What happens when you plan to run for an office but make a deal to drop out to let another politician take your spot and coast to victory? You get to make bank, all on the taxpayers' dime.Former Assemblywoman Cindy Montanez who dropped out of a City Council race in favor of Richard Alarcon (who had only been elected to the State Assembly a few months before) was given an appointment by former Speaker and Fellow Mirthala Banger Fabian "Knucklehead" Nunez to the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board earning $130,000 per year. Now, she's been hired as a "consultant" to the DWP at the rate of $12,500 a month.
According to DWP General Manager H. David Nahai, Montanez "will provide expert advisory services, advocacy, strategic analysis, and stakeholder development relative to California state policy and legislation" to the utility.
No wonder the citizenry is so turned off.

Cindy had the potential to be a great Latino woman leader for the valley. She had the opportunity to really shine for all those young Latinas, those same Latinas that she went on a a hunger strike for while at UCLA.
This was the great principled idealist who was going to take on the Alex & Tony Old Boy network in the valley just like Gloria Molina took on the Art & Richard old boy network in East L.A. And she started out on the right path by defeating the Alex and Tony candidate when she first won for Assembly.
But now the only example she can give is that selling out and giving up your ass does pay. So all those little Latinas out there, don't worry about getting a college degree, just brush up on your drinking and make sure you have a good selection of sexy panties.
What a sad commentary on Latino politics in the San Fernando Valley.
I'd like to know if she has a degree, let alone an MBA. MS,can you get her resume from the Clerk's office and write-up?

Cindy has proven to be a great leader despite lacking a degree... She has accomplished much more than many who have a degree... Those who chose to criticize her for this, rather than recognize her accomplishments, do so out of spite and envy that she has gotten so far, while they work hard day in and day out with their fancy degree and still are at dead end jobs... So you tell me whose doing something right... Cindy is....
Keep up the great job Cindy... I am glad you took a leave from politics; I am sure that when you return you will do so at your time and stronger than ever...

There's no way in the world you can say that her high school or GED is equivalent to a degree or an MBA. Don't be a fool. She would be a better public servant if she had that background. Isn't Cindy part of this clan now. She gave up the city council race to appease these people and she handed the assembly seat over to Fuentes - all part of the deal. What accomplishments has Cindy had besides making a drunken fool of herself at every gathering and being the town whore?

When Cindy bought into her deal with the mayor and Alarcon (and Nunez, as well, it would appear, in order to get the state appt. for $130K per year), she gave up whatever claim she might previously have had to leadership and integrity. Now, she is little more than yet another leech benefiting from her private deals with public officials....
Anyone who says Cindy is good should ask whether this HIGH SCHOOLER can handle TWO important jobs worth a QUARTER of a MEEL-YONE dollars.

John Perez only got 4,000 votes with over $800,000 spent on his behalf. That's $200 a vote!!!!
Any smart Republican or Independent can take this seat in November because of two reasons. Perez' campaign manager Gasca has never been in a tough race and the only mailer needed is the one highlighting John's proud gay status. This is a homophobic Latino district, and Big Gay John won't be able to count on his tarnished cousin to bail him out of this one. Any takers?

The scandal gets worse: besides this woman without a college degree, whose main "credential" for getting into the Eastside Latino Political Machine was a hunger strike for "latina rights," before dropping out, getting a patronage job for $150,000/year, for WORKING ONE DAY A WEEK, without having had to compete for it.
Daily News has an angry Opinion about how this is like working for the Mafia, "taken care of for life," but they don't know the worst of it, what the Times reports.
One of the comments there from Fuentes Green Party challenger tells about how he's also undermined an important enviro bill to favor developers.
David Zahniser reports in the Times tonight that she is already getting paid $130,000 to sit on the state Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board -- a job Nunez got her right after she agreed to drop out of the race against Alarcon and incompetent tool Fuentes.
David Nihai encourages her to keep her old job, since the new overpaid one is part-time, but Nick Patsouris wisely disagrees, saying that the job can't be regarded as just p/t and allowing her to do another full-time job.
This new job makes her LA's principle lobbyist and watchdog in Sacramento, so by not devoting her time or primary concern to it, we're screwed before we start.
The Nunez/Padilla/Al
So this chick is getting $150,000/ year for a one day a week gig, plus she can keep her other fulltime job on the state Unemployment Compensation Appeals Commission, that Nunez gave her for sitting out the Alarcon for Council or Fuentes for Assembly races -- while she never finished college but spent her time there doing hunger- strikes for "Latino rights."
The incestuousness of these people is literally illegal, not just a scandal. Tony Cardenas' brother took a job on a Public Works Commission that Fuentes' sister Yolanda gave up, for a job with the Mayor, and Cardenas has other family on OUR payroll.
Alarcon's dealings in the Verdugo Hills and Las Lomas developments sure would be easier with Fuentes AB212 giving developers any right to do anything they want anywhere, overriding community plans and Councilmembers, like that pesky Greig Smith who he lashed out at in a fury over Las Lomas. But he sure is "very progressive" when it comes to fleecing the "anglos" of the valley and westside to line the pockets of his illegals, like bailing them out of loans where they never read the English wording or doubling the min. wage for their illegal jobs.
Reyes is itching to use the Alarcon/Cardenas/Padilla/ Mexican-under-a-cactus wine loving Nunez/ Fuentes Eastside Mexican machine to destroy the westside, hills and valleys with his slums, while this bunch lines their pockets with kickbacks from the developers involved.
Antonio has got to come out against these crooks now, or they'll take him down with them -- what this "machine" is doing is so flagrantry self-serving in the phony name of the "poor Mexican children," that it begs for an investigation.
(But Laura Chick is too scared of them -- just going up against Cardenas on who controls the gang funding, he ripped her head off in public. She should do it for that reason, to draw them out in the open.)

Both the DN and Times/David Z har hitting pretty hard on this Montanez thing, and how it reflects the way this Mexican "machine" controls not only the Eastside but have their hands in DWP, and have conspired to push policy that's destructive to L A, like that AB212. Hope they keep digging...
This kind of corruption has gone for decades under Alatorre and others, but now that they're out of the Eastside and openly aiming to destroy the westside and valleys, their corrupt ways are no longer being ignored as "over there."
And their constituents like Reyes' Lincoln Heights people, are getting more openly fed up, too. They want their streets cleaned up and illegal vendors and gangbangers gone, not having their slums moved to the remaining nicer parts of the city.
Why is the garbage language necessary. It's disgusting and offensive. The people that use it are ignorant. Crooks are crooks regardless of their heritage.
