Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday
He worked for the opposition but now he's trying to join the winning team. Rumor has it that Steven Veres - a former staffer for Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez - is trying to seek employment with newly minted State Senator Alex Padilla - the very candidate who beat his ex-boss in the Democratic primary last spring. Local pundits are curious as to what effect this may have - if any - on his upcoming re-election campaign for the San Fernando City Council.
LA CityNerd has his/her (who is this Nerd anyway? lets find out shall we?) City Nerd Awards. And yes we are bitter that our blog nor any of our writers were shut out but more importantly the winners are a who's who of the hall of fame of safe and boring choices. But I will let you check it out yourselves.
In case you missed it, the 6th District Council debate which aired last week will be re-broadcast on Time Warner in the East Valley on Feburary 8th, at 7:30 p.m. on Channel 25.
Yuppies invited things like the play-date and the excessive coddling of children we see today. Now some yuppies are mad at other yuppies because the yuppie moms are having "wine tasting" sessions while their darling Ashleys, Jordans and Baileys attempt to be social with one another. What an outrage! When I was kid my friends and wandered the neighborhood ad hoc and impromptu and our moms drank in silent anonymity!
The housing shortage and the development of transit stations in previously run down neighborhoods has led to a massive building boom in Los Angeles. People need places to live and work. With little vacant land in Los Angeles, development has to be creative. Though there is possibly a case to make for some public investment in infrastructure, lets let the market solve these problems (as in many cases it is as a lot of the newest development is not receiving any government subsidy). And lets not bog them down with needless and counter-productive schemes like so called "living wage" agreements and "affordable housing" requirements.
Here in Van Nuys has unearthed a real gem - the trailer for the classic 1979 Crown International Pictures teen exploitation release, Van Nuys Blvd. Anyone my age or older can surely remember cruising down the Valley's main drag (and in my case riding in the back with older step-siblings at the wheel) before it not much later become a war zone. Van Nuys Blvd. seems to be slowly on its way back - and man it would be fun if cruising came back. But with a far more conservative and authoritarian approach to keeping the peace than in the late 70s its unlikely that pasttime will ever come back.

After reading about Gavin, LA just is too boring.
At least the Van Nuys Blvd. trailer is kind of cool.
Poor LA. It used to be a fun place.

Hey I was quoted in the Daily News. I showed up tot he grand avenue affair yesterday just to take photos.
So I did a little experiment with the daily news reporter and knowing the pattern of responses that would fit the daily news I questioned the grand avenue project asking if the taxpayers are going to foot the bill. Sure enough I was quoted in the daily news. So if I would have been asked by the LA Times about the project I would probably have praised the project a little and questioned it a little and wa lah!!!! I would have probably been quoted in the LA Times.
And you wonder why people aren't subscribing to these papers anymore

DON GARZA IN THE HOUSE, Y'ALL...Nice Job!
"The project will not only change our skyline, but it will add significantly to the economy," said Martha Welborne, managing director of the Grand Avenue Committee.
A lone critic at the meeting, however, questioned all the praise.
"Usually, the way these things pan out is they come before the CRA, they say they are going to do all these wonderful great things," said community activist Don Garza, 36, a Skid Row resident. "But the question is, are they going to be able to do it? And who is paying for it? Are the taxpayers going to end up paying for this?"

LAX LIVING WAGE ARTICLE:
Wage issue shouldn't end at L.A. hotel doors
February 2, 2007 latimes.com
The new legislation would establish rigorous requirements that the city must follow if it wants to extend the living wage to other neighborhoods or industries. [What are they please, reporter?]
But word inside City Hall is that the language being drafted won't be so cut and dried. It will keep open the possibility of expanding the living wage — as long as proper steps are taken to assess the economic effect of such a move. [In other words if your own studies can show you what you want.]
My hope, in fact, is that the fight at LAX prompts a robust debate over whether some kind of living wage should be imposed throughout L.A., as it has been in San Francisco, Washington, Albuquerque and Santa Fe, N.M. [It will be. CM Janice Hahn told me that "The truckers are next."
Some have questioned whether waitresses and others who rake in tips should receive the living wage. [Maybe...But truckers are next. Sorry, they are WAY more important because all big buisness cares about is moving stuff in and out of the ports.]

Steve Veres needs to get a real job, instead of hanging out at the House of Brews in San Fernando all day long. He must feel all alone now that Cindy is in Sacramento, no?

