Does Rocky Love Wal-Mart?
Apparently hatred of Wal-Mart is a new litmus test for liberals, and Rocky Delagadillo may be failing in disdain towards the Bentonville, Arkansas retailer.The folks at the Jerry Brown campaign for State Attorney General have put out the following press release showing that Rocky may be, gasp, a Wal-Mart lover!
Delgadillo is now running all over the state claiming to be the brave knight who will slay the Wal-Mart dragon. Problem is he keeps fibbing about his own Wal-Mart past. Rocky claims to be a Wal-Mart opponent, but the facts show that he was a Wal-Mart booster when he worked for Republican Mayor Richard Riordan.
In June 1998, when a Wal-Mart opened in the San Fernando Valley, Deputy Mayor Delgadillo had nothing but praise saying it was “turning Van Nuys Boulevard, we hope, into a commercial corridor we think it deserves to be.” (Los Angeles Daily News, June 10, 1998)
A 1999 evaluation of Deputy Mayor Delgadillo’s business team showed that Wal-Mart was one of the large firms assisted by Delgadillo’s office. (An Evaluation of the Los Angeles Business Team, UCLA Center for Labor Research and Education)
In October 1997, Republican Mayor Richard Riordan spoke at a Wal-Mart ground breaking. It would be hard to believe that Riordan’s Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, Delgadillo was not in attendance. Rocky, did you attend? At the very least, as Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, did you stand up and tell Mayor Riordan that this was wrong direction for your city? Where are clips of you protesting the Wal-Mart ground breaking back in 1997? Maybe these photos will turn up in the next state audit.
Perhaps this is why the Delgadillo camp felt compelled to fib about Brown’s supposed attendance at a Wal-Mart opening. It’s very simple: Brown did not attend. Unless your new found opposition to Wal-Mart is nothing more than cynical grandstanding, you’ll turn over proof that you advised Mayor Riordan that the openings of new Wal-Marts were the wrong the direction for your city.

At this point, I am beginning to wonder if President Rockturd is really even a Harvard man. He's the "future of California politics" pero no habla espanol, he's the "youth candidate" with hair plugs, he's a "man of the people" who pimps his public office to the highest bidder.
He promotes Wal-Mart as an engine of economic vitality unless he's speaking to a union. He's a Democrat with Republican fundraisers. He's a lawyer who never practiced law. He's a champion of the poor unless the slumlords are cutting fat checks.

If Rocky is very unlucky and loses the primary to the Moonbeam and when Rocky leaves the job of being City Attorney, then he may end up as a greeter a Wal-Mart. "Welcome to Wal-Mart."
If the election doesn't pan out, he could be the next host of "Ask A Mexican." He does speak spanish doesn't he? Or is he more pocho?
C'mon, let this dead horse lay. Rocky bit off more than he could chew. He DOA and everyone knows it. As you all know, he was lucky to be city attorney (Villraigosa turned out the Latino vote for him by running at the same time).
And, Rocky is half-white and doesn't speak a lick of Spanish.

I think its racist to expect Latino politicians to speak Spanish. We do things in Spanish as a service to recently arrived immigrants.
The last time I looked, California is in the United States where the official language is English.

The need to speak spanish does not stem from a cultural point, but from a business point. The need to speak spanish is necessary to talk to all the wetbacks that come across the border that shop at wall mart like the rest of the SEIU wetbacks with them. He's the one who floated into Oakland on his magic carpet of hypocrisy to attack Wal-Mart despite his own tight connection to the corporation. He drew the bulls-eye on his own arse. If Team 1600 has to get all hyper and bitter when the spotlight hits their candidate's flaws, they'd better find a new sport. Whoever sent him into that trap didn't do their homework (as usual).

this just show's how incredibly stupid is the roctards infantry. the article says "representatives" and lists a big laundry list. anyone who has been around knows that is a truly meaningless line. to think roctard put his neck on the line for that!!! he deserves what he got - profound embarassment.

The only reason latinos still speak spanish when they are second and third generation is because they do NOT have to assimilate. Their immigrant experience is different from most immigrant experiences in this country where you are cut off from your mother country. In Socal, latinos have a contiguous piece of land where everyone speaks spanish. They dont have to learn english.
Im not sure if thats bad or good. It seems to bother people, and if youre like me, an anglo, it is a litle annoying that so many folks cant speak english, but...overall I dont think its such a bad thing. Though I assume it does keep some latinos from being as successful as they could be.

Rocky graduated from Harvard University and Columbia Law School.
He passed the California bar exam the first time (unlike Moonbeam) and worked as a lawyer for O'Melveny & Myers, which only hires from the top 10% of law school graduates.
His IQ is considerably higher than anyone running for Attorney General.

Well, since Brown is little more than an old fart that is quite a statement. A crusty blowhard whose "ideas" are little more than hot air that stinks. What a joke this primary is, if anything shows that Ds have been in power too long in this state it is this primary. Brown, who opposes the death penalty, is going to be charged with enforceing it - what a joke!
But since both Los Angeles and Oakland have become "safe" thanks to these two Ds - it makes perfect sense to pick between the two of them for top cop. Let the race to the bottom continue! Gangs love the Ds and their caring ways...
