Ducking Debates
These are the headlines one receives when they duck debates (and no, Moore did not duck, he wasn't invited):
LA Times - Challengers in Debate Accuse Hahn of Lack of Leadership
Daily News - Mayor Hahn Slammed in Absentia by His Rivals
The basic theme from the debate: No leadership, missing in action, pay to play, corruption investigations, special interests, lack of police, bad traffic, education problems, and ethical problems in City Hall. I know, you're all shocked.
You know what they say: If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, odds are...

"We have a mayor who is missing in action," says Antonio Villaraigosa. Hello. Isn't this the guy who was out of his council district (and the state) on at least 66 days campaigning for John Kerry. Isn't this the guy who is out of his district raising money for his own campaign? It seems to me we have a councilmember who is Missing In Action.

I am so sick and tired of hearing the bullies continuos whining about Hahn. WE have to read it in the papers everyday and then to hear it from them every time there's a debate is getting old. The voters want to hear substance about what they plan to do for the city. We're yet to hear their great plans. Negative campaigning didn't do Kerry any good and you would think Antonio, since he spent so much time out of the city for Kerry would learn.

Not only MIA but also ethically challenged. Villaraigosa breaks a vow to not run for mayor, pumps $500,000 into a campaign to support Measure A and then organizes a petition to fight the almost identical proposal simply because it is proposed by a political oponent, Hahn, and lies on television about the recall.

There are just too many debates, just like the 2001 mayoral race. There was one last night and now there is another one this Thursday by another Jewish organization? I understand that BH has nothing else to do, but don't the sitting Councilmen have events in their DISTRICT to attend? There should be three or four debates throughout the cycle and the candidates should all have to confirm well in advance.

I'm beginning to think one councilmember, Antonio Villaraigosa, wouldn't remember his way back to his council district without a Thomas Guide.

Now we have Jim Hahn promoting himself on 311. Check it out call it!!!!!!!!

Like Villaraigosa was promoting himself with ads for Measure A? Is it possible that out of that $500,000 Antonio spent on the Measure A campaign he paid his consultants a 15% agency fee and other expenses that may account for unusually low expenditures in his mayoral campaign?

Hahn is smart to do that. Anyone think differently it's because they didn't come up with it themselves.

Using our tax dollars yet again for campaign related activities. Must be nice

He did it when it first rolled out more than a year ago. Now I'm a big critic of Hahn but don't see anything wrong with the 311 message. People should hear the mayor when they call.

That has nothing to do with his campaign. If you're going to pick at something, pick something that matters, not a freakin' voice message.

Your honor..
Chief...
and Fellow Bloggers:
Okay here it is folks:
You have not seen this anywhere yet but there is some trouble brewing in Billy Jim Bratto-nahn Land. And I mean some serious "Do not politicize my job as Chief" action going on. I hear that some serious back and forth between the 3rd floor and PAB is going on for the last week. Remember the GiulianniBratton thing, it may be working in reverse here.
Handlers for the Chief are worried that any aspirations by him for greater and loftier titles, positions and agencies are being diminished by what seems to be, soon to be announced "actions" by the many different agencies combing the 3rd floor with microscopes. And the tough Law and Order man does not want to be near the S*** when it hits the fan.
Additionally, it is actually getting very uncomfortable for the sitting Chief to attend public functions with JH. That has been slowly diminished and I believe that as the clock ticks on, it will get worse.
Standby for more updates.
Sincerely,
The Fly (on the wall)

Antonio Villaraigosa has been the one missing in action--where was he in council today. Unlike most days, when he is just late, he wasn't even there at all today...

Where is Antonio? Like where is Waldo? He could be following Kerry around the Senate....

Hasn't anyone filed a Public Information with the city clerk? Don't like the sound of that previous poster and the Chief. Last thing Bratton needs is Hahn's shit coming down on him. Antonio is a joke in CD14. Sorry loverboy but everyone is saying he's using his district staff cause by the time he brings anyone else they don't know the community like they do. They don't do a damn thing but they know the players. Let's get them for using our tax dollars campaigning on city time and dollars.

I hope Fly on Wall is wrong. People in this city love Bratton. Don't want to see him get caught up in anything.

Chief Bratton needs to separate himself from this dysfunctional Mayor .... NOW.
While the Chief is attempting to be loyal to the man that appointed him as Chief. That same man has failed miserably in providing the Chief, the department, the City and most importantly the residents, the additional police officers that he committed to ALL when he bacame Mayor.
Additionally, whenever he made a feeble attempt to get a few more cops and met with any resistance.............he simply backed off, leaving the Chief, the department, the City and most importantly the residents in the lurch.