Hope clowncil gets the message. LA Slimes and Daily News making them look like complete idiots for the living wage bullshit. This week alone clowncil have made trans fats more of a priority then public safety, Daily News, now everyone is blasting clowncil for the living wage fiasco. Gotta love Daily News opinion today.
"It's a testament to the lack of integrity in the entire process, a process that was always about placating special interests, not trying to make L.A. a better city.
After brokering the deal, Villaraigosa boasted that "this is a win-win for everyone" - everyone, that is, except for this city's residents."

GOOD BLOOGGIN MORNING !!!
OUTTAKES FROM THE RED SPOT INSTITUTE
1. MAYORS AND RELATIONSHIPS:
The race for govenor is on for 2010.
Which candidate will sleep, cheat, and "HO" their way to the Democratic nomination ??. Gavin so far is in the lead with the string of hotties that his pretty boy looks and power can seduce. But don't count out the charm of "HIS POLLONESS" to stage a comeback crafted by "PARKE-QUE". "SON OF ALCOHOLIC DAD WHO'S LIFE STORY OF STRUGGLE CAUSE YOUNG WOMAN TO MELT IN THE PRESENCE OF HIS POWER OF SELF" work in progress....
THOUGHT TO PONDER:
Was their any political calculation to "HIS POLLONESS" comments about the state of his marriage ??
2."ROCKY AND BILLBOARDS":
$424,000 dollors will hopefully buy plenty of hidden locations if you are the billboard companies. the council is correct in asking for full dcisclosure on this matter.
3. "LOST MANHOOD OF DAVID FLEMING":
We at the RED SPOT INSTITUTE mourn the tragic accident that was self-inflicted by the supposed leader of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
In his pursuit of access and power, Mr. Fleming got screwed by the power couple of "HIS POLLONESS" and the "MADAM OF LABOR". the "SPRING STREET JOURNAL" was right on with their denouncement of the Living Wage Agreement. David, we will feel your pain when next time our tax checks are due. You need to network with fellow survivers of political sell outs.
4. "University of Scholastic Cheaters aka USC":
Leave it to those athletes, errr, student athletes to find a way to expand their linguist aptitude by taking a Spanish class at Trade Tech College. A, E, I, O, U, and get a "A". Great Job Trojans !!! Refer to the "DEPORTES" section of the "LA ANTONIA TIMES" for more details.
5. "DGARZILLA, TAX CRUSADER":
Great Job to "HOWARD JARVISZILLA" for standing up for the tax payers on the mater of the "COPORATE WELFARE CHECK" to the Eli Broad cronies. This stinks to high heaven. Start pounding your clowncil members now to vote NO.

Good morning Red Spot (removes hat and bows low):
During my years at Oxford, if I wanted to take a Spanish language class I simply spent the summer in Marbella. There's good pirating in Marbella, savvy?
And while the Oxford sports teams are not in the same realm as those at the local university, we can at least say that all marks were earned while en residence, and that the only trade and tech study that went on was at the local pub where one attempted to trade a private showing of his johnson to a female (the trade part) in exchange for her phone number (the tech part).
Perhaps your Institute will be kind enough to offer a class in trade and tech for young lads such as Mr. Dogg, provided you have a Tutor Johnson (winks).

ZD hears that CM Huizar WILL NOT be in attendance at tomorrow's CD 14 debate IF there is a $10 admission fee. If it is FREE admission, he will be there. His staff is talking to debate organizers to see about making it free to attend.
Also, thanks to CM Zine, CM Smith and CM Huizar for allowing ZD some "exclusive interviews" that I will be using in future articles.
ZD: CM Huizar, for tomorow's debate; what's the number one issue facing your district.
CM Huizar: (Looks at ZD, as if to say, "Are you crazy...It's obvious) Gangs!
CM H, thanks for being candid on the record with the Big ZD from 213.

Cpt. Jack,
Are you saying you want Red Spot to break it down on the realest to ZD, or "rat-f*ck" me as they say.
Red Spot is a great guy! Maybe you think he can guide me (which he can). Seems like the Cpt. is frustrated with ZD...I hope not...if you were a little more direct, maybe you could "guide" me yourself.
Otherwise...I guess F-it and I'll just stay the bull in a china shop...but i'm not trying to be.
See, at the end of the day, I care what Jack thinks, cause until recently, i thought we were on the same page...(he worked up credibility with ZD), so if there is something we are NOT on the same page about now...i wanna give it some consideration...So what am I considering.
And on a separate issue (i think) I know one thing. $10 admission=No Huizar at debate. Free Admission = Huizar at debate.

