Obama Leads McCain 52-43%!

A new Washington Post-ABC News Poll released just after midnight shows Sen. Obama taking a commanding 9 point lead over Sen. McCain. The latest LA Times-Bloomberg poll is scheduled to be released around 2pm today.

This Just in! McCain pulls out of Friday's debate due to "economic crisis"(?).

MCCAIN JUST BAILED ON THE DEBATE FOR TOMORROW. OF COURSE HE'S GOING TO USE THE EXCUSE OF BAILOUT.

....Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington after speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative. I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me.

I am calling on the President to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself. It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.

From the Republican Party platform adopted last month:

"We do not support government bailouts of private institutions. Government interference in the markets exacerbates problems in the marketplace and causes the free market to take longer to correct itself."

Does that mean that Bush and McSame will stick with that, or render the whole platform useless when polticial expediency cries out for flipflops?

Or does it mean that the Republicans had absolutely no clue as to what was about to happen, and had no plan to react to it when it happened?

Oh sure, I want 4 more years of this!

It's not much, but by combining cell phone and landline numbers, Obama gets a couple extra points.

Conservative syndicated columnist George Will argues today, in an piece titled "McCain Loses His Head," that John McCain is not ready for the presidency.

He cites McCain childish and irresponsible reaction to the financial crisis.

"It is arguable that, because of his inexperience, Obama is not ready for the presidency. It is arguable that McCain, because of his boiling moralism and bottomless reservoir of certitudes, is not suited to the presidency. Unreadiness can be corrected, although perhaps at great cost, by experience. Can a dismaying temperament be fixed?"

Channeling his inner Queen of Hearts, John McCain furiously, and apparently without even looking around at facts, said Chris Cox, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, should be decapitated. This childish reflex provoked the Wall Street Journal to editorialize that "McCain untethered" -- disconnected from knowledge and principle -- had made a "false and deeply unfair" attack on Cox that was "unpresidential" and demonstrated that McCain "doesn't understand what's happening on Wall Street any better than Barack Obama does."

Ha Ha. The theatrics continue:

from teh wonkette:

DEBATEGATE, LULZ, HA: “Organizers said Wednesday they were going ahead as planned with the first 2008 US presidential debate, despite Republican John McCain’s call to postpone the event in the face of the Wall Street crisis. ‘We have been notified by the Commission on Presidential Debates that we are proceeding as scheduled,’ said the University of Mississippi, which was to host Friday’s encounter between McCain and Democrat Barack Obama.” Seems like McCain knew they wouldn’t cancel this. He just wanted a few Maverick headlines, like back in the old days when he was a Star. It’s funny because no one cares, at all. Ha ha, his favorite President George Bush is speaking on teevee tonight, too.

1:43 and 1:44. I would expect that any U.S. president should be able to handle more than one project at a time. Since he's admittedly too stupid to deal with economic issues, he certainly isn't going to be a help to anyone on that issue, so why not do the debate?

Oh, I know. Because the economic crisis is certain to be raised during the debate and he is still either clueless or afraid to take a position.

George Will is right: A patheic choice between an inexperienced smooth talker of nothings who got picked over Hillary and Biden and Dodd and all the old white guys and gals of his party because of his DNA, and an old hot-tempered guy whose war wounds make him unable to even bend or exercise, so he's older than his years and we know that body and mind are more connected than many in the West have realized. If one atrophies, so does the other.

there's something fundamentally wrong with the American system, that selects the most mediocre egotists who are just willing and able to withstand the too long, too grueling, election process.

Obama can't hold up Bill Clinton's pants if he were a belt, let alone take his place in the world. Note how Bill is pointedly absent from the big-eared little egotist's campaign, off in Africa doing his charity work. (Sort of like Cindy McCain much of the time -- maybe these two should have run instead. Cindy's more qualified than Palin any day, and has certainly traveled the world.)

We should do like the Brits, get it all over with in 6 weeks, having everyone debate and watch the process of elimination as the weeks go on.

David Letterman tells audience that McCain called him today to tell him he had to rush back to DC to deal with the economy.

Then in the middle of the taping Dave got word that McCain was, in fact just down the street being interviewed by Katie Couric. Dave even cut over to the live video of the interview, and said, "Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?"

Earlier in the show, Dave kept saying, "You don't suspend your campaign. This doesn't smell right. This isn't the way a tested hero behaves." And he joked: "I think someone's putting something in his metamucil."

"He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second string quarterback, Sara Palin. Where is she?"

"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"

MCAIN DOESN'T WANT PALIN TO DEBATE SO THIS CANCELING WITH OBAMA IS A HOAX

CNN.com..September 24, 2008
McCain camp to propose postponing VP debate... Biden and Palin are set to debate October 2.

(CNN) — McCain supporter Sen. Lindsey Graham tells CNN the McCain campaign is proposing to the Presidential Debate Commission and the Obama camp that if there's no bailout deal by Friday, the first presidential debate should take the place of the VP debate, currently20scheduled for next Thursday, October 2 in St. Louis.
In this scenario, the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin would be rescheduled for a date yet to be determined, and take place in Oxford, Mississippi, currently slated to be the site of the first presidential faceoff this Friday.
Graham says the McCain camp is well aware of the position of the Obama campaign and the debate commission that the debate should go on as planned — but both he and another senior McCain adviser insist the Republican nominee will not go to the debate Friday if there's no deal on the bailout.

1. Presidents are expected to handle many things at a time.

2. He told everyone that he doesn't know squat about economics.

Instead, it will be viewed a cowardess.

The challenge came, and he turned his back and ran.

It might be different if he could come up with a solution to the economic crisis, but he won't.

He'll be left with trying to say that he worked behind the scenes to solve the problem, take credit for everyone else's work, and then have to live with the shame of hiding from the debates.

A more scientific poll shows Obama leading 55% to 44% nationally, but also shows firm electoral votes for Obama at 193 and McCain at 189.

Personally, I believe this election is so close that there might be a 269 to 269 tied electoral vote.
