Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Friday

Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC) has endorsed Jerry Brown for Attorney General. The group also criticized Brown’s opponent, State Senator Chuck Poochigian, for his extreme views on this issue – claiming that Poochigian even wants to outlaw abortion for women who are the victims of rape or incest.

The City of Santa Clarita will grow a bit when it annexes the 409-acre community of Stonecrest in east Canyon Country. The Los Angeles County Local Agency Formation Commission approved the annexation of the property this week.

The Angeleno blog at Martini Republic has a great piece about the "Battle of Los Angeles." No, this isn't Mayor Villaraigosas's effort to take over LAUSD, but the true story of one night shortly after the start of World War II when anti-aircraft guns off the LA coast fired for about an hour at an object that no one stills know what it was.

The latest government goody to be handed out? Free auto club services. If you break down on a freeway in LA, the City will now tow you for free. At what point do we hold people accountable for their own problems?

The LA Observed empire grows, with the additions of community blogs. First stop - Echo Park. Will the WWG be putting up a Pacoima Observed at some point? Don't hold your breath.

More new blogs - The Hospital Association of Southern California. Tired of not getting their message out to the public unfiltered, local medical care facilities are skipping past the media and joining the blogosphere.

If you're paying to use AOL but don't use the service to go online, you can now get most of their services for free. AOL will stop charging for access to email, chat, etc. If you use them as your ISP you still need to pay, and if you want tech support its $9.95 a month.

SACRAMENTO – Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata Thursday discussed the difficult political climate surrounding illegal immigration and as an example said “You've got all these crackers ... down in San Diego.” ...

His office later issued a clarification, though not an apology.

. . . so, THIS is why KABC and "Borg" McIntyre are scrambling down the back side of their alarmist fire pole and keeping their mouths shut about Academia Semillas lately (FINALLY).

Management's about to throw the "all Ass-similation Radio" team under the news van for making the station look like rabid dogs. Bashing "illegals" is easy money, but getting bomb threats called in on LITTLE KIDS, is just SO not Walt (Disney, not "Wacko"). The worst thing WD ever did to kids was blow a little second-hand chain-smoke at them during screenings.

And WHAT did Semillas staff and administrators TELL Disney big wigs. Exactly what's been printed here several times. YOU GOT THE NUMBERS ALL WRONG. Your WHOLE "expose" is A-W-O-L as to facts and S-O-L as to virtue. Scooby dooby don't, Math-Moron Borg.

(AND, of course, KABC did NOT want the NC people to take part. . . STILL can't acknowledge that the community there SUPPORTS the school they've been bashing).

Committee Report: LA-32 NC Ad-Hoc Social Justice Committee Meeting

Friday, July 28, 2006 – 5:30 PM

In Attendance: Committee Members: Jessie Granados, Sadra Larsen & Hugo
Garcia

Old Business:

A.) Update on Semillas Del Pueblo:

Committee member Hugo Garcia represented LA-32 and the Social Justice Committee at a meeting with Disney marketing representative, Gilbert Davila, on Saturday, July 8, 2006. The meeting was held at the LA Convention Center during the National Council of La Raza's (NCLR) convention. Also in attendance were Semillas administrators, staff, teachers, parents, as well as NCLR representatives and legal counsel.

This meeting consisted of a viewing of the Semillas video and brief presentations by Semillas' supporters. Hugo reported on the motions related to Semillas that LA-32 passed at our General Board meeting of July 5, 2006. Mr. Davila listened to the various speakers and agreed to reconvene after meeting with KABC representatives.

A second meeting was held on Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Disney's Burbank facility. Committee member Hugo Garcia attended the meeting.

Disney representative Gilbert Davila insisted that only representatives directly connected to Semillas attend the meeting. This time the meeting included top executives from KABC. Semillas agreed with this arrangement so LA-32 NC, NCLR and legal
counsel did not attend the meeting. Hugo managed to enter the meeting for a very brief period and present a letter to Disney
representatives concerning LA-32's position on our motions in support of Semillas.

Don't forget Tony is a megalomanical Diva-raigosa with his entourage plying him with Listerine breath strips and $140 bottles of wine and is betraying his original endorsers at EAA. DWP is the most overpaid, underworked City agency. All their job classifications pay more than the comparable jobs in other City agencies and if DIVA had any real guts he would address the parity issue instead o ducking out the door anytime a real issue confronts him.

Someone needs to call Disney's TOP TOP DOGS and let them know what's up with this racist school. Guaranteed they have NO IDEA what their employees are doing or meeting with.

Did anyone read the story in the Wave about the guy on the Water Board District who wants to carve out his own Latino district? What the fuck? He just gets appointed and is already trying to manuever for his own fiefdom?
What an ass. I hope he loses in November.

Free towing from freeway patrols isn't done to service wayward motorists, it's done to keep traffic moving smoothly, as traffic snarls cost the city more in lost tax revenue than the cost of operating the service. In San Francisco they have several massive tow trucks that just push cars all the way across the bridges if they have to - it's cheaper for the city to replace the car (if they have to) than the snarl would cost in tax revenue.

I love the Chicken Corner because it serves notice to people how white hipsters have seriously gentrified Echo Park. People have this mistaken belief that the hipsters have improved the area. Actually, it is worse now that people like Eric Garcetti built a million dollar home there. Why? The culture vultures have come in and taken out the culture that makes it great.

Tell these hipster to go back to the OC, Encino and other nameless suburbs.

11:27 AM, no, you've got it wrong. Echo Park was a hell of a nice neighborhood up until around the mid 60's. Its decline correlated with non-whites moving in, and now is close to the crappiest it has been since the beginning of the 20th century. Maybe its becoming "hipster" will actually make it a liveable place again.

Same goes for many other parts of L.A. A lot of places that were just beautiful 40 years ago are now almost slums. MacArthur Park is one good example. When I drive down that part of Wilshire I think holy fuck, what happened?

I can't believe that the Reps put up such a wingnut against Jerry Brown - they haven't figured out that California isn't Mississippi where being against abortion in cases of rape and incest might fly (but maybe not ever there).

Well, I lived in Echo Park in the 60s and there were a lot of Latinos and Asians, and less whites. They were not the "good ole' times" as you imply.
