Is Downtown News Jon Regardie "Going the Maeve Reston Route" on 2013 Mayoral Election?
** Saturday morning update: "Scribe of Wit" stands corrected as we cut and paste revised paragraph below.
He joins a field of political and business leaders that is expected to get crowded and competitive. City Controller Wendy Greuel and Councilwoman Jan Perry have already filed papers to run for mayor, as has KRLA radio host Kevin James. City Council President Eric Garcetti, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, state Sen. Alex Padilla and Rick Caruso have also mused publicly about entering the race.
Memo to Downtown News Executive Editor and noted "Scribe of Wit" Jon Regardie, did you take a blow to the head on the basketball court somewhere recently?
My paramount concern and puzzlement over your current mental status stems from this passage in your most recent story on the Downtown LA insiders "political flav of the moment" First Deputy Mayor Austin Buetner (rings like the first dean of students who kicked Tony Villar out of school, the first time).
To refresh your witty mind my friend, you noted these current and possible candidates to succeed "Anvil" in 2013. Pause as I channel CD 14 cut and pasting in posting the pertinent paragraph.

As an LAUSD survivor, I present the following multiple choice selection that include the missing declared candidate, who by the way has $500,000 in pledge contributions. They are the following,
A. Zuma Dogg
B. Phil Jennerjahn
C. KRLA Talk Radio Host Kevin James
D. Lu "Evita" Parkervillar
Not being one to find conspiracies lurking within the cut and paste recesses of CD 14, the deserted catacombs of the Old Gray Hag on Spring Street or within the pages of the Downtown News for that matter. I want to give you the benefit of the doubt that your momentary lapses in not listing Kevin James as one of the declared candidates for third floor office space at 200 Spring Street, was only that.
But beware of some in the local political bloggersphere who may fathom thoughts of you a being a secret member of some elitist downtown cabal that sees Buetner as their new political rainmaker. After all, you do a good enough job of assembling fact and transforming them into witty prose, than to rely on some politically-out-of-touch Times writer to regurgitate names of mayoral wannabees.
In closing friend, you and I can relate to chance whacks on the hardwood, after all look what one concussion on the basketball court has done for my spollin and grammer abilities.
Best Wishes,
Scott Johnson in CD 14

I can see that Mayor Sam is going to be the "Why isn't anyone paying attention to the pasty white guy?" blog for the next year. Call the wahhhmbulance!

I know Jon and I doubt he would call you a friend. "Red Spot in CD who, what and why?" would be more like it. Go back to your secret clubhouse and eat a few more CLARK bars with your boy scout battalion.

$500,000 in contributions, already? Wow! That IS impressive. Are they listed on the ethics website, yet? Or are those just the projected contributions that are being hoped for? There's a difference. Do you mean $500,000 in "promised" contributions?

Red Spot,
You squandered ALL of your already limited reliability on the Matto Gatto and Jose Huizar fronts.
Regardie is a PROFESSIONAL journalist (i.e. people pay to get their ads around his articles), and he has wit whereas you don't.
You're probably the last person on earth to complain about anyone's impartiality.
You need 1000x better judgment than you've demonstrated for people to take you seriously.
Go back to making up lies about people with whom you disagree. Remember how you and Higby had to fold once Gatto's lawyer bitch slapped you down?
And "NOONE" won their City Council race by a bigger margin than Jose Huizar.
All of your work was for nothing.
And "NOONE" cares about non-candidates like Frank Sheftel and Phil Jennerjahn. You've already overplayed those hands.

Scott,
Jon Regardie barely knows your name, let alone consider you a friend.
You are really impressed with yourself, aren't you?

"ONE WONDERS" if Scott thinks he can get attention by picking a non-fight with Regardie, who is PAID for his opinions, unlike Scott.

