City of Hooters?
We mentioned in today's Hot Sheet that allegedly the LA Department of Animal Services was doing some sort of fundraiser with Hooters. I have no problem with Hooters, but is the right venue for a city event? Not sure. Lets get Gloria Allred on the phone, hee hee. What's next? LA's Best Silent Auction at Chippendale's? Better call Rocky Delgadillo - we might wind up with something at a strip club soon!

The event is at not at Hooters. It's at the Kodak theater. The Department is not part of the event. They are just receiving the proceeds from the event.
Hooters does charity fund raisers for many animal shelters and animal rescue organizations. They donate to many other charities as well that benefit children, the elderly and infirmed.
I'm glad Hooters is helping the City's animals. I'm glad the Department is open to this type of help.
Hooray for Hooters! If the City will take campaign donations from sleazy developers, why not from a restaurant chain?
Antonio took campaign donations from Playboy. So did Galanter, Rosendahl, Weiss, Feuer, Wachs, Hayden and Woo. Playboy is nudity, Hooters is fully clothed women in a restaurant chain. What's the problem?

Hooters + Animal Services = a PR disaster. The humane community is 99% female and this unholy alliance is counter-productive.
Animal Services was discretely circumspect during an event at the Playboy Mansion many years ago. A few decades ago, Tom Bradley almost fell scrambling to avoid being photographed next to soft-core actress/headline huntress Edy Williams at an animal shelter event.

Mayor Dan had a photo of a cucumber with real nude womens breasts and a gstring on his site yesterday. He had full nudity on his site and he complains about bikinis? What a hypocrit.
Guss will probably try to take credit for the big hoolabaloo over this flyer. It was the commissioners who were behind it. The Mayors office throws all of Guss' emails in the trash. They didn't even read his.

With all the sexual harrassements suits the city has had to pay because of men behaving badly this sends the wrong message. I'm sure all the "this is ok, what's wrong with it" posts are guys. Women scantily clad showing as much of their breats and butts as they can just to get men to buy drinks at an establishment is an embarrassement and sets women back 100 years. Men are dogs and have an immature attitude on these type of issues. I wonder how many would want their sisters being heckled and harrassed by a bunch of sleazy drunk guys? I wouldn't be surprised if it was Antonio's idea cause this is right up his alley.

Of course in the exclusive "animal activist" world of Los Angeles politics, there are quite a few women who think they've got better assets than they do and they don't mind showing them off on their websites by putting as many pictures of themselves they can find up there or entering themselves in online contests and then going back and voting for themselves over and over again. Then there is the crazy loon that just got out of prison who is an old character actor trying to pass herself off as a former child "star". She's not capitalizing on that?
Then there's the nutty Dan Guss, who loves to post his own picture and I've yet to figure out why. I have to assume this guy thinks pretty highly of himself too.
The best part? They all hate each other even though they're supposed to be all about the "cause", which should be animals. Instead, they call each other names, fight incessantly with the Mayor's staff, try like hell to get the only person in the Mayor's office who cares about animals fired, threaten, start stupid blogs, find has-been reporters of off beat newspapers to help them with their hate mission, bash Ed Boks for no reason, start rumors about each other to go along with their simultaneous competitive blogs and THEN - these same so called animal lovers complain loudly to the press that the City is embarrassing them with a Hooters Fundraiser. If they loved animals so much, wouldn't they be grateful for any restaurant who did a fundraiser? Or any other person who was working toward the same goal of their shared cause?

The Animal Services Department is not sponsoring an event at Hooters. It is the designated charitable beneficiary of a swimsuit contest that will take place there in July. But the City department has nothing to do with organizing or staging the event. The reaction of Guss and some other prudish Boks critics just shows either that the "new Victorian" era is alive and well or these hypocrites are even more shameless than ever.
Guss is so eager to beat up on Boks that he'll say anything to make him look bad. Unfortunately anybody who unwittingly plays along with his dirty game gets covered in the same mud. We'll turn the spigot and hose Mayor Sam down at the appropriate moment...

hey I just wanted to chime in here.... first off we were planning a bikini contest and thought... "hey lets give the money to charity." Puppies and Kitties sounded like a reasonable enough beneficiary and LA Animal Services was contacted. We just wanted to help out... we didn't realize it would create such a problem. We could understand more if the problem everyone was having was that its a bikini contest... but the problem evidently is where we work.
I think its ridiculous. The bikini contest will go on and the money will now go to the Amanda Foundation.(a non profit organization that doesn't want to look down its nose at us like City Controller Laura Chick)
We do fundraisers constantly and its not fair to act like our money is not good enough.
Im the kind of girl who will put money in a boot to help MDA every time I walk by a boot drive. I cant pass a bell ringer without emptying my pockets of change. Evidently because I wear orange shorts and a white tank (more than some people allow there little girls to walk around in) my moneys not wanted.

The Mayor should have stood behind the Department over the Hooters event. They should have swapped out the bikini pic for the Hooters girl in shorts and the flier would have been fine. These are desperate times. Thousands of animals are killed in the shelters every year because of lack of spay/neuter. The Department desperately needs money for spay/neuter. Gary Michelson of the Found Animals Foundation was going to give the City some of his $1.3B for spay/neuter but Dave Loftus the con man who runs the Foundation will only approve of programs which financially benefit himself personally. No money for spay/neuter but money for microchips and kiosks? Micrchips and kiosks don't save lives, spay/neuter does.
Any time anything positive is said about the Department, the nuts think it's the mary person. If Laura Chick were to say something positive tomorrow, they would tell everyone that it's just Mary disguised like Chick.
This really is a Hooters Girl and I really do work to the Hollywood location. And we really are enraged that this whole fuss is started by some guy, Daniel Guss, who just wants to get Ed Boks fired.
