Voters are volunteering to help ZUMA DOGG!

David "Zuma Dogg" Saltsburg is a local media personality who has become a part-time resident at Los Angeles City Hall. Enraged by a City ruling that he could not sell his self-promoting rap music CD's and other merchandise at Venice Beach, Zuma Dogg took his fight right to City Hall several years ago and never left.

Zuma Dogg has been a tireless champion of citizens rights and has always tried to shine the light of exposure on some of the shady dealings that happen at City Hall. When Zuma Dogg was running for Mayor as an opponent of mine, I didn't give him much of a chance because he openly admitted to being homeless and unemployed.
(It didn't stop him from earning fourth place in the mayoral election.)

However, David eventually earned my respect by his hard work and dedication to his fellow Angelenos.
Nobody...and I repeat, NOBODY has worked as hard at protecting the City as Zuma Dogg has for the last three years. He has been to more City Council meetings than the elected City Council members - who are paid to attend. Zuma Dogg is the "secret whisperer" to whom unhappy City employees go to warn of impending trouble.

I will stop short of officially endorsing Zuma Dogg because I also have a lot of respect and admiration for Joe Essavi, who is a fellow Republican. But I can't deny that Zuma's presence on the ballot would cause a media circus in that election, and I kind of like the idea of that. The other top candidates for CD 2 are despised by most of the voters there, for various reasons. Krekorian, because he lives in Burbank and just got elected to State Legislature in November. Essel, because she is just a wealthy movie exec who actually lives around Sunset/Doheny and is filled with false altruism. Galatzan because she is seen as a Villaraigosa puppet (also her husband backed the proposed new Home Depot in Sunland-Tujunga, an idea which residents there hated ) .

Right now, residents of Venice are driving over to Council District 2 to help Zuma Dogg get his signatures on his petitions so that he can run for Los Angeles City Council.

If you would like to help, follow Zuma Doggs blog here.

What Phil isn't understanding is that nobody cares who he respects.

How are you coming along with those 240,000 recall signatures phil? ZD says he is having trouble gathering 500. How come you're feeling no pressure to get 240,000?

Don't know much about CD 2, but don't they have any legitimate residents who are viable candidates?

How long are you supposed to live in the district before you can run? How can you live in Burbank or Venice and claim to represent the residents of the Valley?

Answers??

Zuma does not live in CD2. People from Venice have no business trying to get him on the ballot. I still can't figure out why the City Clerk even accepted his application. And I like Zuma, but this is not his battle, not his territory, and he makes a mockery of a very important election.

David Saltsburg is an accident looking for a place to happen.

He is just an attention whore who will go anywhere he can to get someone to recognize him.

He is a court jester with no substance and he understands little, if anything, of what actually goes on in Los Angeles.

Like Phil, he is a wanna be with no credentials and no education.

The question is: Why does anyone still look at this remnant of a decent blog?

Higby has abandoned the asylum to the inmates.

It's ironic, Zuma Dogg could trick people in CD2 into thinking he is a resident of their district, but he is so broke that he can't beg for enough spare change to get enough gasoline to get there.

Gee the system does work after all!

Zuma Dogg has no permanent residence.
As such, he could probably run for ANY City Council spot. Besides, Essel and Krekorian don't live there in CD 2 , either.

The State laws regarding voter registration tend to be more liberal than logical. The objective in mind is to be more inclusive than exclusive when it comes to giving people the opportunity to vote.

I think Zuma Dogg can theoretically list his address as "Laurel Canyon & Ventura" and the registrar would have to accept it.

The council candidates have to live in a district for only 30 days before filing to run for office, discussed by Garcetti during the meeting where the Special Election was annouced as the method to fill the Council seat vcated by Wendy Greuel.

You already have 3 persons running who are tied to Villaraigosa to make them undesireable, regardless of their residency, "legitimate" or not.

If Zuma Dogg were elected, you'd at least have "representation" of the people, not the special interests, so clearly shown by the Antonio defense of AEG in having the taxpayers eat the millions spent during the memorial event for Michael Jackson.

Antonio "We clean your toilets" Villaraigosa has constantly decided to represent causes of anyone but his consituency, the entire population of Los Angeles, especially taxpayers. We don't need more CMs to do that.

I'm helping Zuma Dogg gather signatures.

8:12 and 9:50 are the same person.

