BREAKING NEWS: Garcetti to Announce for Governor
EXCLUSIVE: Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti will join a crowded pack of candidates Wednesday for the Democratic nomination for Governor of California. Also widely expected to run are Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, former Governor and current Attorney General Jerry Brown, Lt. Governor John Garamendi and, some speculate, Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Sources tell us Garcetti will announce his candidacy on the steps of Los Angeles City Hall with his domestic partner Amy Wakeland, father and former District Attorney Gil Garcetti and several other relatives, friends and supporters.
Garcetti intends to highlight his experience of several years on the City Council and his service as a Navy Seal. If elected Garcetti would be the youngest Governor of California elected since Brown's first term in 1974.
(If you haven't figured it out, April Fool!)

Gee, Higby.
You lay around all day and I expect a more clever AFD post from you.
The Jan Perry and Janice Hahn post are about as clever as cheese. You spent, maybe, 5 minutes on that idea?

I like Garcetti. To the haters at least he's done some great things in his district and LISTENS AND ATTENDS their meetings. This is going to be good campaign. The motto throughout Los Angeles is anyone but Villaraigosa

Glad that is just (hopeully) an April Fools joke. It is a scary thought. Imagine him running amuck on density bonuses statewide. To bad term limits allowed him to run again.

Yes, that would be delusional. Eric has presided over a shameful time of grotesque overdevelopment -- much of which he (ever so nicely with a forced smile) RAMMED through the City Council for his rich developer friends.
Eric suffers from the Marie Antoinette syndrome: let all the peons living in Hollywood circle endlessly looking for a parking space while he putters into his little Echo Park "estate". Plenty of parking at Eric's! His "elegant density" theory that people will abandon their cars to ride the transit system is pure delusion.
Snap out of it!

Higby,
I think you only have the date wrong.
I am certain Garcetti will run for Mayor in 2013.
Most probably, others will include Laura Chick and Rick Caruso.
I might give it another shot myself, but it depends on what happens between now and then.
Garcetti would have a good chance to win.
Who knows...maybe someday he will run for Governor. I just hope he renounces Socialism before then.

Glad this is an April Fools joke, imagine if he was able to unlease bonus density every where completely unrestrained. It is a pretty scary thought. But interesting that an unknown opponet did so well in the last election with almost no money.

Phil, they're talking about GOVERNOR, not MAYOR.
Are you telling us that you've run for GOVERNOR, too? You wrote "again" so I assume you know the difference.
And why don't you put yourself out on a limb? Suggesting that Laura Chick and Rick Caruso might win, what a novel idea you dope.
Until then, you might want to post your resume, assuming you've ever held a job, on monster.com and careerbuilder.ocm.

A couple of years ago, the April Fools posts all over the internet were mildly funny. Now they have just become annoying. I think the bloggers need to grow up and realize if they are to be taken seriously they need to act more responsibly. I don't remember any legitimate newspapers ever printing "fake" reports.

Sorry Mayor Sam I wasn't clear in my comments. I should have written:
I don't remember any legitimate newspapers ever printing "fake" reports when newspapers still had any credibility.

What would Zuma Doog's dumbed-down Demming persona say about wasting time on April Fool's jokes.
(BTW, the real "beauty" of AFD is supposed to be that your "tricks" are clever enough and grain-of-truth enough to actually make people think twice.)
And, WHAT... no "jokes" about Britney, Lindsay, or any other coked-out performer half your age that you're blog-stalking? Whatsamatta Higby, did they return your love letters unopened, again?

Don't belief false hope promises from councilmembers on April 1st. Zuma Dogg just got REALLY burnt by one of them, and now the pressure in my head is off the hook from this and my brain hurts. I hope it's Natashia Ricahrdson syndrome. I don't even know why anyone would waste ONE SECOND talking to any of those irresponsible do-nothings.

Hey Higby, I've scourred the LA Times, and they don't mention anything about Eric Garcetti announcing his run for Governor? What gives?

What you forgot is that Meg Whitman (R), and Edie Bukewihge (D) are actually the longshots that are going to make this election very interesting. All those people you have listed are like not at all going to be winners in this state, and no way will we ever elect a Latino to the office of governor in California, not Tony. He is part of the Mexican Clan that believes California belongs to Mexico. Are we into treason these days? LA was stupid, the rest of the state has a brain.

donquixote April 1st, 2009 | 12:17 pm Que Verguenza Chavo!
You hit the nail on proverbial head with this post, as many language’s as we in LA are confronted with why is it that the Spanish language seems to send the xenophobes and nativists into a Gran Mal seizure.
The Spanish language that was here from the beginning of Los Angeles and what is now the western USA, and sends the racist xenophobes like the Walter Moore’s and Lou Dobbs into a double foam at the mouth.
Below is a typical example of this reaction, I copied it from the “Mayor Sam” blog that showcases xenophobes and people such as Moore.
The idea that the Mayor of Los Angeles spoke to some students in Spanish begot this phobic reaction, it cracked me up because it is so typical of the xenophobia Spanish causes the victim to suffer.
Pobrecito’s, que lastima!

To the cholo/leftist idiot 11:17PM: How can you say Spanish is just as important as English here IN AN AMERICAN CITY?? Ah, Spanish– the language of crime!! Arrogance and ignorance– that’s some heritage to be proud of, alright.
Rita Of Sunland/Wally Wharton said…
Boy, that tape made me sick. Especially when he’s speaking Spanish to the kids in that computer give-a-way sequence. Doesn’t he think it’s imperative they learn English? I guess not! With Tony it’s just all about the Mexicans, everything’s gotta be for the Mexicans, or he could care less.

Thanks to the L.A. Times, for allowing Mr. David Zaniser to exercise the Freedom of the Press, and informing the public regarding Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti covering up the PA Consulting report regarding Measure B.
“Nine council members said Friday that they did not receive the Nov. 4 analysis before they agreed to put the solar measure on the ballot. The analysis, issued three days before the vote, warned that the Department of Water and Power had underestimated the cost of the program, lacked the ability to carry it out and could saddle ratepayers with higher electricity bills.”
