I've been busy wondering which of the candidates in AD 45 was ticketed for driving with a suspended license (which is to say without a licence) and who has lived for years in San Jose, on paper anyway? Maybe someone can help refresh my memory.

Sam, you fuck, you could have given someone else the mantle. All wacko talks about is illegal immigration. Meanwhile, we're days away from an important primary, and there are all kinds of rumblings going on in the 4th floor, yet this idiot reports none of it.

SAVE US!!!!!

4:49-- I agree. when did Mayor Sam go from being the place to get juicy City Hall and election-related gossip to being a right-wing blog that nobody cares about?

Now is that nice? Mayor Sam asks me to cover while he's unavailable, and you're bent out of shape because I'm not privvy to events on the fourth floor? Remind me never to pet-sit for you!

Come now Joseph. Here's some food for thought for ya...

I would like you to answer this question: What is the purpose of debates, forums, and blogs particularly in regard to AD45?

a. Air others' dirty and albeit correctable laundry.

b. Run out the back door when no one's looking and you've suddenly remembered you have no speaking skills, and no platform just a name.

c. Fail to appear at forums unless you are the only one to be interviewed and can exert complete control of the event.

d. Appear interested and then cancel (one hour before) when you know your most formidable opponent will be there.

If you answered none of the above, these are all things Christine Chavez does...YOU'RE RIGHT!!!!!

Debates, forums, and yes even blogs have their function in our great city. The candidates can show that they are truly intent on taking action on some of their slogans, catch phrases, and platform ideals.

Candidates don't pay good money to smart, politically savvy consultants in order to dodge the competition. They pay so that they can show their stuff at such debates and forums. They set their sights on June 6 to achieve the goal of becoming a true public servant.

Richie Ross must be loving his job just now, since Christine is neglecting to even take any of his likely high-priced advice. Why give advice if no one will take you up on it?

So ponder this Joe...

Christine Chavez has a good driver's license, BUT...

1. Ditched an important debate in Echo Park.

2. Ditched the Lincoln Heights Forum

3. Skipped the forum on KPFK set up by Americans for Democratic Action, with 1 hr notice (tsk, tsk, such manners!)

4. And her greatest disappearing act of all (drum roll), appearing at El Sereno and then walking out before the start of the debate.

I also guess you may wonder if she showed at today's event for KPCC/NPR. I could tell you that she is at least consistent, because she was a no-show there too.

The rest of the candidates should be commended for stepping up to the challenge, before even attaining the seat. Where will she run when there's work to be done?

Walter, even when I guest-blogged here, I was on the side of the people who wanted me gone and Sam back. It's easy to criticize the uncommon voice, regardless of what that voice says. So don't feel bad with the criticism here---just continue to write what you know and like.

But I also agree, there are a lot of good Assembly races, and it would be great to be reading about Ms. Land, Ms. Chavez, Mr. Levey, Mr. DeLeon, Ms. Popp, Mr. Feuer, etc. All of them are exceptionally interesting people, motivated to run by a wealth of different reasons.

I applaud Christine. While Kevin and Elena are at forums talking to the same tired people, Christine is walking precincts and talking to voters. I am sure the same tired people who attend these events already know who they are voting for. Christine is going after the undecideds!!!

Absolutely! He'll be needing several new pairs of shoes by June 6 from all the walking he does.

And to you 9:31, every vote counts, even the tired ones.

Christine may want to research the amazing technological wonder called public radio. There's people, yes maybe even voters, on the other end. Wow!

Bad move on Christine Chavez part by being a no show. Its all over the communities that "she's afraid." She's showing her weakness not wanting to be confronted by other candidates. People think she's afraid the questions about how her family used the poor farmer workers and are profiting will come up. The fact that she hasn't done anything about that is not good.

Of course Christine's afraid.

Beginning with dropping her hubby's last name to give herself the advantage of using her legacy to manipulate Latino voters, all the baggage with UFW, and her lack of meaningful political experience. It all adds up to nothing.

I don't agree with her underhanded tactics of slandering other candidates. Campaigns are about proving yourself, not disproving others. She has nothing to contribute to AD45.

Christine Chavez is making an absolute mockery of the voters who believe in her and of the campaign process for AD 45. Get this...

She showed up for a debate last night in City Terrace, AFTER IT ENDED!!!!!!! She milled about telling members of the community how much she'd love to raise her children here and how she currently buys her sweet bread in the neighborhood.