SHUT UP ZUMA DOGG!
YOU'RE A HIPPOCRIT BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU DESERVE TENNIE PIERCE MONEY EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE TOTAL ABLE BODIED.
The only reason why your here is because "noone" comes to read your stupid karioke comments again.
People don't care about karioke and people dont care about you you housing project economist. And "noone"cares about your non career in radio. Noone beliefs youre lies.

For a guy who SAYS he knows everything about radio, Zuma Dogg sure doesn't know that Kevin will have to give up his radio show once he officially starts his campaign.
It's per the FCC.
Yet another example that proves Zuma doesn't know shit about radio or politics.

Today's riddle o' the day:
Who lives in the 14th, claims to be a rep., claims to be an environmentalist, claims to know politics and is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, on everything he ever predicts?
If you guesses Scottie "Red Spot" Johnson you are right.
Other aliases include:
- Indiana Jones wannabe.
- Fred Flintstone lookalike.
- Wally George disciple.

Phil Jennerjahn has made a complete fool of himself in his endorsement of Carmen Trutanich's bid to become District Attorney.
"Nuch will always be my hero for threatening to throw City Council Member Jan "The Hamburglar" Perry in jail over her misbehavior in city dealings with the investment group AIG. Phil says on his blog.
Not only does Phil forget that it was AEG not AIG that his hero threatened with jail, but that after Nuch's grandstanding, he accepted a bunch of Lady Gaga tickets from AEG when dropped his ridiculous 'criminal aspects' investigation.
If idiots like Phil are the barometer of the type of voter who can be persuaded to vote for Trutanich, then the opponents have little to fear, they'll probably get the name Trutanich wrong and vote for Alan Jackson because 'Jackson' reminds them of Trutanich's sham investigation into AEG's Michael Jackson memorial. Or is that AIG's investigation into the Trutanich campaign, or something ...

MORE YADA!YADA!YADA! FROM THE BALCONY. THE ELECTION WILL BE DECIDED BY THE MEDIA WHO GIVES THESE INCUMBENT PROTOTYPES PRINT SPACE. IF MAYOR SAM OR OTHER WEBSITES HAD REAL FOLLOWERS OR CLOUT THEY COULD INFLUENCE RACES. BUT ONLY A FEW LOCALS WHO ARE INTERESTED TUNE IN. TOO MUCH SPACE IS WASTED ON TRIVIAL NONSENSE AND NOT ON KNOWN FACTS. I REALIZE THIS CITY NEEDS AND OTHER CITIES NEED A REAL PLACE TO ORGANIZE AND GROW A CREDIBLE ORGANIZATION THAT CAN GET THE RIGHT PEOPLE ELECTED, ALSO THEY NEED A PLACE WHERE THEY CAN START PETITION LISTS SO THE PUBLIC CAN PLACE AMMENDMENTS ON THE BALLOT. FOR STARTERS WE NEED TO CHANGE HOW MONEY IS DISTRIBUTED BETWEEN CANDIDATES. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? JUST THINK IF NO MATTER WHO RAISED THE MOST MONEY IF ALL MONEY RAISED WAS PUT IN A POT THEN DISTRIBUTED EQUALLY TO ALL CANDIDATES THAT WOULD LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD, WOULDN'T IT? THINK NO MORE BUYING THE OFFICE NO MORE UNION OR CORPORATION CONTROL. WE NEED CHANGE LIKE THAT. OTHERWISE REVOLUTION IN THE STREETS WILL HAPPEN AND PEOPLE WILL DIE. YOU CAN'T CONTINUE TO CUT AND TAKE MONEY AND NOT SUFFER CONSEQUENSES.

You don't have to chime in when some fool mentions your name. This blog is fine without your homeless economist ways. And "noone" cares about karriokey.

I don't understand.
The purpose of the filing that Kevin James and the other candidates just completed was to allow them to "solicit" and receive contributions.
So how did he get $500,000 in pledges when he couldn't solicit them, and no one, other than perhaps some close friends, knew that he was going to file papers?
Given the $1000 contribution limit, that means that at least 500 people who weren't solicited by him all decided to contact him and pledge to give him money.