11:32, locals who are viable candidates include Mary Benson and Louie Puglise.

Tamar's husband and her own poor performance on the school board make her a no vote.

Essel is the Jack Weiss of this election in many ways (can you say 'Weatherly'?), so NO ****** way.

Krikorian knows zero about CD 2 and doesn't care a wit. CARPETBAGGER.

Zuma will keep them all honest. He is not a carpetbagger - his home has been all of Los Angeles for a long time now.

One cannot be a resident of more than one Council District.

You are incorrect. You can be a resident of a number of CDs. One way is to simply own more than one home in different districts that you switch living in from time to time.

You cannot have your PRIMARY residence in more than one CD. And you only have to declare primary residence when you file to run.

Phil,

Thank you very much for your brilliantly insightful comments.

AND, he's willing to say that stuff about me, even though everyone knows he'll take heat for it from some people. (That's a good sign from a politician/willing to go out on a limb.) AND, to the people who say I am a carpetbagger: First of all you fail to see the CITYWIDE importance of a city council seat.

Illegal condo-conversions, density, water pricing: IT'S ALL ABOUT CD2? The wasteful spending, the planning violations: YOU DON'T THINK I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR CD2?

I think I am well aware of community needs in CD2 to hit the ground running on day one to start representing the needs of the people of CD2 and not the politicians and special interests who have been running everything.

And regarding carpetbagging, in general...if I felt Krekorian or Essel were such great candidates and were so great...WHO CARES WHERE THEY ARE FROM. I'm serious. I mean, you have to know about the area and the history of what has been happening and all of that...but if Donald Trump, or whoever that "ultimate executive" would be that could come in and take charge and do a kick-ass job and make Van Nuys into Disneyland, I don't care if they are flying in from Dubai.

So when I attack Paul Krekorian and Chris Essel, it ain't over carpetbagging, you crybaby losers.

But anyway, thanks Phil for posting this. Especially, since the ZD image is about as 180 from yours as possible. Guess you just turned a couple other people I know into even bigger non-stand up, coward-pussies for keeping their mouth krazy glued shut even though they have told me I am the most knowledgeable of all the candidates. (But if they say anything supportive, some of the big money snobs might turn their nose up in the air.)

I PUSH
I STAND UP
I DON'T TAKE NO
I FOLLOW THROUGH
I DON'T STOP

Say what you want snobby losers who are too scared to say what Phil just said, even though you say things like, "Does anyone know how hard you work/Does anyone know all the stuff you do."

Any of those people who give you grief over saying something nice about my efforts can show up to city hall every meeting for over a year and follow my footsteps.

THEY COULDN'T DO IT!

Thanks Phil for taking a stand, saying what you really feel, and not caring what a bunch snob-pussies have to say about it.

And you dummies...can you really call me a carpetbagger? I don't think that is gonna fly with people in reality? If that's what you got, good luck loser. You must support one of those people who cares so much about everything in the Valley that I have never seen them at City Hall, or at a nightime community meeting, or never read a blog post of theirs, or never heard them on the radio warning people...BUT NOW THEY CARE!

I need a new term for people who only care during a vacant election seat: Moneybaggers.

TO ALL YOU LAZY DO NOTHINGS WHO TURN YOUR NOSE UP IN THE AIR AT ZUMA DOGG...WHY DON'T YOU WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES AND DO EVERYTHING I DO OFF CAMERA BEHIND THE SCENES FOR CONSTITUENTS AND TURN YOUR NOSE UP TO ME THEN.

YOU WERE NOT THERE, YOU WERE SITTING ON YOUR ASS OR PLAYING GOLF LAST WEEK WHEN ZD GOT 4 COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO WERE REJECTED FOR PUBLIC COMMENT, THEN WOULDN'T BE SEEN BY THEIR COUNCILMEMBER, AN IMPROMPTU MEETING WITH THEIR COUNCILMEMBER WHERE THE ISSUE WAS RESOLVED.

The constituents were about to leave mad that they didn't get to speak on the item that already had public comment, and the CM told the constituent, "I'm not talking to you because you talk out against me."

I grabbed her and said, "Let's see him not talk to you when ZD asks him to speak to you."

The C.O.S. tried to deal with it. ZD wouldn't stand for it...minutes later the CM came over...spoke with the four people who came to city hall...the community members brought something to CM Huizar's attention that he wasn't aware of.

