Van Nuys Residents Seek Re-Branding Effort

Who cares they're always changing corporation names"

Here in Van Nuys ports over a piece from WWG's blog about the battle waged by some residents in Van Nuys that want to be Sherman Oaks. Trouble is that neither Van Nuys wants to let them go nor does Sherman Oaks want to take them. Best line comes from Daily News writer and area resident Steve Rosenberg who says the motivation of the efforts' backers are to be able to maximize value by selling their Van Nuys bought homes at Sherman Oaks prices. Who's allegedly behind the effort? Wacky loony (not to be confused with "Wacko's Loon") Laurette Healey, the driving spokes-force behind the last two bamboozling failed solar ballot measures.
You can check out the insurgents web site and blog here. You would think they could use their time to more effectively actually attacking the issues and bettering their neighborhood than wasting time on a silly, elitist and racially tinged rebranding effort.

Wow, Daddy Issues-Spinoza is the first to comment on almost every post today.
Love me daddy
Hug me daddy
She's so distracting that I forgot what I wanted to write, so I guess I will just reiterate the fact that anyone who uses their middle name is either a mass murderer or has daddy issues.

If everything becomes "Sherman Oaks," what value will Sherman Oaks have?

What's so great about Sherman Oaks?

And what the hell is a daddy issue? I don't even know what you're talking about.

I still call Valley Village it's real name, North Hollywood. And I always will.

I moved here to West Van Nuys/East Encino (that's what we all called it) and we still call it that and not Lake Balboa. The only lake we call Balboa is the one in the park with the paddleboats. That's the only Lake Balboa around here.

I haven't seen that movie in soooo long! I have to find out if I can rent it. My daughter would get a kick out of it. Gag me with a spoon! too funny.

Like everything else in LA, even Lake Balboa (or is it Balboa Lake?) is fake.
Designer communities.
Go figure.

The new process through which names are changed is so difficult that this may never happen. Next issue!

I don't think it's any sillier than renaming it "Lake Balboa".
If the folks in that area of Van Nuys could do it, then why not these?
Michael Higby said:
10:09 that is good to hear. Previously any group of wackos who could be loud enough would get the Council to change it, despite what the people who are too busy working and living their lives thought.

Well actually Ugly American, it is very different than Van Nuys naming a part of itself, Lake Balboa. At least they had boundaries they could form and break away from Van Nuys and become their OWN area.
In Van Nuys, they just want to take a small part of Van Nuys and glom on to Sherman Oaks. Uninvited, unwanted, snobby bores who want to be able to say they live in Sherman Oaks. Greedy people who think their property values might increase.
Losers - it's still just Van Nuys, but it is adjacent to Sherman Oaks.
I think you might have to live with that.
It could be fun just to find some and then join up with some snobby Sherman Oaks residents and we can fight the Van Nuys people, like they can shudder at the thought of those low-life Van Nuys people trying to pretend they're part of Sherman Oaks.
So why didn't that group just go name themselves something like, Van Oaks Square or Sherman Nuys Center. But don't try to join a neighborhood who isn't looking to expand...

Changing the Name of a community doesn't change the quality of the people only the value of the property....for awhile.

The person going by "Anonymous" seems to have alot of misplaced vitriol toward the Part of Sherman Oaks movement. Why? Have any of the members of this movement offended you, or are harming you in any way?
It is worth noting that the Sherman Oaks community immediately to the South of the affected name change area also support this name change.

HI Michael. Thank you once again for your respectful and conscientious treatment of policy issues so important to so many Angelenos on your site. I am flattered that you posture that failure of Proposition 7 which proposed to to set a higher standard for renewable energy in this State as "wacko". Could the failure of Proposition 7 have had anything to do with the $35 million that was poured into defeating this proposition by every energy utility giant in this State have anything to do with it? As for the other "wacko" proposition on the March Ballot - Measure B which sought to create jobs in this City by installing solar panels on the rooftops of commercial buildings throughout LA so as to light up our City with clean energy have anything to do with the support of Brian D'Arcy and the Electrical Workers Union as well as David Nahai, General Manager of DWP? I am truly flattered that you attribute my support of these two important environmental ballot measures as the central reason they did not prevail at the ballot box.
It is fair to disagree on policy and propositions but I would hardly call propositions that squarely address the seriousness of global warming wacko.
As for the name change application, I suggest that you take a look at the website PartofShermanOaks.org and get back to me on that one. I will really enjoy discussing this with you - openly. It will be interesting to see if you will actually post my comments.

Postscript: Calling Ms. Healey "wacko" does nothing create an incendiary and sensationalist tone to your blog, and serves no purpose other than to identify that you have some vendetta against this person.
Whatever point you wanted to make in your blog, character assasination is not the way.
PS-- if you're going to be incendiary, at least have the guts to identify yourself, author.

In a recent overwhelmingly positive vote by its government affairs committee and then the board of directors, the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce has announced support of the petition and renaming efforts of the "Part of Sherman Oaks" group.

Laurette Healey-you are totally a wacko. If this succession doesn't work, will you try to succeed your house from the neighborhood?
The residents of this area should be more concerned with improving the area rather than trying to rename it.
