Downtown News Jon Regardie does the City Attorney Race

Downtown News Jon Regardie Editor and "scribe of wit", muses from the middle , on Weiss vs. Trutanich in the City Attorney.
Some excerpts.
An interesting, if not the most accurate, indicator of who each is and how he operates may be gleaned by going to the source, and the websites for each pose some intriguing details.
At jackweiss.com (jackweissforcityattorney.com was cybersnatched and directs users instead to a Recall Jack Weiss site), the home page features one of the worst drawings in history, with an attorney, who kind of resembles Weiss if Weiss gobbled a dozen Amsterdam space cakes, speaking before a judge, who pretty much looks like a drunken Woodsy Owl. There is a sign in the drawing but the only word you can make out clearly looks like “Oppenheimer,” which brings to mind Robert Oppenheimer, inventor of the atomic bomb, and how this connection is supposed to indicate that Jack Weiss will be a good city attorney I have no idea.
Meanwhile, Trutanich’s website, tru09.com, begins with a flotilla of stale slogans (“True to his word,” “defend what is true,” etc.) which, mercifully, you can skip. While the site provides his bio and everything else you expect, it is also filled with anti-Weiss articles and links, and the “Issues” section lists five areas in which Weiss supposedly falls short. Not that the whole site is negative. Under the “Initiatives” tab is a section on “Animal Welfare & Protection,” where one learns important tidbits such as that, as a child, Trutanich had a bunny rabbit named Hoppy. There is also a picture of him hugging a beagle named Lucky. How this is supposed to indicate that Carmen Trutanich will be a good city attorney I have no idea.
Jon, you really didn't mean this about Rocky Delgadillo ??
If one thing makes it clear how bad the situation has gotten, it’s this: If whoever moves into the office on July 1 exhibits anything close to the panache they have displayed so far, then a year from now we’ll look back and consider the era of Rocky Delgadillo as the office’s golden age.
Your thoughts about Jon's musings......

More excerpts? You are excerpting the hell out of every media outlet! Can you possibly come up with some of your own, original ideas? I may be one of the few people who would like to know some of your own thoughts on subjects like this. The excerpts are getting tiring and repetitive. How about letting us know what you think instead of telling us what every other person out there thinks.

Some original responses.

First,a witty writer like Jon is deserving of some exposure considering that his body of work is publish only once a week.

Second, my "comment" that he "muses from the middle", is my opinion on the editorial direction of his column.

Third, using excerpts in a structure manner help to build the foundation for my thoughts on a given issue.

A example,

"I may be one of the few people who would like to know some of your own thoughts on subjects like this."

....and my opinion on the City Attorney Race is that the election of Jack Weiss would further the developement of a "machine of graft" that will ruin the city beyond what already has been done.

Your thoughts....

my thought is that if I wanted to read jon's article, I could just go to his company's website.

all you are doing is comenting about a commetator. to me that wears thin after doing it over and over and over on the same subject. if you are going to excerpt articles you might as well be brief like laobserved

Red Spot see how nice and simplified Roderick's post about In and Out is? Yours must be 100x longer and doesn't add anything about your opinion, which as I have said I would like to hear rather than a rambling run of nothingness. don't snap back at me for giving you a honest critique. at least i am one of the very few people who isn't telling u to shut up in so many ways. Roderick is a pro and it would be great if u at least made an attempt to organize ur thoughts. and who ev er said zuma is a fag is on to some thing. a man of his age should be married with kids to take care of instead of doing all of that nuttyness. and can u shed any light on why higby has been absent from class so much lately?

focus on the subject not the reporters! i can read them off of their own web sites which since i am sick today i have already done. so coming hear and seeing retreads is boring. how about u come up with subjects and opinions without retreading. observed does that but they keep it simple. may be u can just do some thing that is a more original stop please focusing on the reporters and more on the subjectwith ur own take on it. may be i am expecting too much and should just not bother any more with the blog but i do enjoy it when there is something new and original here. is that too much to ask? and i guess it is so

Where is Zuma Dogg these days? Anybody know? Is he really homeless? The Mayor Sam people should do a fundraiser for him. I really mean that. He is very funny.

