Open Thread for Wednesday

On this day in 1732, George Washington is born in Westmoreland County, Virginia, the second son from the second marriage of a colonial plantation owner. An initially loyal British subject, Washington eventually led the Continental Army in the American Revolution and became known as the “father” of the United States.

I wonder if the Brits considered G. Washington to be their "Benedict Arnold"?

WTF?????? Come on now Martin. Talk about visions of grandeur! He actually said this shit. Check it out ya'll.

The city of Los Angeles is strong and has a great future under a man who has the potential to become one of the greatest presidents in American history," Ludlow said. "I love him dearly and Mayor Villaraigosa will be just fine."

He can barely be a good mayor. Aspirations, aspirations.

MONICA GARCIA

A friend forwarded an email blast from the Monica Garcia campaign that I just had to comment on.

In the email, Monica declares that she is the labor candidate [no, not the "in labor" candidate despite her rather large stomach]. But, the Union that is endorsing her is none other than SEIU Local 99....yes, that Local 99 that illegally funded Ludlow's campaign and for which Martin will now be making license plates.

Too funny.

I agree with the Bush poster. I believe we are living in hell with Bush in charge of our country and Villaraigosa and Riordan & Co. in charge of LA.

I'd move, but I'm no Alec Baldwin. The day I SAY I'm moving is the day you'll all be invited to my going away party.

I'm almost there.

I agree with the poster who is shocked and appalled that Martin is in the middle of his own crises and talking about Villaraigosa becoming president. He should at least let the loser try to get through his first term. If Riordan doesn't keel over, maybe Villaraigosa will limp through with those middle of the road, centrist ideas Riordan is pushing him to adopt. If Riordan does get out of the picture, maybe Villaraigosa can become the man we elected who is somehow lost now.

Andrew, Whatchu doin' in the hood cuzz? Must've missed the entrance to the 10 frwy. at Adams and kept going south huh? Or did you miss Parks' office on Crenshaw and keep going by accident? Maybe you were visiting Tavis Smiley's foundation offices and had to park across the street. Hope the Black Israelites didn't scare you too much in the park.
Well, thanks for discovering an area that is older than many other parts of L.A. Actually, it's a known fact that Leimert Park and the area surrounding it was once a large Japanese-American community until WWII when they were moved, or forced to internment camps. It is now largely African-American and has some great restaurants and shops in the area. Home prices are ridiculously high but the swank black folk gotta claim something right?

Yes, but Monica will take a position on whether In-n-Out burgers are better than Burger King.

I note that someone has previously mentioned that she was endorsed by the Hamburglar. Not true. Jenny Craig....again not true.
