Afternoon Briefs on the Los Angeles Political Scene for Monday
Former friend of labor? Mayor Antonio Villar in the background as Los Angeles County Labor Federation Leader Maria Elena Durazo speaks at Councilman Jose Huizar's Campaign Kickoff "Photo via Ed Headington".
Union buster to the back?
That is discreetly and privately what some in the Los Angeles Labor Community are saying about Mayor Antonio Villar. But try to get these frontline labor leaders to state that for the record? Good friggin luck! These labor brothers and sisters do remember that the Mayor's "long time partner in labor" Maria Elena Durazo is the leader of the LA County Labor Federation.
But these private thoughts among Mayor Villar's supposed progressive allies may be the root of the mayor's "latest whine" (wonder if buddy Fabian Nunez had a special choice in mind?) to Daily News Rick Orlov, other scribes and editors on a recent visit to the Valley Daily Moldy Green Sheet of Record.
"I am a Democrat," Villaraigosa said, during a meeting with Daily News reporters and editors last week. "But I have been willing to make the tough decisions. We have laid off 400 workers. That is more than (former mayors) Sam Yorty, Tom Bradley, Dick Riordan or James Hahn did combined."
One can feel Villar's self-serving comments through the protesting masses of city employees who have long ago given up on awaiting any substanant fiscal leadership from the third floor and now await in patience the end of the Mayor Villar Era.
But still the clout of labor is not one to dismiss as seen with the recent deal between the Wyvernwood Apartment Complex's Fifteen Group owners and the County Fed led group of unions and community non-profits. Something that Councilman Huizar will have to contend with as he opposes the Wyvernwood plans.
More news after the bloggin leap.
** The Los Angeles Times was rightfully awarded the Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of the City of Bell corruption saga. Praise should also be given to reporter Hector Bacerra who's earlier reports on the numerous nefarious political dealings in Southeast LA, set the standard for the times most recent journalistic honor.
** City of Los Angeles leaders are planning to ask NFL officials for an written guarantee that any team relocated to a new downtown stadium will stay put 20-30 years before approving stadium construction.

Can someone please summarize the point this guy is trying to make? Seems like there is a point, somewhere? I think it could probably be condensed into one sentence.

I'm not sure we can trust Red Spot's word at this point.
I have no idea what this post is about.
But based SOLELY on credibility and his inability to bring about change (500 Huizar stories, and Huizar coasts to victory), what's the point in reading what Red Spot has to say anymore?
If in 500 posts about Huizar, it didn't mean a damn bit of difference, what's the point in reading what Scott has to say?
"ONE WONDERS" why Scott even bothers anymore. I'd be incredibly embarrassed if I put in that effort and "NOONE" listened.

Scottie,
Think about how much time you could have spent drinking beer instead of posting more misinformation that you didn't bother to research.
Hey, remember that LIE you posted about Mike Gatto? The one where you said that he was evicted from a building, only to later find out (FROM HIS ATTORNEY) that he never lived there at all?
Remember that?
Why didn't you ever explain how you got that wrong? Was it because you are too lazy to research? Or were you just interested in throwing mud, even if it was a total, 100% lie?
You should explain to us how that happened.
Are you being ANY fairer or more diligent now? It doesn't seem so.

Higby why do you let that guy post anonymously and trash your blog all over town?

Note to editor of this blog...
Another Red Spot post without any comments about the subject being reported.
The four comments are about the author, not the content. And neither is this fifth comment. So it is worse than no comments. Five negatives. And not one comment on the covered stopic.
Is he writing about things your readers do not care about? Or is it just him the readers don't care about?

I guess Red Spot is still getting under some peoples' skin - why respond at all if this is what you think of him.
I got the point - Tony is a whore and like every women that ever had a relationship with Tony - Labor is finding this out the hard way. Tony used labor (he wasn't much of an organizer and doesn't have any labor victories to really point at) and now he is throwing labor under the bus. Any wonder why this whore never showed up in Wisconsin?
The only question here is why has labor given him such a free pass? Is he still banging Maria Elena? Tony sold out labor but that's no surprise - he also sold out his alcoholic mother and his sober father - once a whore always a whore.

More layoffs than all the previous mayors combined? As far as I remember, those Mayors managed to balance the budget without any layoffs or tax increases. This Mayor has incresed trash fees from $10 a month to over $36 a month, as well as fee increases across the board, and still had to layoff employees.

YOU CAN BE SURE OF ONE THING ANYTHING TO DO WITH OUR CITY LEADERS AND THIS MAYOR HAS A LOT OF DIRT ON IT. YOU JUST AREN'T AT THE BACKROOM WHERE THE REAL DEALS ARE CUT. THE CITY OF BELL IS BUT AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT IS THE NORM FOR CITY GOVERNMENTS THROUGHOUT THIS COUNTRY. LOS ANGELES WOULD BE A GOOD START POINT FOR REFORM IF THE PEOPLE JOINED HANDS AND FOUGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS AND THEIR KIDS. AT LEAST CITY OF BELL CITIZENS HAD THE BALLS TO FIGHT.