1:22 and 1:25, aka "one in the same".

First, all is well with Higby. One must remember that we do this on our own volition. Thus paying the bills is cause number one.

The "Mar Vista Hill White Guy", I am not.

......and your comments about Zuma are not worthy of a response.

Looking at Weiss and Trutanich's websites, Trutanich clearly shows that he is a strategist with a vision and good organizational skills. The last word that comes to mind when I look at Wiess website is "transparency." Weiss site looks like it was put together by a novice when compared to Trutanich.

If you're undecided, it only takes watching one debate between Weiss and Trutanich to make the right choice for city attorney.

The last thing the city needs is an insider who will look the other way for his friends like Weiss would. Trutanich is a kick-ass mad dog. He pulls no punches.

Well, first of all this is a terrific site and well kept. Now then as a resident of the 5th District, there was a public safety issue 2 years ago that I wanted Jack's help with and his (musical chair) deputy found reasons not to help with hillside burglary. I wrote him an irate letter as a leader, and the people around me were angry that they were not consulted. I wound up backing off and not taking part in the recall movement, as my interest was local and seemed not political at the time. Since then I have decided that Mr. Weiss's campaign plays dirty and that Jack is an aloof dude with a sense of divine entitlement. He may win this race, but as a community activist, I am sure that winning for Jack is not winning for public service.
Now Carmen, on the other hand (I have had a few chats with him) is straight arrow and a practicing lawyer, which will be refreshing in the CA spot. Residents stand a chance of reducing billboard blight with him and he will play well with my old friend Jeff Carr, the gang czar.
The tough part here is getting past the campaign rhetoric and taking the leap of faith necessary to vote for Trutanich. I have done it...but I still don't really know anything about the real Jack Weiss.

If I am sitting by a pool, blogging would be the least of my concerns.

Too bad your pool side is lacking visual simulation or diversion, but then there is virtual reality, (ie. internet porn).

I'm told that the references to animals on Trutanich's site appeal to the vocal and powerful animal advocates. Trutanich's appeal is that he is a straight speaking non-L.A. City Hall insider.

It was actually nice of Jon not to mention the fact that Jack Weiss is reaching a boarding-house arm right across the Mayor's space in order to touch the basketball of an apparently startled coach of something or other. I'm sure this will snag him any stray votes that that quickdraw courtroom sketch showing how Weiss brought the fathers of the atom bomb to justice doesn't.

I don't know why people here are so bitchy and rude.
I appreciate your articles and think they are interesting and/or informative for the most part.

I wish those bitchy/rude/crude people would summit articles that are better if they think yours are so deficient.

Thanks for your effort Red Spot.

fatso, why don't you come on here and swear on your daddy's life that you're not 6:35pm? put it in writing and swear on daddy's life. personally you did this once after discussing something with me, and it was practically a xerox of what you wrote at 6:35pm. fatso. put the burger down and swear on daddy's life.

I didn't know that in higby's world, cute means greasy & obese. die you pig.

Highby doesn't need to swear on anything, much less his daddy's life.

I am 6:35 and a mom in CD 14 and my name is not Higby. And you are someone with some serious issues.

You owe Higby an apology.

Trutanich's people are really desperate and trying to skew polls again as usual to give a false impression.

BEFORE this article was linked here on M S, he had less than 15 votes while Weiss had almost the same he does now. NOW in less than one day miraculously Trutanich has almost 100 because some reader from this blog is clicking as fast as he can logging on and off.

Doesn't fool anyone. The REAL poll had Weiss almost 3:1 and even if the rest of the city kicks in will be at least way over half.
Skewing a poll is just ridiculous.

To date, no Weiss supporter has responded.
