What the fuck is Christine Chavez doing on the DONE list?! Is this the way that our Mayor is going to get back on the good side of people that he opposes, by putting them on important commission appointments?! I guess if any of us run on the name of a famous relative, we can get an appointment to a seat. If that's the case, he should've appointed James Hahn too.

All the pea-brained wannabe's on the list who are afraid to run for a REAL office, and you attack Chavez, who actually had the guts to step into the ring for reals.

Grow some huevos of your own, before you bash.

Antonio's picks saved this being the most lopsided, male-dominated city commission since 70s.

Very political picks for the mayor. He's already getting heat for them. AT least I can say I like the fact that the President's Joint Commission for LAUSD VOTED last week AGAINST mayoral takeover and instead wants the people to vote on it. They get a prize!!!!!

It's intriguing that the Mayor's choices are all so housing-focused. This belies a perception on his staff's part that NC participants are all NIMBYs, and this will somehow counter that. Except that the commission isn't reviewing the internal decision-making process of NCs, or any particular NC's policy perspective, so it's probably a complete miss.

The Council and NC choices are by and large pretty solid.

1:05 am,

It's not about people being afraid to run for a "REAL" office, it's about getting people on the commission who have played a role within the neighborhood council system who can provide views and perspective that will be helpful to its growth. It should not be a place to put somebody whose interactions with neighborhood councils is limited to her failed assembly race.

Christine is somebody who lives outside the City (lives in the unincorporated area of LA County because she got hooked up with a house to establish residency for her race), and whose base of operations for her work place is also outside the City limits (it's East of Atlantic Blvd on Beverly - way outside the city limits).

The people on the 912 Commission need to be people who have an invested interest in making sure that the changes that take place within DONE ultimately will be beneficial to the way that the Department, the City, and the Neighborhood Councils work side by side to empower area residents to take ownership of their streets and of their communities.

Maybe Christine wants to organize the South LA Farmers and have them join the neighborhood council in the South LA area. Who knows?! Well, maybe Antonio does...

It's obvious why the Mayor appointed Christine to the 912 Commission: because he needed to send an olive branch to the UFW.

After having all that horrible press early in the year, being criticized for their lack of organizing farmers, bringing out the web the Chavez Family has created to prosper from the various UFW operations, and having Cesar Chavez (oops, I mean Christine, but who would have ever known it was her from the way she ran her campaign) lose by 19 points, UFW needs something to bring them into some positive light.

This will allow the Mayor to use the UFW flag for those nice mailers of his come time for his race for Governor in 2010. Remember, the Mayor plays politics like he would a good game a chess: every move is done while thinking 5 moves ahead.

Hopefully this 9/12 will really address the issues of the DONE and their inability to put some teeth into their decision. Perhaps this commission with all the "political" appointments may do so good and do not go off track siding with the "white Causcus" lead by the Shaffer/Siegel show being pupeteer by the one and only Greg Nelson and former Commissioner Christopher... we'll see what kind of damage they will do...

Boy you can always count on someone from the Mayor Sam crowd to say something racist. This is the only place in LA where there is an all-out race war happening -- well, here and the movie Crash. Give me a break.

And if you think any of these people appointed to the commission are puppets, you REALLY don't know much about any of them...

Sure just like the mayor's other commission appointments like Ramona Ripston of ACLU, John Mack police commission, Valerie on the airport commission who was suing the city and many more. Please..we all know these were all political payback appointments. They don't care about the neighborhoods, they care about how will this get me something bigger.