And the community members got to the bottom of it, and got the attention from Jose in the way they were looking for. (ZD helped BOTH sides, cause constituents left satisfied that they had REAL meaningful discussion with CM, and ZD prevented 4 people from leaving screaming to ZD about a re-call campaign.

ALL WHILE I WAS AWAITING MY OWN PUBLIC COMMENT. So you don't see that stuff on TV in between my televised public comments.

MOST PEOPLE SEE A FEW MINUTES A DAY OF WHAT I AM DO BEHIND THE SCENES ROUND THE CLOCK.

Those who say Zuma is carpetbagging are correct of course, but then what about the same people in CD2 who had no problem with Trutanuch driving up from San Pedro/ Long Beach in the South Bay where he's lived to claim to represent them?

All he had to do was say he was for anything Antonio was against, so it didn't matter how good a job Jack Weiss and his staff had actually done.

No one disputes that the area field deputies with Joan Pellico in charge were great and showed up at every meeting, handled constituent concerns better than any previous councilmember. But the development issues associated with Villaraigosa and all of City hall made that moot.

What those other clowncilmembers don't realize is that the election was about ALL of them, started with their anger over Measure B which Eric Garcetti was front man for. They all let Jack Weiss take the heat but he was just the symbol of everything they hated about City hall. If you look at his record he's one of the most moderate and was the only one strong enough to push for police expansion and to support Bratton.

Now with Greig Smith taking his place there's already a public battle people are commenting on here and Daily News. Everyone is now trying to show "how tough" they are against Antonio by going against Bratton, like Zine and Parks have done all along for their own reasons.

So it makes no sense to bash Chris Essel for moving over the hill to CD2 a mile away, or Krekorian from nearby Burbank. Still less to hate on Tamar who's lived there her whole life. This is all about electing ABA which frankly has its pros and cons. Con, they'd have a hard time getting support from the Mayor's office. Pro if you think that bucking City Hall at any cost is good. Effectiveness vs. making a point.

Regarding carpetbagging. Again, ask yourself, who will be creating the motions that you want to see? Imagine Zuma Dogg being able to create motions that I KNOW you will like. Would it matter if I was emailing them in from Agoura Hills, which is where I wish I really was.

If ZD was creating motions that he could get a guy like Zine/Smith/Parks/Rosendahl/KORETZ, yes...even HUIZAR to second, cause at one time or another each of those CMs may like the motion themselves...would you care if it was from Marina Del Rey or Studio City.

If I was able to repeal something that would save you a noticeable difference in your paypal account at the end of the month, would you care that it was even coming from Burbank or Sunset and Doheny.

I think ZD, as someone who has spoken with so many people from CD2, knows the area of CD2 (ARE YOU KIDDING ME...I admit I was never out to S-T until I became an activist, but the rest of CD2, I've seen it change over the past 15 years...don't worry. It's not some island that you had to live on. And again, first thing when ZD hit city hall over Venice issues, was he was pulled over by CD2 residents who felt the middle class were being screwed by council and lots of complaints about condo-conversions and Valley Village and Home Depot and other stuff that was always brought to my attention by community members.

How many times have I given public comment from Van Nuys? I DIDN'T SEE ANYONE FROM CD2 SHOWING UP TO VAN NUYS FROM PUBLIC COMMENT?

If the city is going bankrupt over $7 billion in shady pension investments...THAT MEANS YOUR DISTRICT IS GOING BANKRUPT AND YOU WILL FEEL THE HIT ALL ACROSS THE BOARD IN EVERY AREA.

I didn't see any councilmember, any member of the CD2 constituency itself, OR any of the candidates who care so much and know so much and can be of so much more help to the city and district as the $180,000 plus benefits councilmember show up and WARN ON TV, RADIO, BLOG OVER WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH THE LACERS MONEY.

REMEMBER HEARING ZD TALK ABOUT LACERS WHEN I DID MY LA WEEKLY ARTICLE ON GRAND AVE PROJECT. The part about the pension money got edited out cause it didn't seem important to the editor, although I thought it was so important, I ran with it on my own once the article came out.

