Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Monday

City Clowncil member turned State Senator turned Assemblyman for the moment Richard Alarcon kicked off his campaign to return to his old 7th District Clowncil seat this weekend. Making this possible is Eric Garcetti's term limits extension scheme, Measure R. Attempting to hold back the Alarcon juggernaut is former Richard Riordan aide and housing expert Monica Rodriguez and businessman Oscar Mendoza. Stay tuned to the Sister City for upcoming news on the 7th District race.

Councilman Jose Huizar was keeping the bloggers busy this weekend and now he offers his vision for the future of Downtown LA and the folks at Martini Republic are sure they heard it somewhere else before.

Both Steve Lopez at the LA Times and LAist are having a minor fit about the City of Los Angeles' transportation guru - Jamie de la Vega - driving a Hummer as his personal vehicle. The great thing about America is you can drive any car you can afford. Its probably one of the reasons people are thronging to come here from all over the world. These immigrants will find that once they get here, not only will liberals be telling them what to drive, what to eat, where to shop, where to live what to watch and listen to on TV and radio, what bloggers can do and who knows what else. This old, dead Republican mayor says its de la Vega's right to drive whatever the hell damn car he wants.

Though the LAUSD has managed to so far keep Mayor Villaraigosa's mitts off the school district they want to put theirs on even more bond money. The LAUSD already has figured out a scheme to incur some debt without voter approval; they don't need any more of our money pushing the public into further debt.

What do old, Republican white guys do when they leave public office? If they don't go to jail, sometimes they wind up with cushy jobs at companies that are somehow looking for the government to make them rich. And to do that you need someone with government connections. Such is the case of former Secretary of State Bill Jones who is pushing an ethanol fuel scheme for California. By the way, using ethanol as a fuel to power vehicles may sound good in theory but the science behind proves its a total bust.

Here we go again. Having apparently gotten over her parking issues, Councilwoman Janice Hahn wants $50 million for yet another anti-gang program. The best anti-gang program is to hold parents accountable for their children's actions. Lets hope the Clowncil passes on this lunacy.

According to Google analytics, a lot of (LA)Observing of the Sister City is happening these days. After Google, Yahoo and Blogger itself, the WWG's own little blog is one of the top referrers to Mayor Sam. That means the blog that sends us the most traffic is LA Observed. We have to say thank you to Mr. Roderick himself. The next top two blogs that refer to us are interestingly CurbedLA and Central City East (Don Garza). A hoody hoo to them as well! In the meantime, Martini Republic is having it's usual fun (LA)Observing the WWG's fundraising drive.

Last week Los Angeles City Nerd was checking out numbers on downtown helipads. Now he's showing the evolution of the city's 311 information line logo as well as the 311 logos from other US cities.

And finally, Here in Van Nuys has an interesting piece about the San Fernando Valley Radio Control Flyers who have been flying model planes at a miniature "airport" at the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Center in Van Nuys for over half a century. I doubt very few Valley residents know of this facility tucked behind some wildlife preserves just west of the 405. I have visited a few times just as an observer - there is a certain zen to watching these serious hobbyists' fly their scaled down, realistic looking aircraft.

Councilmember Huizar responds to ZUMA DOGG instead of the newspaper that reported the story???? How small and cowardly is that?

If the story was inaccurate, Mr. Huizar's office could have stopped it in its tracks had they bothered to respond our interview request.

For the record, I have no personal agenda against Mr. Huizar. We have written numerous critical articles about Alvin Parra as well in the past. (Candidate Jimenez is so stunningly unfit we dont waste our energy.) I'm simply concerned that Mr. Huizar gives short shrift to his own community paper. We have been serving Northeast LA since 1999, and I am also a former reporter at the LA Downtown News.

Mr. Huizar, you are only as smart as the people doing your talking for you. And at the moment, well.......

The AS Journal is the biggest joke "news" paper on the Eastside. Even worse than Alvin Parra's own garbage monthly in El Sireno.

The Arroyo paper has been shut down three times already once for more than a year, and was bought out another time by none other than the very same JOHN EDWARDS who ran Pacheco's two worst campaigns ever. Then it was called the Northeast Reporter or some stupid thing, and operated mostly during Pacheco's messed up campaign against Villaraigosa as a Nick P. mouthpiece. Then there was also the time that "edditor" Riviera worked as Pacheco's flack press mouthpiece. Don't believe? Check Pacheco's campaign funding sheets from his last several attempts, the paychecks are listed there.

The paper has been resurrected twice, now publishes maybe 3 or 4 times a year (if that), and then pretty much survives only on ads from public funds, whenever there's a city sponsored event that taxpayers pay for because no real businesses would waste time on something that can't get on the street until the day before or sometimes after the events being advertised.

Plus Riviera has attempted to run for, and bowed out of the CD1 council race nearly as many times as Alvin Parra has struck out or been stepped over in 14.

Looooo-sers all.

January 22, 2007 12:17 AM

Sounds like most of that is public record. Didn't the AS Journal get started with thousands of dollars of city graft funding from defrocked, coke-snorting former councilmember Mike Hernandez, who justified the payoff by telling people there were no newspapers in teh district when there were at least three struggling ones already there?

not once in that ethanol article did the author mention the radioactive waste produced from all of his nuclear plants solving world energy problems.
where do we dump the radioactive waste that lasts 10,000 years?
oh yeah, the arizona desert.
anyone remember the ship loaded with waste, that just cruised the world because noboby wanted to have it dock in their port?
we'd be shocked to know the crap they dump at sea. industrial waste. poisons. chemicals.
nuclear energy is not the answer.

