Mayor Sam's Hotsheet for Monday
A group of bicycle activists staged an action in Hollywood Saturday night to protest for their rights. In the meantime though a Twitterer found several bicyclists stocking up on libations at a nearby CVS drug store.
Zach at LAist reports that two same-sex marriage measures are in the works for the California 2010 ballot. One would resincd Proposition 8; the other would replace all marriage, gay and straight, with domestic partnership.
My friend and occasional Mayor Sam blogger Edward Headington doesn't get why Measure B failed. Ed says "I am still a little surpised that Measure B did not pass given the green mood of the populace." We are all for green solutions but what Ed may have missed is that the angry mood of the populace was stronger on B than the green mood.
L:A Dodgers' owner Frank McCourt says he's not planning to provide funding for shuttle buses to Dodger Stadium. CurbedLA reports McCourt commenting "But it's a few buses. We need robust, muscular public transit for Dodger Stadium to be a vibrant place. But that applies to the whole city, doesn't it?"
It appears most of our readers who spoke up wouldn't shed a tear if newspapers went the way of the dinosaurs. James Rainey writing in the LA Times contends that were local papers to die it would give a blank check to local politicians to be shady with the fishwraps no longer watching them. That would however presume rags like The Times were actually covering municipal politics to begin with.
Speaking of dying fishwraps here's an ironic tale. Though newspaper subscriptions are way down someone is posing as a door to door Daily News salesman as a ruse to rob the place.

Sara "Daddy Issues" Spinosa need to take a course in how to make posts interesting.
I refer to her as "Daddy Issues" because women who use their middle names have daddy issues.
In men, they're usually serial killers or mass murderers. (e.g. Mark David Chapman, John Wayne Gacy, Lee Harvey Oswald)
While waiting for my last subscription to the LAT rag to run out, I've noticed something interesting.
Over the last few months, there have been ads and phone solicitation annual specials. They have been for under $100 for 7 day delivery and under $40 for 4 day delivery.
Now their "specials" have doubled.
Since they are in bankruptcy, what happens to all the fools that subscribed recently and the money they paid to LAT if they go belly up?
There is no reason to be puzzled about Meaure B failing. It was dishonestly created and promoted. It was incomplete and biased toward the union as Mayor Tony admitted he gave in to the job program terms and exclusive rights for installation in order to get the IBEW to buy into it. Everything in years before was rejected, but IBEW found it's price that TONY paid- at consumer's expense.
All that was hidden; they didn't have accurate cost figures and could not guarantee, only "guess."
On top of that, the charter amendment that was included would give the Mayor a free hand to approve cost increases, bypassing current checks and balances.
It was crooked, done by crooks. Do a proper measure and it will be considered. This was a noose to hang ourselves, like props. S and R did for L.A.
AND DODGERS' Owner McCourt- such a tightwad, just will exploit government to make more money- what else is new.
City Council will accommodate him to spend more money. McCourt collects money hand-over-fist and that parking at $15 for cars is too good to him to jeopardize.
FANS COME LAST TO HIM- The city DOE NOT have to support the Dodgers, but they suck up to them by spending money they don't have for a private enterprise to make more money.
That should stop. If Dodgers want more fans, then DO something to get them there. The city should not make up the difference UNLESS IT DOES THE SAME FOR OTHER BUSINESS OWNERS.
Instead OTHER BUSINESSES, the smaller ones, mainly, get burned by parking meter impact ($1/hr. or more) HURTING business instead of helping - thanks council, who made the deficit that caused the meter-rate-hike gouge (and if a shuttle is PAID FOR AGAIN this year BY TAXPAYERS, the deficit will be even WORSE).

Steve Hymon is out at the times, from Roderick. A real shame -- first his Bottleneck blog, the best thing of its kind, now him. He was a long-time Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who smelled B. S. when he reported from city hall. Now the newbies can't tell a press release from fact and the new crop of candidates from nowhere aren't being vetted, spread their own lies and squeak by on an "anyone but the experienced politician" line. My grandmother could run claiming she was the queen of Turkeminstan and no one would know until it's too late that she's the queen of nothing but her kitchen.
Sometimes that's fatal -- the devil you know may be better than the one you don't who tells lies, and lie convincingly to the newbies who like the "passion" and "vision" and you don't find out until it's too late. Blogs including this one may be fun to use but they're not exactly objective or reliable.
Thanks for mentioning MH. Point well taken. I saw Stephen Box and Ron Kaye in action and they were very compelling--at a green salon and VICA, respectively. I just thought the measure would still pass--despite the negatives and/or concerns.
The opposition didn't really have much in way of a budget and green has some much buzz these days. My bet was on its passage but you live and learn.
