Whoopi Goldberg Excuses Rapist Roman
Whoopi Goldberg is usually out there. But this time the View co-host has lost it. She sees no reason to prosecute Roman Polanski for child-rape and being a fugitive from law. What she refers to as "statutory rape" is completely inaccurate from the facts in the case. Even if Polanski's victim was 21 years old this would be rape.
He plied her with liquor. He drugged her with Quaaludes. He then raped her vaginally and anally DESPITE HER PLEAS OF NO. By her own ommission he ruined her life. Then, rather than be a man and face his mistakes he ran to another country. What is there not to get? Now the man has finally been captured and some people have lost their mind.
Even goofy Joy Behar gets it. By the way for those of who are indignant this has nothing to do with LA politics oh indeed it does. Its a crime that happened in Los Angeles and is now finally being prosecuted by the elected District Attorney of Los Angeles County, as all citizens expect him to prosecute crimes.

Aren't there a lot of other rapists out there that need to be caught?
They are likely to rape again. Why go after a 77 year old pervert and waste precious city resources just to make Cooley look good? Even the victim wants this to go away.
The victim wants it to go away because she has a cash judgment against Polanski. If he can't work she gets no dough.
If this rapist is not prosecuted then all the other rapists know they can get off too!
The ones with money! Heck, if they have money, they'll get off anyway!

I will never watch The View again as long as Whoopi Goldberg is a co-host. Her comments are unforgivable! She might as well go and keep Roman company while he rots in jail, cause in my view, what she is doing, though after the fact, is "contributing to the deliquency of a minor" (and worse). Rape is not ok! It never was and it never will be!
I can't belive that some idiots actually believe that Pedapolanski, who has had a history of having sex with underage girls (Natasha Kinski among others),think that he should be given a pass on raping a 13 year old girl. Having sex with a girl or woman against her will is rape even if she is of legal age.
If Pedapolanski had not been a rich white guy he would of been in jail for several years. If he was a poor black man or latino he would of been thrown in jail.
He must be punished to show that justice is indeed blind. If he is not punished then poor pedophiles should not be punished because they don't have the resources to escape.
Polanski is lucky to have committed this crime in 1977 before the current sex offender registry came into affect, and crime enhancements. He's lucky to have committed the crime before the current law banning settlements in lieu of testimony (thank you Michael Jackson).
This case is the PEOPLE of California V. Roman Polanski. I understand how the victim wants this to go away, but the PEOPLE want justice here.
He is a rapist. No means No. A 13-year old girl CANNOT give consent, with our without a Quaalude and champagne. He pled guilty to a lesser charge, yet doesn't want to do the time. Too bad.

