Times Endorses Rodriguez

In a major victory in her efforts to beat back Richard Alarcon in the 7th District, The Los Angeles Times announced their endorsement of Monica Rodriguez's Campaign for Los Angeles City Council on Monday.

The Times editorial board said, "voters in this San Fernando Valley district have an excellent candidate in Rodriguez." The Times went on the say that Rodriguez would "bring badly needed experience in bridging the public and private sectors." They characterized opponent Richard Alarcon's candidacy as "crass and cynical."

Rodriguez administers the California Association of Realtors workforce housing trust fund. Monica previously worked as Community Affairs Manager for Mayor Richard Riordan and Chief Deputy to School Board President Caprice Young. The 7th City Council District includes the communities of Sylmar, Pacoima, Mission Hills, North Hills, Lake View Terrace, and Panorama City.

The point of Prop R was to give CM's time to work their proposed magic in their districts. Richard "Flowers for" Alarcon is just hoping to fool enough to get elected, grab the paycheck, before fading and dying in the end. What's this guy gonna do with 4 years max? Nice foresight. Maybe he does fit right in?

Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll actually win. That way we won't get stuck with her running for school board in two years when Kornstein retires.

Does anyone know anything about Margie Carranza. I spoke with her a few times and she passed the ZD community activist litmus test.

As you may know, I spoke with Bill O'Reilly today, and he wanted to know, "What say you, on CD 7's Margie Carranza?"

Rodriguez's endorsements come from too many people that aren't in her district and can't vote for her. Why not get the actual people who can vote to endorse a candidate?

5:41,

You're right. Then again, endorsements don't win elections. Especially when it's a mayor of LA doing the endorsing.

At least the Times is calling Alarcon candidacy (along with his buddies Antonio and Fabian) the way it is, "crass and cynical", that they have forced out competition. Presumably with deals or promises for both Fuentes and Montanez.

If Alarcon wins, maybe Rodriguez could then be a stronger candidate for the Assembly seat (if she wants it...)?

Nah, if she has Riordan's backing, there is an education twist in there. I'm not saying it's a good twist, but there's bound to be an education angle in there.

The Times does it again. They are out of touch with the Northeast Valley. They claim they know what goes on in the Valley. They endorse Monica, what a mistake. The voters will demonstrate the right choice on March 6th and it won't be Monica. It pays off to have little Dick Riordan and John Shallman two big Proposition R advocates and of course we cant forget Daddy Fireman.

The Northeast Valley doesn't want a snake oil salesman, either. Frankly, Alarcon has been an idiot since he played the religion card against Katz years ago. But to run for office, get elected, only to leave that office just proves that's what's wrong with public service is the politicians.

Have you seen the hit pieces against Alarcon? They are priceless. Some of the best I've ever seen. One has his head in an energizer bunny costume "he keeps running and running" for 4 different offices in 4 years. And another portrays him as a frog hopping from one office to another.
Very humorous. Very effective. With the Times endorsement going to Monica, this could get interesting...

Sadly, I won't get the hit pieces, because I'm in San Fernando, but I can imagine.

The environmentalists can complain about the amount of trees that were slaughtered for this man's insatiable ego. What numbers did he pull in as a mayoral candidate?

We really don't need term limits, we need to limit how many jobs a person can run for in a short period of time--and how many addresses they can claim in order to qualify.

John Shallman and little Dick Riordan are really busy greasing Monica. Her mailers against Alarcon repeat the same message. Get creative Shallman you are weak. Stay tune for a nice suprise.

It appears that Monica is definitely a worthy opponent.
Alarcon a seasoned elected official should not have to
work as hard as he is.

He should be embraced by his constituents without much effort.
I thought this was in the bag, I smell fear.

Very interesting
