Open Thread for Friday
Backed by a squad of LAPD cadets, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed a $6.7 billion city budget Wednesday that adds an escalating trash-pickup fee for homeowners to pay for 1,000 additional officers.
Despite boosting the monthly fee more than 50 percent - from $11 to $18 this year and as high as $28 in four years - the controversial move has drawn little objection since Villaraigosa first proposed it nearly two months ago.

Hey Joe Dunn: Where is Houston, again?
Joe Dunn is running for State Controller, billing himself as the man who brought down Enron. That's a stupid enough claim on its face, but Dunn doesn't even seem to know where Houston is. You would think that if he personally brought down Enron, he would know where the city of Houston is.
What am I talking about? Check out his main campaign commercial, which has him jetting around, Indiana Jones style, in his quest against Ken Lay. Here's a link to the video:

Click on "Video Spot -- 8 MB" to download the video, and watch for the map that appears 9 seconds into the commercial. Joe's TV staff located the city of Houston about 150 miles too far east, in roughly the location of Baton Rouge.
A pretty embarassing mistake!

That whole "man who stopped Enron" thing is so "I'm-Al-Gore-and-I-invented-the-internet." Politicians really don't help their credibility with claims like that, as I told Thomas Edison when the two of us jointly invented the light bulb.

Bite me-
Let the ill-legals pay for the extra police. As a property owner I am damn sick of educating them and tired of waiting in hospital emergency rooms when my mother has a chest pain, and these fools are there for a cold. Send these criminals back to when they came.