I wouldn't slam anyone for running a losing campaign for Pacheco.

It is impossible to win with a candidate who, when elected, treated his constituents like they didn't exist and members of the public like servants.

I had issues before him when he was Councilman that were legitimate, meritorious issues and he treated me, as well as all others, as supplicants.

All that I can say good about NIck Pacheco is that he is an equal opportunity abuser. He should never be allowed to hold any office where he can affect people's lives again.

Clearly, the electorate agrees with me.

They can't stand the mayor.

I want to change the topic quick before the CD14 cut & paste crew come in and takeover.

How do the council members think their constituents will react if they place a tax ballot measure for $50 mil to give to gang programs when they don't know how the money is being spent? They need to audit the gang programs, set guidelines, find out who and how money is distributed then we'll talk.

Wouldn't it be nice to re-arrange our country so we wouldn't have to give a damn who controls mid-east oil? Yes, it would.

Life is risk. Every path involves risk. You just chose which risks you're willing to take, and which you aren't. I'm not willing to risk any more U.S. lives or money on the fate of the middle east. I am SO tired of those people.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen (rubs eyes and yawns):

That was quite an interesting game yesterday between two worthy opponents, wasn't it? Kept you on the edge of your seat as things down on the field changed moment by moment, with lots of score tie-ing, it did. And then there was that other game between the Patriots and the Colts, which was in some respects more believable than the game between Don Jose and Al-vin, savvy?

But let's talk about something else, shall we? And that something else was the tax that I alluded to on another thread a few days ago. I was musing about what fancy-schmancy name this new tax would have, and that it ultimately would boil down to a personal income tax for City residents.

(gets out of bed and heads into head to take shower)
You know, I do my best thinking in the shower, so bare with me for a moment, will you?

(Takes quick shower and emerges with clothes on)
There, I feel like a new man and dressed in threads from Saville Row, I can now face the day at City Hall. (Grabs cup of tea and scone while heading out door) Sots, how much personal income do you think YOU would be happy giving away in the form of a personal income tax? A little? A lot? Anyone who makes over $40,000 should have to pay 28% of it to the City in the form of personal income tax. Just how much of a vested interest do YOU want to have in the way favours are passed out to those who need favouring? After all, this is YOUR money that is being spent willy-nilly. It comes directly out of your purse, instead of funneled through one of the various agencies monies get funneled through.

Yes, I think a personal income tax would be a wonderful thing indeed as it would force those highly-paid dunces on the Clowncil to part with their one monies, savvy? I would be willing to wager that either monies were better spent or there would be motions before the Clowncil lowering their salaries so quick you wouldn't have time to say "Bob's yer Uncle".

(Arrives at City Hall)
Look alive sots, for sometime this morning a well dressed pirate will be within your midst. Just make sure he takes nothing with him when he leaves, savvy?

http://www.laweekly.com/general/features/broken-bridges/15210/

Add to that they tried another sneaky ploy by not sending or letting NC's know it was coming. Instead they told citywatchla.com to tell the NC's on Friday. Are we beginning to see a pattern here? But all you people who whine get up off your asses and send e-mails or show up to city council and speak out. The ONLY time CMs sandbag another one of their 15 like that over something on his OWN home turf is when he ASKS them to sandbag him, so he can save face, for the next race. ("Make it look good, colleagues, and I'll do the same for you next month).

Instead of attacking the problems where they are the worst, Jose comes to Eagle Rock to talk to the constituents who always vote and who will donate to his campaign. Plus, they know Alvin for the low-oife he is. It's a waste of time to discuss crime where it's happening. Because if those constituents cared they would make sure their kids were not involved in gangs and would be policing their own neighborhoods like they do in other parts of CD14. It's interesting to me that funds are being used to stop gang activity, but you can't stop gang activity until you make parents and legal guardians responsible for those under their supervision...Think about it-if your child is playing ball outside your house on the lawn with neighbor children, and your child hits the ball and breaks your neighbors front window-you are financially responsible to repair it. Why are we letting these parents and legal guardians off the hook when their minor children belong to gangs and rob, steal, intimidate, deface other person's property and ultimately murder someone? Obviously you would have to be an idiot not to know your child is involved in gang membership and activity. There are particular signs...we all know them. All this money being thrown down the drain on trying to stop gang membership, giving our youth options so they won't join is crap. It's the parents who should be doing this, and if they can't they need to contact the police and get assistance for the monster child they have bred. The dollars would be better spent on a boot camp ordered by the juvenile courts to assist the parents and families. Those parents who want to close their eyes and are raising a criminal and possible murderer should be prosecuted for the crimes of their children. Try that, after a few prosecutions of these parents and will we see a major decrease of gang membership. And the ones left in gangs will fizzle out abruptly. It won't be so cool when your family is deported because criminals cannot become citizens and loose their green cards. It won't be great for a family to see their parent in jail serving "their child's time" in jail. But, it will immediately stop gang membership. Parents won't like it...
So let's stop being politically correct and solve the problem. Our lives and those we love depend on it...