I hear they are still charging and the felon Art Pulido will make a little profit since he's the organizer. Huizar should not go to a debate where they charge the public. ZD a little disappointed you used your public comment time to brag brag brag and toot your horn shamelessly. You have really had good arguments on issues but when you stand there and say what a great guy you are and all the people who want to talk to you it loses the message of you being a public advocate. Still support you, but keep it humble man.

The Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council Invite All to a Jointly Sponsored “Council District 14 Candidate Meet & Greet” Thursday, February 8th at 7:00 PM at The Center for The Arts, Eagle Rock, 2225 Colorado Boulevard in Eagle Rock.
Council District 14 Candidates who have confirmed their attendance are: Jose Huizar; Juan Jimenez, and Alvin Parra.
A donation of $2 is suggested to help to defray the costs related to the use of the Center for The Arts, Eagle Rock, for this event.
There is no way Alvin or Juan have a chance in hell against Jose. Jose has had a lot to learn and he's finally getting into the community. Those other losers are a complete waste of anyone's time.

2:54pm.
Sorry. To be honest, I had a list of things to talk about as usual...But I must say...I WAS a little overwhelmed ("freclempt) over the warm response I got from everyone in Van Nuys today...radio is talking about me...interviews from cape cod...a local newspaper wants to do a feature story on me...It was just a little bit like Dorthy on Wizard of Oz, when she wakes up after her nightmare and appriciated all the people in her life, so much more.
So after 10 months of hard hitting public comments...I took that little turn, at I was speaking from the podium. Alot of what I say comes off like grandstanding and bragging and boasting. But from my point of view...it's more of a "poor-man's under dogg complex that causes me to "stick up for myself." I see the image that is portrayed from the podium on TV 35, and it's only one side of ZD. I was watching the playbacks on the internet, and I cringe at that guy. So I think it was O.K. for me to do that today...since I was basically saying, how enriching it can be to come down to city hall, talk to the community...maybe talk to your councilmember (i got useable material from three councilmembers today for my newspaper article i am working on...that's what's it's all about. So one comment out of ten months for ZD to talk about his experience at City Hall...but, yeah...I'm bummed I didn't get to talk about LAX settlement, Gang tax, density, and other issues i like to stick to...but oh well, i was a little ferclempt by the warm response, after sitting in chambers, all by myself for the past two months.

Go figure that billion dollars is given from federal, state grants plus tons of money from politicans to CD14 and you wouldn't know it by the looks of it. schools, neighborhoods, illegal vendors its a mess. All the non profit programs throughout the city need to be audited.

Zuma Dogg you should be proud of what you've accomplished in this city. You should be keeping a journal or something outlining all the issues and end results. Yup, it was ok to go on about yourself for getting to the point where clowncil is now talking to you. Don't let it get out of hand and don't trust them, their politicians. Have a beer and celebrate the week.

RED SPOT INSTITUTE SPECIAL REPORT
"SHOWING YOUR JOHNSON IN THE WORLD OF POLITICS"
Thanks to Captain Jack and Crew for bring attention to the "politics" of showing your "JOHNSON" in the political world. Barry Goldwater in his autobiography tells how LYndon Baines Johnson would invite members of congress over for swims at the White House. Johnson was known to swim in the buff which would cause lawmakers to hurried deals on the "GREAT WASTE OF SOCIETY" to get out of site of "LITTLE JOHNSON". In the 1970's, it was "LITTLE JIMMA" who cause a controversy with the lusting interview to PLAYBOY. Who can forget the demise of Nelson Rockefeller due to the antics of "LITTLE ROCKY". He was one politician who "CAME AND WENT AT THE SAME TIME". In the 1980's, it was the "NAGS" with Senator BABS Boxer who charged up the steps of the United States Senate to save the woman staffers from "LITTLE PACK" Bob Packwood. The 1990's will forever be remember for the presidency spotted by the adventures of "CROOKED LITTLE WILLY".
Locally, Who remembers the children that "LITTLE ROBETO" POLANCO fathered with his love soncha ?? Now with the antic of "LITTLE GAVIN" Newsome and "LITTLE BITO" Polloraigosa front and center, what is the best advise for the "ALPHA MALE POLITICO" ?? KEEP IT ZIPPED AND PRIVATE !!!
