This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

he wont't last long he is taking to many photo opps from the mayor. We cannot have that. Only one face on every poster at a time, thank you.

We're the entertainment capitol of the world! Why can't we have billboards? What wrong with that? I think there's this whole "mob-like" mentality when it comes to the billboard issue. I realize we have illegal billboards and they should pay the fees everyone else has to. No doubt about that.
Sure, they don't belong in quiet nice communities, beaming into people's bedroom windows when they try to sleep at night; but there should at least be a designated area for electronic billboards, like Hollywood, Downtown maybe at the beach.
I think we need to use all the marketing tools we can get to boost business in the city in this down economy. I also think billboard companies should pay more fees to the city for electronic boards since they can charge a fortune for electronic ads.
We need a billboard zone.

9:26pm "We need a billboard zone" - the problem was that the City's eagerness to pander to some billboard sites (Staples Center) while unfairly and arbitrarily denying permits to anyone who is not a 'favored' city insider (major campaign contributor) created an unconstitutional situation. The city council now realizes that the mayor's favoritism for AEG is unacceptable and illegal. Thats why they voted for Trutanich's ban on all billboards and that's the way it will remain until the Feds do what they've been trying to do for ages.

I am very glad that someone is fighting for this city to try to be a liveable place.
And, it not the mayor or the city council. And, placing a hiring freeze on LAPD is the most stupidest things they can do. Bratton is right. He was smart getting out of town and no longer having to deal with those nuckelheads.

I am so glad that I saw Gustavo last year when he was a guest conductor. I thought he was incredibly awesome and energetic.
I hate billboards too, but where I don't want to see them is on the freeway.
If you want to see something beautiful spoiled, imagine if there were billboards on the 405 in the Sepulveda pass on that beautiful drive down the freeway. The last thing anyone wants (since they're usually stressed from their drive) is a huge billboard advertising Disney's latest movie.
