CJ's Election Picks
Last week I intended to do an extensive endorsement list, only to be thwarted by the Gremlins at Time Warner Cable. So alas, you get the abbreviated version of CJ's election picks 2006.
GOVERNOR - Phil Angelides - This was a tough one because I like the current Arnold. He is the same Arnold that ran last time. My problem is that I remember the Arnold that became a partisan the instant he was elected and put the State through a divisive special election. I have no reason to believe Arnold won't try that again once he no longer "needs" to be a "moderate."
LT GOVERNOR - John Garamendi - Frankly, Tom Mclintock scares the crap out of me. He sits 5 steps to the right of Atilla the Hun and truly is way too radical for California. Garamendi comes across as an intelligent centrist, which is more my style.
US REPRESENTATIVE, District 24 - Jill Martinez - I can't support a guy who drops out of a race for "health reasons" then makes a miraculous recovery when he finds out Audra or Tony Strickland couldn't replace him on the ballot.
US REPRESENTATIVE, District 28 - Byron DeLear - He may be a long shot, but the best man for the job.
STATE SENATOR, District 20 - Alex Padilla
STATE ASSEMBLY MEMBER, District 37 - Audra Strickland
STATE ASSEMBLY MEMBER, District 38 - Cameron Smyth
STATE ASSEMBLY MEMBER, District 39 - Richard Alarcon
PROPOSITION "H" - NO
PROPOSITION "R" - NO

YOUR “NO” VOTE COUNTS
If for no other reason, you must go to the polls to VOTE “NO” on Proposition R.
For every “NO” vote on Proposition R, a “YES” vote is cancelled out. Who’s vote do you want to cancel?
Here is a list of a few of the top contributors to the “YES” on Proposition R campaign and their funding to date. So much for “reducing the power and influence of lobbyists and special interest.”
LA Arena Land Company $75,000
Ron Burkle, Investor $50,000
Morongo Band of Mission Indians $25,000
AEG and Affiliates $25,000
Casden Properties $25,000
Home Depot $25,000
Airport Management Services $15,000
UFCW Local 770 $10,000
St Andrews, Santa Monica $10,000
O’Melveny & Myers $7,500
Proposition R needs only a simple majority of the vote to pass. That means 50% plus 1. Every “NO” vote subtracts from that simple majority–every non-vote adds to it.
Send your councilmember a message on Tuesday, November 7th:
Tell them that you do not appreciate their deceitful tactics and will not reward them with 4 more years. Send a message to the LA Area Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters who were complicit in this deception.
They have subverted the democratic process by ignoring the recommendation of the City Attorney that the proposition is misleading and unconstitutional (violating the single issue law for ballot measures).
And they have silenced the independent voice of the Ethics Commission that was formed in 1993 by the voters to prevent this type of ethics violation by our elected officials.
Shame on you Los Angeles City Council! Shame on you League of Women Voters! Shame on you Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce!

If McClintock scares you how can you endorse Cameron Smyth the clone of Tom ? Cameron is to the right of Tom. Vote Libertarian if you can't vote Democratic or for the fascist.

Funny how communist Democrats like to label Republicans as facists. The Republicans want you to have your freedom while the Democrats want you to be dependent upon the government for your health care, child care, housing and so on...

I just drove by Staples Center and noticed that AEG has a "yes on R" ad on the big-screen billboard thing. It says "Yes on R. Keep City Council honest." Ha!

I also agree with you except for Smyth. He is a McClintock clone. And why did you avoid Jerry Brown, the obviously right man for the job.