Everybody accuses Mr.Polanski but what about the victim`s mother ? Did she agree to leave her premature daughter with the beast ? Why LA prosecutors are nowadays so eager to chase the celebrity like Mr.Polanski and tens of tens of contemporary wrongdoers are walking freely in the streets of LA ? Will they be punished in 30 years because prosecutors are busy with persecution of Mr.Polanski ? Or maybe the wrongdoers are so lucky because they are unknown to the wider public ? Or maybe they are lucky because of the overcrowding in LA jails and the shortage of funds under the rule of the ex-bodybuilder and a mean actor, the unsuccessful governor of California the Austrian American Arnold Schwarzenegger ?
Offending the Europeans is a small price to pay for the entertainment/ educational value in watching people line up behind Polanski. I hope the extradition drags on for months.
9:54 is right. It's about wasting money and misplaced priorities when there are thousands and thousands of rape kits out there that aren't being tested - those are rapists and attackers who may do it again NOW.
Those kits aren't sexy and you can't get any media attention for them - but this Polanski case is getting Cooley the soundbites he wants for a huge show trial. It's about him.
Meanwhile he has many proven cases of knowingly framing and then, hiding evidence of misconduct to let the victims rot in jail, where they would have stayed if certain pro bono lawyers hadn't fought like hell, with millions in free legal time. Two of them were profiled in Times recently, Paul Lisker and Deborah Peagler, who served decades in jail because of this misconduct.
But stupid fools like Whoopi and Harvey Weinstien, Debra Winger, are playing into the hands of the DA's PR stunt - they turn all the attention away from the facts.
Fact is, that Polanski is an old man who's been no threat for decades, to the contrary - and if he were an ordinary guy wouldn't have been prosecuted for decades. So forget the crap about how he's being treated like anyone else.
The rape kits sitting on shelves by the thousands, each representing a victim, testify to that.
People, who say that he shouldn't be prosecuted because there are rape kits that have not been processed don't understand government funding. The rape kit tests are done through the city of los angeles police department. The money comes from the city budget to conduct the tests.
The District Attorney's money comes from the County Board of Supervisors. The question is not should we spend money or Rape Kits or prosecution because the money for DA and the Rape Kits come from different sources and not spending money at the DA's office will not result in that money be used to test rape kits.
If you want more rape kits tested you will have to find by cutting the budget on some City of LA function such as the ZOO, Planning or Transportation.
So this whole argument is stupid and simplistic to state its either one or the other.
Too bad Charley Manson didn't show up on a night that Roman was home. Why wasn't he there anyway with his pregnant wife? Was he off screwing some teenager?
1:47 dum-dum: The DA's office IS funded by the County as you say BUT you are utterly wrong and ignorant of what you claim to "explain" when you say it's the fault or burden of the LAPD to test COUNTY rape kits.
The COUNTY Sheriff Leroy Baca's dept. is responsible for testing COUNTY rape kits and while the bad press was all on the LAPD which is funded by a financially struggling CITY which just yesterday moved to reduce the LAPD, in fact, Baca's COUNTY Sheriff's dept. (with an enormously greater budget than LAPD) was the real laggard in testing DNA rape kits.
OF COURSE the hacks pushing for Trutanich-Cooley didn't tell you that, only harped and harped on LAPD and Jack Weiss - who got the LAPD on track to test all pertinent rape kits in real time and got the Council to commit to funding the continued testing (which involves some 16 scientific specialists and and use of a lab which has been built). Laura Chick was all wrong about Weiss not pushing til he succeeded with this issue; he'd been pushing since 02, just ask Greig SMith who was also working on the issue on the public safety committee, and spoke out angrily about this to the Daily News' Orlov last spring. But that wrong report was the ONLY reason she was beloved by the Kevin James crowd until she outed Trutanich as "a liar and demagogue."
(Even after the election this lamebrain James has continued to claim that it's Jack Weiss who's intentionally exposing women to rape by not having more kits tested - of course, never any mention of the Sheriff's dept. and DA, who have their OWN backlog that they use as a political football.) For the record, I've never heard of Weiss bashing the Sheriff or DA unlike what they did in a nasty way to him for purely partisan reasons, undermining their professional integrity.
Sheriff Baca, meanwhile, threatened not to test ANY rape kits when confronted with a cut in his budget by the COUNTY supervisors recently - prompting even Antonovich to lash out at his gamesmanship, saying he knew long in advance he'd have some cuts and would have to prioritize. Now he's testing some again, but only after public embarrassment raining down on his dept. AFTER the LAPD was unfairly heaped with all kinds of blame.
The day will come that the Whoopster will claim the next celebrity criminal will not have committed "murder murder" but just murder... That will be the End of Days for us all.
I wish Whoopi would take a little champagne and Qualudes and let Roam pump her a little in the butt to see how she likes it.

Brining Polanski to justice has nothing to do with rape kit testing. We can do both things and letting him go just because it happened a long time ago is stupid. If we were to follow that logic going after andy Nazi after 1975 was a waste of time.
Celebrities coming to his defense just remind the general public of how arrogant they act and think/

Rape is rape is rape. What's not to get? Time does not forgive such a crime.
While I admire Polanski's work, he cannot be forgiven the crime until he's paid his debt to society. It isn't about whether he's an old man or a threat to society. He committed the crime (a felony) so must do the time. He's had 31 years of freedom while his victim has been a prisoner of his actions for these 31 years. A 44 year old seducing a 13 year old is an outrage by any standard of decency. The pain and horror she endured that night should not be erased by the 31 years.
Rape kits, costs etc. have nothing to do with it. We cannot put a price on justice. By this logic, we would not convict or imprison anyone because of the cost.
And knocking Cooley for doing his job is ridiculous. That's really illogical, to say the least.
Justice delayed is justice denied. Bring Polanski back to the U.S. as it's time for him to pay the piper.
"Rape is rape" that`s the mantra repeating by the persecutors here. Why don`t you bother that the Mr.Polanski`s victim had been raped several times by some other guys before the intercourse with the beast ? Why don`t you bother that the mother left her alone with the beast ? Why didn`t she tell that her daughter is not adult and should be guarded by her parents during the photo session ? I can see many "saints" in American society now and then but I doubt that they are really saint. In fact they are beasts under the human skin.
