Morning Briefs on the battles within the Los Angeles Political Machine for Monday

CD 10 City Councilman and possible future Council President Herb Wesson
Councilman Wesson staffer and Redistricting Commission Executive Director Andrew Westall.
Great Monday to all as a soggy desert weekend gives way to a sunny week in the City of Los Angeles
Some time last spring, CD 10 City Councilman Herb Wesson was the subject of an interview with "The City Maven's" Alice Walton, They discussed Wesson's thinly-veiled desire to replace Councilman Eric Garcetti as City Council President and his thoughts on redistricting, plus the role his senior deputy Andrew Westall would play in the process as Walton reported.

In Wesson’s corner is Andrew Westall, his senior deputy and a man considered to be an expert on the subject, having participated in the 2002 redistricting process.“I do think that having Andrew Westall will be an asset,” Wesson. “What I want to see is once (commissioners) get started and then they begin to get feedback from the people, because I have to see what the folks want and then try to deliver.”

Some months later, we are getting peeks behind Councilman Weeson's true motives for having Westall installed as the Redistricting Commission's Executive Director, as noted by Jack Humphreville's latest missive on the City Council's "case of the slows" on dealing with the DWP Ratepayer Advocate.

While the City Council has not had time to draft and enact the necessary ordinances for the Ratepayers Advocate, they certainly have had time to devote to back room politics regarding the desire of Herb Wesson (of Harold & Belle’s fame) to be the next President of the City Council and the inappropriate, strong arm tactics of his staffer, Andrew Westall, who, as the Executive Director of the City’s Redistricting Commission, is trading redistricting favors for votes for Herb from other Members of the City Council.

.... and the sun shines on reality at 200 Spring Street.
Other news after the jump.

..... for another dispatch from the Gatto Truther Astro Turf Blog "Burbank Blogger(s)".
** The Burbank Blogger is back with a timely hit on Assemblyman Anthony Portatino's decision to take on State Senator Carol Liu. As in most dispatches from the Burbank Blogger(s), we must put this post into a Assemblyman Mike Gatto context. Simply, Portatino taking on Liu is bad news for the Infant Assemblyman because if his desire to replace CD 4 Tom Labonge does not come to fruition, then his next option to remain employed as a politico, would be taken away with a Portatino win.
The sunk "U.S.I.S. Pat McOsker" in the political waters of CD 15.
** Via Daily News Rick Orlov, we are glad to report that UFLAC President Pat McOsker survive the sinking of the SEIU and IBEW crafted "U.S.I.S. Pat McOsker" by CD 15 voters and is stepping back into his role as the leader of the city's rank and file firefighters.
CD 14 City Councilman Jose Huizar and staff excels at "self-congratulations".
About 500 people attended the forum on Wednesday, Nov. 9, organized by 14th District City Councilman José Huizar. Although much of the evening was dedicated to reviewing the accomplishments of Huizar's nearly 4-year-old Bringing Back Broadway initiative and the $125 million L.A. Streetcar project, there were indications of two large developments coming to the street.
.... and they are?
Your thoughts..............

I WAS MENTIONING IN MY POST WEEKS AGO ABOUT THIS CONFLICT OF INTEREST. WE NEED OUTSIDE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THESE COMMISSIONS. BY OUTSIDE I MEAN NOT APPOINTED BY CITY GOVERNMENT OR A PART OF CITY OFFICES. THE PUBLIC MUST HAVE A ELECTIBLE PLACE AT THE TABLE. SAME IS TRUE FOR THE RATE PAYER. WHEN THE CITY RUNS THE SHOW WE HAVE NO TRANSPARENCY AND NEVER WILL. TO THINK THAT ANYONE WILL NOT LEARN THE BOUNDARIES ON THE JOB IS RIDICULOUS. NO ONE COMES TO THESE POSITIONS HAVING ALL THE ANSWERS. YOU LEARN BUT BEING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC IS A MAJOR PART OF REPAIRING PROBLEMS IN THE OPERATION AND EXECUTION OF THESE PLANS.
