Martinez: Arellano cannot withdraw

KPCC reports that City Clerk Frank Martinez says that Christopher Arellano's name will appear on the June School Board ballot. He bases his decision on advice from the City Attorney.

UPDATE: Frank Martinez clarifies. He tells me that based on the City Attorney's findings, he will go to City Council tomorrow with a resolution proposing that the election be certified with Monica Garcia and Chris Arellano declared as winners, and that their names to be placed on the June ballot. By Charter, LAUSD election results are certified by LA City Council.

Such a sad result for the kids of LAUSD. Monica's piss poor work for Jose is elevating her to the Board....is it no wonder the District is still a shit pit?

Arellano did the noble thing, trying to pull out. But if he's trapped into keeping his name on the ballot, he should indeed run, and in earnest.

If I were his campaign, I'd run against both Antonio and AJ Duffy's UTLA as well. He's got nothing to lose at this point, he might as well tell the truth as he sees it. It could ironically make for a race based on issues rather than buckets o' slime and machine politics.

Among the things he should say:

--How ridiculous it is to spend $200,000 for a job that pays $20K a year.
--How Riordan's stacking of the school board didn't make the district a better place.
--How the UTLA must first solve its own financial troubles before it starts trying to solve the problems of the District.
--How critical athletics and maintaining a sound body are to our curriculum.

This limbo situation makes it look like the Mayor is pulling strings at City Hall to continue to beat Arellano up. It is indeed a gift to Arellano.

1:22 Firing an organizer for speaking his mind about the job the Prez is doing! That would be rich. Can you say "retribution"?

I also think he should continue to campaign if they won't let Gasca in. What chaps my hide is that Montebello Monica is going to run around town thinking she is the hot Sh-t because she "won" this campaign. IT IS NOT FAIR, She has been a long time resident of Montebello! She used to frequent the starbucks on montebello and Beverly many times. She is NOT the best candidate for this position PERIOD

The election rules in the city charter require that if one of the top two winners of a primary vote drops out, then the third place finisher takes his/her place in the runb-off. The city attorney is apparently of the opinion that the LAUSD does not operate under this requirement, since it is a separate entity from the city, and in addition, is made up of 26 other cities. The city council can do us all a favor Friday by simply declaring Monica the winner, if Arellano has indeed dropped out. Who is going to sue the city council? District 2 needs a warm body sitting on the horseshoe NOW.

RECALL...That's a good way to start. Monica has absoultely no experience, is an Antonio puppet, did nothing while aide to Jose and now she thinks she should be on the school board. Why hasn't Chick-n-shit released the figures from the LAUSD audit? Could it be it will make Jose look bad being prez for 4 yrs and all the money they spent on self serving stuff with our tax dollars???

Mayor switches on lights
Antonio urges city to do job instead of contractor
By Beth Barrett, Staff Writer
After promising to hire a private contractor to install energy-conserving lights at L.A.'s 4,300 intersections, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has flip-flopped and now wants city employees to do the work - so it will take twice as long and delay millions of dollars in energy savings.

"He is a longtime resident of the district who struggled to earn a Masters of Social Work and a Public Planning degree from USC."

By staying in the race, the only thing Arellano will win is jail time. If he insists on keeping himself in the news, our local scribes will spring back into action, with more FACTS about this pathological fibber. The couple of lies reported on thus far are just the tip of the iceberg...
