Updating Your Resume

MoneyFlush out of cash from the holidays? Are your bills stacking up? Here's a guaranteed solution to roll in the dough!

Become a lawyer in LA

Today's press cycle brings us two political money-laundering schemes and multiple LAX lawsuits being filed (Here and Here).

Not spicy enough for you?

Become an auditor

Today's press cycle also brings us stories about Laura Chick pushing for additional audits (Here and Here ) regarding the ever growing "pay to play" scandal enveloping Hahn's administration.

Who says this Mayor hasn't brought jobs to LA. With this kind of job growth, there are plenty of people needing representation.

Two quick points:

A. The attorney client privilege is held by the Client and Rocky as the Attorney can not waive it for the police officers or city employees who have outside legal counsel protecting their interest, and by extension the City's.

B. Politicians, lik Chick, can't go around claiming they know how another politician could do their job better. If there is overbilling (like double billing or fraudulent billing) then she can nail them, but too look into a file and try to determine whether a legal strategy was cost effective will undermine the attorney client privilege, a cornerstone of our judicial system.

As usual, the only ones to win at litigation are the lawyers. They always get paid!!

With regards to the lawsuits on the L.A.X. Master Plan, here again was another situation where litigation could have been avoided entirely. Knowing that the County of L.A. and several other cities and community groups such as A.R.S.A.C. were opposed to the Riordan L.A.X. alternatives A, B and C and had threatened to sue, instead of involving these groups in the creation of Hahn's Alt. D, these groups were locked out of the process. City officials (wasn't it Ted Stein who was driving this process?) made the decision, AGAINST the advice of their airport planning consultants, to NOT include these groups and the airlines at the table. Therefore, it is no surprise that there are three lawsuits against Hahn's Alt. D.

In push to rush the L.A.X. Master Plan to approval, the Hahn Administration has actually stretched out the process and has made many mistakes. These mistakes will prove fatal in the courtroom and Hahn may be forced to start over on the L.A.X. Master Plan.

Will Hahn learn his lesson to not ignore the input of constituents and stakeholders? Perhaps not!! He only seems interested in getting support from groups (let's be explicit- unions feeding at the City treasury) who can walk precincts and make phone calls. DUMP HAHN!!

The issue should not be how much more in outside attorney's fees Rocky has paid, but how much on an overall basis this City Attorney has saved the City in comparison to the last City Attorney in payouts and trial losses when considering everything. If the controller were really looking for benefit to the City and not just for press releases, she would have used that as a determination of whether or not the office of the City Attorney is 'performing.

Also, why hasn't the controller's office been audited recently to see how efficient they have become and also to find out how much in audit expenses the City has been incurring under her administration compared to the last and for what end !!!

I agree with the earlier poster. I want to know how efficient the controllers office is under Laura Chick. I want to know how much SHE has spent in outside audits and how much they have directly saved the City. Why hasn't her office been audited for performance, since she has now been in office for a number of years, has done a lot of auditing and a lot of press conferences, etc.

The way to get things done in this City in terms of relationships between elected officials is to work together. While the news said that Chick and Delgadillo were allied before this issue, what kind of ally holds surprise press conferences a short time before a planned press conference of her allie, to usurp the good news that the other one was going to announce for the City.

Well, that is just what happened here, when Delgadillo had a noticed press conference to announce the City was going after the internet hotel providers who charged their customers the City taxes(including room and hospitality charges) and never remitted them to the City, with a loss to the City of maybe ten million dollars per year. That news conference discussing important City information and showing the thinking out of the box that our City Attorney does, was interrupted by SURPRISE questions relating to Chick's previously unkown and SURPRISE press conference just a few minutes before.

Sounds like backstabbing and press grabbing to me ? How about the rest of you ?

MEATEATER SAYS:

I dunno. Sounds like Rocky gave his staff a lunch break to all blog anonymously. Between Delgadillo fighting Chick, Hahn fighting Villaraigosa and Parks, and Weiss getting yelled at by strip-club lawyers, the rain is starting to get into everyone's head (as well as Zine's office)

C'mon you can't audit your bosses. Bernsdorf tried it at MTA, see- http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413,200~20954~2642902,00.html.
Politicians & managers don't want the truth. 'Cause that means they have to do their jobs. Then they can't spend as much time building their empires. The citizens of L.A. are so demoralized that City agencies are having to pay employees to staff polling places. The corruption in this city rivals anything the mob bosses could come up with. City employees are routinely harrassed & retaliated against. How many uncontested politicians are returning to office? Nobody wants to challenge them? Some democracy we've got here. Wake up people- recall, petition. ABH

Chick has a lot of damn nerve. She's acting if she's looking out for the city. she has her own agenda. Surprising she wld go after Rocky. Yes, I think he's done a good job. I agree someone should audit her butt. That is our tax dollars she's spending how of it I want to know. Didn't she get nailed a couple of months ago for ethic violations. Hell yes she did. She took campaign money from Fleishman Hillard. Did she pay it back? She thinks she's gaining support with all this stuff going to press. Not so. I heard she's lost a hell of a lot of support because she went about it the wrong way. She lost my vote

Interesting how Chick doesn't hesitate to go after her own supporters.....like Fleishman Hillard when she has the chance, now her ally Rocky....whose next.. her ex?

What this means is that NOONE feels safe and close to her and when her time comes to run for Mayor......look out....she will be taken out.

It is one thing to do your job....another to look for a job to do, no matter how and whom you do it to.