She shared such shovelfuls of b.s. in her worst possible Spanish, as women next to her turned to each other saying in surprise, "I didn't know she couldn't speak Spanish!!"

Through the course of the debate, she waited for the all-clear from her husband, who sat in the audience hte whole time (as she sat in the car???)

What the hell is going on? As a voter I am livid that she thinks she can fool voters, those eager to make educated decisions, into thinking she was a willing and fair participant last night. Wake up AD 45, Christine is an illusionist and wnats to make a fool out of each and every one of us.

FYI - Christine was late to arrive in City Terrace because she was honoring her commitment to appear at a neighborhood reception at my home in Echo Park. She took the time to listen to everyone present and address their concerns even though it caused her to be late. I joined Christine's campaign after reading her booklet. After only one day as a volunteer she walked my neighborhood with me, talking to the people. This is a true grass roots campaign, reminiscent of the 60's, where the people can prevail over the political status quo. I find Christine to be a concerned, caring, down to earth person and I am proud to support her in the 45th.

Was she at your house at the time of the other 5 events she also missed?

These are community forums. In light of the fact that concerned members of the specific neighborhoods will be present, why are they less important to Christine?

Again she is clinging to a legacy as an excuse to back away from pressing community issues and important opportunities to interact with community members and show she cares. You can be a grassroots candidate and still keep up with our local issues.

I'm still not convinced and I think you idealize the past.

FYI

In regards to Christine’s schooling… she couldn’t even handle it, she’s a drop out. I guess she figured she could piggy-back off her beloved grandfather’s name and get anything she wanted…

Not so much huh…even all ass kissing cheerleading she's been doing for her "buddies" in office. I guess that what happens when some one’s an egocentric sell-out.

After seeing all of this, I'm surprised that the LA Times didn't include Christine as part of their mini-series uncovering the scandals and opportunistic moves made within UFW. I can already hear her question responses:

Q: What do you think about affordable housing?

A: I believe, as my Grandpa Cesar E. Chavez, Founder of the United Farm workers, did that blah blah blah.

***********

Q: What do you think needs to be done regarding our need for open park space?

A: I believe, as my Grandpa Cesar E. Chavez, Founder of the United Farm workers, did that blah blah blah.

On top of that, isn't she married to Oscar Gonzalez?! Whatever judgment call she made in making that choice really demonstrate her lack of ability to make decisions that make any sense.

If Christine had any qualifications at all she wouldn't have to use her grandfather's legacy. The Chavez family are an embarrassement to all latinos. I want to know what she's done to help her people. Anything to make a buck including selling your soul.

ok gente...
1st time here- not into electoral poltiics or schmoozers who talk the talk but don't walk the walk-- so I wanted to share some thoughts & points....

1st... she did not choose to be born into this family

2nd... she has done her own work--isn't riding on her abuelo's legacy but in fact is making her own.....

a) has organized winning Get out the Vote campaigns for most of the Latino politicians in office around LA

b) was arrested at age 4 for being the picket captain in front of a supermarket in Detroit--yes I said Picket Captain LOL!! she can't help it if its in her blood.

c) organized the 5cents for Fairness Strawberry campaign here in Los Angeles
as well as the helped to take 52 buses of LA supporters to Watsonville for the largest march for UFW since Chavez's passing.

d) is in coalition with our African American community to stop the violence amongst our people-especially with the youth.

e) is a proponent of Marriage Equality for all

f) is for worker, immigrant, LGTBQ and women's rights
(seeing as 2/3 of the women are gonna' be termed out and then we will have practically all men deciding our future) ABAJO WITH THE OLD BOYS NETWORK (whether its the usual patriarchal white men or the Latino/"hermanos"

g) she is not her grandfather... historical debates aside- she is pro-immigrant rights- has been side by side almost all the labor campaigns and strikes and all the marchas for our people--- including organizing some of her own (Cesar Chavez March- L.A.) <-- with over 1, 000 students every year!!!

3) she ain't ducking gente--she is talking to them- but not at the usual forums- organized by opposition supporters or with the same set of 20 people at each. She is at the precinct walking or taking issues head on - like representing at the South Central Farm-- which other elected would even dare to do that?
---
I think I'll take a break there and just mention- that we are all quick to judge and critique- but what about act and reflect on our own.

I ask that you do- and realize who her opposition is.......
She is, aside from her name, and her long standing activist work- --the underdog- up against big money and a democratic "ol' boys" network.

that said.... peace to you and SI SE PUEDE!
