Leaky faucets

The Daily News follows up its DWP overtime expose with an editorial. It paints a bleak picture, even going so far as to suggest that infrastructure is breaking down because of the OT gravy train. It doesn't name names.

Whatever the problems with the DWP might be, it appears we have a lot of W on hand---AP reports that the Sierra Nevada snowpack is higher than last year, and the water supply is in excellent shape.
"If it stopped right now, we would have enough water in storage for two years of drought," said Mike Pechner, staff meteorologist for KCBS Radio. "They have already had an entire season's worth of accumulated rain and snow."

I can't stand the daily news. It is a liberal biased publication. Credibility to their entire staff is like calling OJ Simpson and Robert Blake innocent. It is no wonder that they have no major circulation. They're on par with the pasadena star news. Give me a break.

What the Daily News fails to report is the HUGE downsizing that occured during the 90s. During that time, there was barely any overtime if not none. However, because of the poor representation of the EAA during the downsizing period at DWP. More than 2000 engineers and management staff employees were cut. SO because of that downsize, overtime was needed to pick up the slack and now the Daily News attacks DWP for that? If they really want to get to the source, they need to investigate why the DWP engineers all voted unanimously to leave EAA and join IBEW and how EAA did a shitty job "protecting" their members during that time period. So in retrospect, the source of the OT lies at the hands of the crappy EAA.

Sell the DWP NOW! It is inefficient, bloated, and dirty. Its the dirtiest utility West of the Missiissippi- over 50% coal.
It does not serve the citizens. Doesnt it seem that we are working to support the DWP rather than have them serve us?
So..why not sell it off? This is NOT East germany where we have to have socialized power and water services. think of the billions we can get for all the assets. Then, privatize it, fire ALL IBEW employees.
There is no other solution. Even with an actrive well intentioned Board, they cant really get at the deep rooted problems, because its all related to IBEW, which the Board, and even the Mayor, is afraid to cross.
SELL THE DWP NOW

Ok Richard Riordan! Thank you for your penny-wise but pound foolish idea. Nice in the interim but will rob folks blind in the long run.

please explain why the city benefits from owning the DWP?
because, I can easily explain why we would be alot better off without them!
Billions in assets. Reduced city payroll. No lonterm pension costs. Cleaner power. No threat of ultimatums from greedy unions. The workers would still do fine, PGE and Edison pay well.
Who would lose? IBEW-because they dont care hpow many workers are hired or what the Cities citizens have to pay to keep the DWP running. The Union just wants more members so they can have increased power.
Please understand-I think the DWP workers may even deserve a pay increase. What Im against is that they just want to add more workers whether they are needed or not.

Again, please tell me why the City needs the DWP.

There's no need to show me how MUCH of a dumb fuck you are. Just look at what you typed. You can't even type properly. So just proves that you are a dumb ass P.O.S.. Same with your stupid assumptions that someone must be a DWP employee if they are defending the organization. *rolling eyes*

"Hey 11:33, let's meet up, I'll show how a dumb fuck I am"

The key words that you were looking for were "much of" somewhere sandwiched between "how" and "a" I assume Mr. Dumb Fuck? Yeah, let's meet up, I want a lesson on english from you. hahahaha!
