I just posted on the other thread how much is this going to cost a city which is on the brink of bankruptcy? They need thousands of police officers, street services, dept of transportation, etc.
Who are the loser council morons who will be attending again on our dime? If they recess city council for this bullshit they are screwed. I bet idiots Parks and Perry who don't do any work anyway going because Perry's croonies Nation of Islam are the string pullers behind MJ camp.

A little slip of the hooded sheet this a.m., Mr. Grand Wizard?
An African American entertainer is being memorialized, so there's BOUND to be riots?
(Try talking your way back out of that one, Higby).
Try . . . (but you've been caught redneck-handed!)

11:08 is Mayor Sam's 5150 case.
Everyone should be able to recognize this if they've paid attention.
(...now going back to await the onslaught of vulgar language hitting the moderator board.)

Most people who even know what a "5150" is in police terminology . . . have been one at one time or another (and I don't mean they've been a cop.
Petra Fried in the City said:
Courtesy Wikipedia:
Section 5150 is a section of the California Welfare and Institutions Code (specifically, the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act or "LPS") which allows a qualified officer or clinician to involuntarily confine a person deemed to have a mental disorder that makes them a danger to him or her self, and/or others and/or gravely disabled. A qualified officer, which includes any California peace officer, as well as any specifically designated county clinician, can request the confinement after signing a written declaration. When used as a term, 5150 (pronounced "fifty-one-fifty") can informally refer to the person being confined or to the declaration itself.[1]

Nope he's right -- that's a nasty stereotype to pass along, Mayor Sam.
If you'll recall, during the 1992 riots, white, brown, and black people looted and did mayhem.
I hope you're not going to try and defend it by saying you meant "rioting like Laker's fans" (near Staples) because that would just be a silly defense.
Petra Fried in the City said:
And there is a high probability that 11:20 is also our MS 5150 case.
We have a clinical psychologist on staff where I do the work that actually pays me. I had a chat with same about Ms. 5150 and friends. The psych was concerned because of the amazing amount of energy poured into this game by our friend.
Once again, Ms. 5150, please consider professional help.

Those crying about the cost of the funeral - why don't you calculate how much revenue Michael Jackson generated for this city throughout his career. Concerts, sales, employees, plastic surgery. He more than paid his dues. Not to mention how much money will be generated by the thousands of fans from throughout the world that will drop everything to be here, in L.A.
Petra Fried in the City said:
Pardon the error - that should be clinical psychiatrist, not psychologist.

Higby is willing to post the silliness about "5150s" because it distracts from what seems like a very rational question.
Wasn't your reference to rioting, in relationship to a Black entertainer's funeral, use of a racial stereotype -- even an inadvertant one?
If not, what else could it be?
Maybe you want to think twice about leaving that part of the post up -- even if just a few people think it smacks of prejudicial attitudes.
Would you have said something like that if it was Paul McCartney's funeral -- or Garth Brooks?
Michael Higby said:
Michael Jackson is black?
Michael Higby said:
I don't think there would be a riot if there was a funeral for Garth Brooks or Paul McCartney because only old people would show up and old people generally don't riot.
Most of the people showing up to Michael's funeral will be young people and young people can go nuts in a situation like that.
It would probably be the same thing if it was Eminem's funeral at some arena in Minneapolis.

Will Mayor V pose with the body?

Forget about LAPD-- Let's get the Nation of Islam to provide the security-- MJ would've wanted it that way. I bet Villaraigosa's already getting one of his speech writers to write a suitable eulogy. And I bet he put in a call to Bill Rosendahl to try to borrow a sequined glove! Will the Mayor offer to "mentor" MJ's kids, like he offered to mentor that tagger "Zoner?" That would be so COOL!!!!

Jackson's peak was in the 1980s, Higby. His career started in the 1970s with the Jackson 5.
His core fans are in their 40s and 50s, at least.
His typical lifelong fan is older than those of Garth Brooks, who peaked in the 1990s.
Jackson recorded duets with Paul McCartney when PM was on teh upsurge of a second peak. They're also contemporaries in many ways.
Keep dancing, Grand Wizard, but try not to step on the bottom of your robes.
That last rhumba was SO lame!

To the idiot who insists "black, brown and white people rioted in 92" - no, it was a black riot, dummy. Whites like that Denny guy who were driving through, dragged out of their cars for being white and beaten left for dead, were VICTIMS.
If you refuse to understand reality and insist on changing it for your own PC purposes, you can't learn the lessons of the past.
It's not racist either to say Jan Perry has connections to the Farrakhan crowd, she does. They can actually do some good at times like this, saving the city money on security detail. No harm in using them to a point.
What IS funny is that Jan Perry is Jewish and the Jewish Journal notes that now there are "only two Jewish members on the council, Koretz and Jan Perry." HUH? Even Garcetti with his Jewish mother has played up being Jewish more than she has -- though he's a Christian it seems. (He LIKEs being all things to all people, playing to all ethnic demographics -- even his Italian-sounding name although his father was raised in Mexico.)

Agree with Higby and Petra. Jackson's fans tend to be too young to focus in on the numerous charges against him. Even CNN reported that the younger generation discovered Jackson as older folks shunned him. There is also the paparazzi factor here. I'd expect a riot if it were Britney Spears too.

THIS IS TO OFFICIALLY INFORM YOU THAT THE MAYOR SAM'S SISTER CITY BLOG HAS BEEN AWARDED THE "KLAVERN KEEPER" BLOG AWARD FOR THIS MONTH FOR THE BEST VEILED PRESENTATION OF RACIAL STEREOTYPES DEPICTING NEGROES AS BEING VIOLENT AND HARMFUL TO "REAL" AMERICANS.
Please advise us of where to e-mail the GIF file of the stylish white robe being carried through the sky by a team of doves, which you may proudly display on your opening pages until July 31.

Petra didn't say diddly squat about MJ's fans.
I will say that my father was a huge fan of Michael Jackson.

Much as I condemn what happened to him, Denny wasn't a victim. He was shouting racial slurs when attacked. But Higby is right. MJ attracted an anti establishment crowd, black brown and white, who resent the DA, police, state authority that tried to lock MJ up. The age of those fans, and their attitude toward government and police, is potential for a riot.

Dimbulb at 11:59 writes: "...no, it was a black riot, dummy."
But since at least one MS defender considers 'Wikipedia' a reliable source, let's see what the "dummy " knows. . .
Courtesy Wikipedia, re: 1992 L.A. riots.
"Many of the disturbances were concentrated in South Central Los Angeles, which was primarily composed of African-American and Hispanic residents. Approximately 51% of all riot arrestees and more than a third of those killed during the violence were Hispanic.[15][16]
11:59, it's time to pony up and buy a COLOR TV....
Anonymous said:
I've been watching the crowds gathering at Jackson family's home the past week - which is near my commute route.
The average age is nearly 40, easily. Very few even appear to be in their 20s, and none are teenagers. They are also are majority female.
That's not exactly the profile of rioters.

I am, too, whoever-you-might-be.
There's a lot of frustration with everything right now. Seems like no one has any good news anywhere, publicly or privately. Here we are all hanging out on a local politics blog where some of the worst "news" is concentrated. People are reacting. You can't not react to the cumulative stress if you're human. (no jokes about being human, pls.)
There's a lot of energy in anger. If we can channel that anger into something that betters our environment, then we win.
