Jimmah Vu All Over Again

Democrats are trying to make that case that John McCain would be the third term of George Bush. But its more likely that Barack Obama would be serving the second term of Jimmy Carter.

Party like it's 1976!

Many of you who read this blog don't remember President Jimmy Carter and the massive damage his economic and foreign affairs policies caused this nation. Everything from having to wait in line to buy gas to Americans being held hostage by a foreign government for 444 days.

Carter promised the people a lot of goodies and just like Obama, he promised cash from the IRS. Many folks were looking forward to that check but Carter soon found out he couldn't do it.

This is an important video that looks back at the Carter days. No cute songs, no silly names for Obama, no lies about his personal life. Just a clear view of Obama in his own words compared to what happened in the Carter years.

Obama's platform isn't much different than Carter's. We've been there before.

Here's a few more reminders of what happened under Jimmy Carter.

* During the Carter Administration the inflation rate climbed higher each year he was in office, rising from 6 percent in 1976 to more than 12 percent by 1980

* the unemployment rate remained high at 7.5 percent

* interest rates reached a high of 20 percent or more twice during 1980

Based on five polls, U.S. News and World Report puts Carter at 11th worst prez. Hoover and Nixon tied for 9th. James Buchanan took the #1 slot with Harding at #2. About Harding: "He was an ineffectual and indecisive leader who played poker while his friends plundered the U.S. treasury."

Umm... Obama is black and Carter is white. That's all I need to know to understand that Obama is not Carter, even though he may eventually become a lot like him.

On the other hand, McCain sold out so obviously that it's pretty obvious that he will become Bush.

The devil you (think you) know, Michael?

Jimmy Carter was president from 1977 to 1981, I graduated college in 1978 with my technical degree. Jobs were easy to find and paid well, I remember sitting at work and having "head-hunters" employment recruiters calling me on the phone offering me jobs at a higher pay on a regular basis.

In the Carter years college tuiton was about $60.00per quarter at most state colleges, I worked part-time in a technical field and was able to pay for college and support myself and only had a small student loan of $3,000 for 4 years of college.

After two years of working full-time I was able to save enough money to buy a home at a decent interset rate by assuming an existing home loan. I also had two cars a 1980 Datsun 280ZX and a 1978Honda Accord even had a small trailer for my off-road motorcycle.

Higby's comment about the long gas lines is totaly over-blown I have never waited in long lines for gasoline at any time in my line.

Gasoline was about 60-70 cents a gallon back in the Carter years which was cheaper (yes adjusted for inflation and today's salaries)than recent + $4.00 a gallon prices.

I'll bet most of today's recent college graduates wish they had the life I had back in the Jimmy Carter days. I wish my kids had the economic advantages and fun times I had right after graduating college in the Jimmy Carter days.

What's the difference that Carter was white and Obama is black? That has no bearing on their platforms.

And honestly you could probably argue that Carter has more experience with African American culture than Obama, having grown up in the Deep South during segregation whereas Obama grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii in the 60s and 70s.

You are correct that college in California once was affordable. That's because the state didn't have the huge burden of providing expanded social programs for an increasing percentage of the population (I'm not arguing whether that piece is bad or good, it's just the reality).

All of your tuition increases in the last 25-30 years have been passed by Democrats. And they will cause further increases by exempting illegal aliens from out-of-state tuition.

One last point...

It's telling that Obama restricted Carter at the DNC only to a short video about his work with Habitat for Humanity and a non-speaking 30 second appearance on stage.

I suppose Obama did not want to get tainted with Carter's anti-Israel, pro-Hamas/PLO stance.

Begs the question, "How much time SHOULD the DNC have given a one-term president from 30 years ago?"

At least as much as they gave that gasbag Ted Kennedy who is partially responsible for Carter's loss to Reagan.
