Or just expand them. Think about it. They are each accountable to a million people! And the retarded voters didn't want to expand the Board and called it an extra layer of bureaucracy.

You may be the retarded one. They each respresent 2 million residents (10 million county population divided by 5).

Garthwaite was an unmitigated disaster that can be blamed squarely on Zev Yaroslavsky -- his biggest apologist.
Garthwaite tried to destroy King/Drew and the rest of the County's health system. He is an idiot.

Oh you are right. I must be retarded for misquoting the number of residents in the County. But thanks for pointing out the error.
I always thought there were about 8 million. Probably because I'm retarded.
But since you have so brilliantly memorized the L.A. County population of about 10,179,716, divided by 5 that would be about 2,035,943.
My bad.

Insightful remark.
I may be in the minority, but it is hard for me to believe that an individual who revolutionized delivery of care for the largest medical system in the world before he moved to LA could be an idiot.
Not sure how battling to change an entrenched hospital culture (see LA times pulitzer prize winning article) by changing leadership, trying to attract nurses, bringing personnel actions & accountability to the staff, and focusing services on those most critical is "destroying" a hospital.
Perhaps, just maybe - there are a couple real problems that are ignored as the county chews up & spits out another talented, proven leader. Could they possibly be:
*Millions of uninsured patients who never obtain preventative care & who must be funded by the county
*Hospitals being managed by 5 individuals with absolutely no medical knowledge/background. Note that Dr. Garthwaite's repeated requests for a Hospital Authority were ignored.
*Inability to lure top nurses & docs to a hospital that receives horrific press, including top leadership bashing, and limited county pay (see item 1).