I FELT IT WAS THE BIGGEST THING IN THE CITY...I SHOWED UP DAY AFTER DAY TO THE COUNCIL MEETING AND BLASTED MY CONCERN (based on follow up conversations with LACER commissioners and some insider tips)...AND CALLED FOR A FEDERAL INVESTIGATION.

LOOKS LIKE WE GOT ONE.

So again...when it comes to the big stuff...who cares if I was sleeping in my car at Sportsman's Lodge on my way to the councilmeeting and the No Home Depot meeting or Neighborhood Council meetings that I have attended, or whether it was the Mariott parking lot in MD Rey?

If I am calling for the end of wasteful spending citywide and will be creating motions that help the city, who cares what strip mall alley I was sleeping behind?

You either want to see ZD on the ballot or not loser. Don't spin. It never works. The voters see through it. Ask Ace Smith, lately.

O-M-G...GIVE IT UP LOSER! There is no lie to be caught up in.

Have the city charter rules changed if you do not like that only 30 days is required to live in a district before you run. It's based on voter registration information. If you have a problem, talk to the County Registrar's office and then change the Charter. Other than that, sorry.

If they didn't, more would turnout to vote.

I know that's tough for you to accept. What you say you do simply doesn't register with people. If it did, you'd be mayor today. You couldn't even beat Gordon Turner. Sucker.

ZDogg, you overestimate the value of what you say you do behind the scenes.

No, I do not overestimate the value. Maybe the strangers on the street who stop dead in their tracks to tell me how much they appreciate and value my efforts are overestimating.

I'm glad Frank got all his signatures already. Just because I am good at one thing (following agendas for 3 years and showing up to meetings, blasting council, raising awareness, fighting for people who can't show up every day; all the other committee and NC and planning and other meetings and all the time I spend on the phone and in the community...just cause I am good at that, and causing a citywide phenomenon of awareness raising and activism doesn't mean I made money over these past years owning a dispensary, so excuse me if I don't have money to throw at the situation.

But I DO want to be clear, cause as ZD is more and more burnt out from these past years of activism, when I "puff up" and stick up for myself and the energy I have put forth in comparison to others, remember, it is in context to the pro-candidates like Chris, Roger and Tamar. But also excuse me if I feel I am the most up to date, aware and up to speed on what is important amongst ALL the other candidates. I wonder if all of these candidates can even read an agenda item and know what it even says.

THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO ARE WAY SMARTER THAN ZD AND KNOW A HELL OF A LOT MORE THAN I AND MAY BE A MUCH BETTER COUNCIMEMBER THAN ZD.

BUT I AM TALKING AMONG THOSE WHO HAVE MADE A BIG SPLASH IN THE "I CARE NOW" DEPARTMENT WHO ARE PAYING PEOPLE GET SIGNATURES FOR THEM/PAYING THEM TO CARE.

I heard Chris Essel and the other candidates are reaching out to community members wanting to make the rounds to learn the area and meet the people.

IF YOU HAD BEEN DOING YOUR JOB AS A CONCERNED COMMUNITY MEMBER, YOU WOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THAT.

YOU WOULD ALREADY KNOW THE AREA AND WHAT IS IMPORTANT AND YOU WOULD ALREADY KNOW A LOT OF THESE PEOPLE!

So again, there are a lot of people who do a lot of good stuff behind the scenes and know more than ZD...AND THANK YOU TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE HELPED INFORM ME AND MENTOR AND TUTOR ME AND CATCH MY EAR WITH THIS STUFF!!!

But most of you aren't running. So it will be frustrating when the money candidates get on the ballot, and Zuma Dogg doesn't. And there will be no shame in it for me, cause I've created a citywide sensation as someone who stands up and fights with integrity and I can live my life inside a 24/7 "ZD Appreciation Day Parade" starting at 6am at Starbucks and ending at 2am with Karaoke last call anytime I put on the ski cap and glasses. And now, it's happening more and more even without the garb.

So again, just cause someone wants to join the math or science club, doesn't mean they can run a marathon first.

Just because someone can stand up and do what I just did in the way I just did it, with what I had to do it with...does not mean I have the money to pay someone to get signatures. And as someone who got 1000 signatures myself recently, just because I am the most innovative creative force most people have ever seen, does not mean I can get signatures in 100 degree heat. And I can't really ask or expect too many people to go out there and do it for me for free just because they care. Sorry, looks like the heat will be a dealbreaker that scorchers the real grass roots.
