man, I can hear the Anti-Antonio campaign commercial now:

(Mr. Announcer Voice): Antonio Villaraigosa promised to take control of the school system and provide real reform. However, a Federal Judge said it was illegal and unconstitutional. He said he was going to provide a "living wage" for the pueblos. Again, he FAILED. And now after raising fees to remove bulky items and hire more police and spending $20,000 to take his picture next to an airplane, he is doubling you bus fare. What's next? Reducing the minimum wage. We can't AFFORD one more DAY of this mayor, let alone four more years.

Paid for by people who don't want to tank the city.

ZD, do you ever get tired of yanking on that thing, hoping for Antonio to get a hit?

Every time you post like this, you underline his success and your failure as an wanna be activist and a human being.

Think about it.

What success....other than everyone knows he is an opportunist, out for himself, at anyones expense. Let him be VP or Ambassador or in the Federal Cabinet, but for God sake get him and all of his illegial aliens with him somewhere else.

Good post Zuma. Why do you think Antonio SAID he went to Sacramento to ask for more MTA funding? He has his team doing crisis pr to make it appear he cares. Doesn't MTA have more then enough money already, of course they do. This is all a scam.

Another supporter for the illegals is Cedillo. He can't even take care of his legal constituents but like the rest of our loser politicans does everything to help illegals.

Re "For citizens only," editorial, May 22
Let me get this straight: State Sen. Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) is sponsoring legislation that would enable undocumented students to receive financial aid at public colleges and universities, even though the same aid is often denied to many students here legally. What's wrong with this picture?

If there is such thing as a list of the most absurd legislative proposals, this is right up there with supplying illegal aliens with driver's licenses.

Here is a picture I find more disturbing; illegial aliens writing to their Federal representatives....they have no right to do that!!!!

CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY TO KEEP IMMIGRATION MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION Take Action!

The Following Amendments Could Significantly Affect the Latino Community

This morning the Senate continues to debate the immigration bill, and we anticipate that important amendments will be made to this bill. Please contact your senators today and urge them to vote:
1. “No” on the Cornyn amendment number 1184
2. “No” on the Coleman amendment number 1158
3. “Yes” on the Clinton-Hagel-Menendez amendment

1. The Cornyn amendment would make the entire Z visa program, introduced in the Senate bill, essentially unworkable for the Latino community. Many of the people who are undocumented because they crossed the border illegally, overstayed their visas, or used false social security numbers would be ineligible for the Z visa that could eventually lead people to legal permanent residency. We need a workable program that really fixes our broken immigration system by dealing with the undocumented population.

2. The Coleman amendment would outlaw state and local policies that prevent employees – including police and health and safety workers – from inquiring about the immigration status of those they serve if there is “probable cause” to believe the individual being questioned is undocumented. This is unworkable, costly, would make many communities unsafe, and trumps on the rights of localities to determine how to maintain the safety in their cities.

3. The Clinton-Hagel-Menendez amendment would move the cut-off date for legal immigration applicants from the initially proposed May 1, 2005 to January 1, 2007, the same date proposed for legalization. It would also add 100,000 green cards a year to aggressively reduce the backlog and avoid lengthening the eight-year deadline for clearing the adult children and sibling backlog. This backlog clearance must be completed before immigrants in the new legalization program can begin obtaining legal permanent residency status.

PLEASE CALL THIS MORNING. WE ARE EXPECTING THESE AMENDMENTS TO BE VOTED ON BEFORE THIS AFTERNOON.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

MTA is a county agency. How do you figure Villaraigosa, as a City official, is the power behind the proposed rate hikes, ZD? BTW, Villaraigosa's counterproposal is much much lower than MTA's.

Nope, it is a JPA. There are 13 votes and The Mayor of LA has four of them, each County of LA Supervisor has one (total 5) and the other four are two big and two small cities in LA County on a rotating basis.

AV has a big stick at the MTA.

Metro is governed by a 13-member Board of Directors comprised of:

* The five Los Angeles County Supervisors
* The Mayor of Los Angeles
* Three Los Angeles mayor-appointed members
* Four city council members representing the other 87 cities in Los Angeles County.
* The Governor of California appoints one non-voting member.

Anyone wanting info or where to call or write go to
johnandkenshow.com. They list it all. E-mails have been flying throughout the city telling everyone. Steam is rolling in the direction of the anti-immigration people. Even dumb ass Hillary now doesn't want the guest worker program or amnesty she did before. People are waking up to see how these illegals are ruining our country. They can't vote but when you tell them you're Latino and against the bill they sure as hell listen especially BOXER who is up for re-election. forget Feinstein cause she gives her husband contracts.

How does the argument fly that light-rail is more expensive for "the low-income-residents-living-on-our-taxes" than buses? Light-rail fares (red, green, blue, and gold lines) cost the same as bus fares.

I wish the Bus Riders Union would STOP criticizing MTA, and consider starting their own transit system. They would find out real quick that it takes a lot of money to operate one - especially if the transit workers are unionized! Maybe they're afraid of starting a transit system, fearing they would be in the unenviable position of being criticized by the very people they claim to represent!
