Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Tuesday

The teachers union, parents and the Mayor are battling over a new LAUSD high school. The new $106-million Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez Learning Center is designed to relieve crowding at perennial basketcase Roosevelt High School which falls under the Mayor's "Partnership" of controlled schools. The Mayor and his team feel that because Mendez pulls students from Roosevelt, its their. The UTLA as well as parents say hold the phone. Though the Mayor is quietly attempting the takeover it appears it's the next battle in an escalating conflict between Villaraigosa and the Mayor (oops I meant the union but hey maybe there is an epic like battle between Villaraigosa and the Mayor!). Stay tuned.

I don't even think Obama was thinking of this when he devised the spendalus program. Tuesday the Los Angeles City Council will vote to use Federal dollars to make a $30 million loan to bring Cirque du Soleil to the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. Yes we will hear the usual about how great it will be to have the circus come to town and all the jobs/money it will generate. But how many thousands of businesses in Los Angeles do just that without sweetheart deals from the City? No need for this circus; we already have a Clowncil.

With Wendy Greuel having moved up to Controller and her former Council district under the control of a caretaker, some residents of CD2 say the District is going to hell. Reports of homeless squatting, piling up trash, crime and other quality of life issues are piling up with no response from the City. A special election is set for Greuel's successor in September and likely not a moment too soon.

And finally Laurette Healey continues to delight. Apparently angry over our recent post outing her comments about the "complexion" of Sherman Oaks versus Van Nuys, she posted the following on her Facebook page: "Love that the wizards behind the Mayor Sam website have finally outed themselves. Michael Higby - YOU have some splaining to do!" She then links to a post from LAObserved that the bloggers at Mayor Sam have come out from behind the anony-curtain. Of course this story is from 2005 but Laurette's been busy lately.

The Mayor hasn't done anything to help with the overcrowding at Roosevelt and the 60% drop out rate. Now he wants another school. The parents gave him an F. The media is not reporting those Cirque tickets will cost $100. I don't think too many people are spending that kind of money. And last the Mayor and city council morons Tonight are having a fundraiser tonight at AEG for the stolen Summer Night Lights program that was originally the brain child of Connie Rice. Tickes are $250 per person

Yes, I will stay tuned to see who wins the battle between Villaragiosa and the mayor. Glad your head is in this.

Gee the police union must have heard all the bad mouthing they've been getting. Finally they are coming out supporting their own officers with National Night Out. The NC's were upset cause they were supporting a Greig Smith event before their own officers.

8:15 I don't understand your comment. I suggest that you visit:
http://www.nationalnightout.org/nno/

NNO is not a "police" supporting their own event. It's a national event to fight against crime and honor those that do so. Why shouldn't the NC's, Council offices and the entire city support it? It's supposed to be a educational, informatative event focusing on safety.

You missed the point. The police union was supporting Greig Smith's free hot dog event before they started promoting NNO for LAPD. Heloooo!!! Who do they represent????? LAPD!!! The next day Mrs. Doubtfire Greig Smith files the motion against LAPD for the retired cops. Connect the dots. Ask yourself why that councilmember? Trust me everyone was bad mouthing them. Then to add insult to injury they listed the NNO "national" web page instead of LAPD's. Everyone knows these guys don't support Bratton or the officers. They collect over $6 million in dues and use it to give to city council members, city attorney and have retreats for themselves. Yes, you're right everyone should support NNO.

The PPL has committed one misstep after the other since Weber took over in early December, wasting tons of money electing the wrong people just because they were aligned with his personal rightwing views and with his friend/ advisor Zine - that means against the mayor and Bratton and "ruling majority" so he's hurt the cops he's allegedly trying to protect. STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES.

Those people he has elected may not agree with you, but they agree with him and his ethics.

Rather have Jacko? Move to where he runs from next.

"Shares his ethics" like Trutanich? That guy has no ethics. Says and does anything to anyone to get elected and is and always has been a fraud. I wouldn't boast about Weber sharing HIS ethics. And certainly not Zine! A disgrace as a sitting councilman, his slandering, sliming and backstabbing while he's 2-faced.
Of course they TALK a big "ethics" game and thump the bible, but it's all a deceptive game, beyond empty words and soundbites, just lies. I genuinely can't think of any two people who have LESS genuine decency, integrity and ethics.

BTW my opinions of Trutanich, Zine and their clique have nothing to do with ANYONE else but them, that these extremely ambitious people are making all that noise because they have higher political ambitions and are too dangerous where they are let alone any "higher." - Trutanich was already talking about being mayor on certain programs before he even took office, LOL, and Zine is either aiming for the same or for Chief of Police, with Weber's blessing and money.

The very idea curls one's hair. Fortunately these two have gone so beyond the pale so recklessly and fast, there's no chance in hell they'll achieve their fantasies - but they'll keep on trying.

Oh poor Laurette. She can't really be talking about the 4 year-old LA Observed article, can she? Some anonymous poster must have revealed themselves to her in some way.

I won't deny that I miss the days of Higby, Brian Hay and Trujillo.

It was fun and there was literally, hot scoop. Now it's just a bunch of anonymous, even if you know their names, Republican haters.
