Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Thursday

In the aftermath of the resignation of William Bratton as Chief of the LAPD already speculation is rampant on who his successor will be. There is significant feeling that the replacement should come from within the current ranks of the force. However Council President Eric Garcetti is not closing the door on an outsider telling the LA Times "There's wonderful leaders inside the department, and there's wonderful people who have left the department and are elsewhere, and there's other people like Bill Brattons out there who have been doing a great job in other cities."  The surprise announcement by Bratton had some insiders speculating if his departure is related to details of the investigation of the Michael Jackson funeral expense by City Attorney Carmen Trutanich that could potentially prove embarrassing for the Chief.  Stay tuned.

Several hundred City of Los Angeles vendors recently received payment checks from the City that were returned by the bank for non-sufficient funds.  City Controller Wendy Greuel is blaming an error by the City's bank, Wachovia.  The City says the problem has been resolved and vendors should re-desposit their check.  Oops.

Latinopoiticsblog.com reports that Orange County Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is the only Latina on the National Republican Campaign Committee's "hit list" for 2010.  Sanchez has been involved in a number of imbroglios lately - including a reported affair with a former Defense Department official  and current lobbyist in violation of ethics rules - that its likely she could be vulnerable to both a primary challenge from the left and a well-funded, moderate Republican opponent.

And finally for those of you who like your "stories" this might be good news for you.  Production of the long running soap "All My Children" is moving from New York to a studio in Glassell Park, much to the delight of Council President Eric Garcetti.  As some studios have been shipping production jobs out of LA its good to see new shoots coming here.  This very well may be an issue in the CD 2 race as candidate Chris Essel, formerly a studio executive, is going up against Assemblyman Paul Krekorian who succesfully passed legislation to provide financial incentives to film and television projects that remain in California.

Seems there's a huge backlash on Trutanich and Ron Kaye. Acting like little girls gossiping rather then being men. Why would Ron care about what Trutanich found out unless he has an alterior motive. Who is getting paid by the PPL police union thugs? Word is Bratton was offered a job making over $1 mil. Good for him getting out of this city with the worst politicians in the nation. Bratton's dad is in his 80's and not good health. He lost his mom two years ago and he's already accomplished what he set out to do. Why the hell would anyone want to stay in LA after that?

Three good internal choices, maybe four including Charlie Beck.

The three Assistant Chiefs are all top flight officers and any one of them would make a great chief.

Are we ready for a woman? Maybe. Why not?

Mr. Cherkasky said Chief Bratton would focus on police consulting for postconflict nations and domestic agencies in the United States. Altegrity, formerly known as USIS, provides governments with security, intelligence and policing expertise. The company was valued at $1.5 billion in 2007.

Ron Kaye is censoring posts because he doesn't like the truth of what everyone is saying. How can you put up a website with a blog and not post what you don't like people will say about you?

Now is a good time for us to consider making the Office of Police chief an elected position. Please spare me the argument that it would make it a political position. That ship sailed long ago. Charter Amenedment anyone?

Anonymous at 6:50 AM says "Seems there's a huge backlash on Trutanich and Ron Kaye."

Can you give some references? Where is this huge backlash on Trutanich? Where is this huge backlash on Ron Kaye? I can't seem to find it.

8:43am aka Paul Weber PPL police union who is the only one who came out and said he would like to see Chief spot as elected so he could control them by giving the officer union dues like he did Trutanich without asking them. He also wants to get his guy Zine or Mrs. Doubtfire Greig Smith in office. AS IF anyone with a bit of education would vote for those morons. Teh goons of the PPL all of a sudden are promoting LAPD events cause of the negative crap they are getting. Would be great for the teamsters to take over the $6 million they spend on politicians. PPL gave Trutanich $7500,00 for campaign so who do you think Trutanich reports to? Not the city, the PPL.

So "All My Children" are moving to LA after Paul gets the tax incentive bill passed.

For those who don't play children on the little screen but find themselves is group homes with their funding cut by 30%, they will really appreicate all that Paul has done.
The problem with being in a position to make a difference is that you are in a position to make a difference!

Thanks alot from those who really do not have a voice. The failure of Sacramento will insure they fall off the radar.

With the expertise I hear that Mr. K has, wouldn't it be better for all concerned for him to keep his commitment and clean up his mess in Sacramento first?

You can be like the Chief, leaving on an up note rather than being the first one in the life boat ahead of the women and children.
