After all for the last couple of months the exploits of your union leadership and the resulting exploitation of members dues, have rekindle the investigated journalistic creed at the "OLD GRAY HAG ON SPRING STREET" and up our hits here at Mayor Sam.
But most important for a city in need of democratic reforms, your leaders follies may help release organize labor's "strangle hold" on City Hall and County Government.
"Brother Andy", your principle that "bigger is better", that being in your restructuring of SEIU locals into "super locals" has brought you these returns locally.
*Tyrone Freeman of SEIU 6434 diverted dues money to non-profits run by family members.
**Arnelle Grajeda, Leader of "Super Local 721" is placed on admin. leave due to questions about money given to "sancho".
***Julie Butcher, former General Manager of SEIU 347 and now in charge of LA and Orange County Cities under 721, renews attempt to take over EAA membership, which could have national implications in the area of inter-union relations.
But there is one person not pictured here who's political aspirations in the short term could be the first to suffer in this growing scandal. Wonder who Mark???

Julie Butcher's never seen a fight she didn't want to pick, whether it was justified or not. She's probably in exactly the right business, making trouble even where there's no need to do it.

It's too hard to choose; how about "All of the above"?
SEIU could have a good chance to take over the representation of EEA's employees. A few years, it was felt by many that SEIU got more than enough votes needed. But before the vote counts were released, EEA filed protests.
Before those could all be resolved, it was discovered that Laura Chick released confidential documents to SEIU, so SEIU gave up the fight.
It's EAA (Engineers and Architects Association) not EEA.
So yes, SEIU might have a good chance of taking over EEA, but there's no reason to believe SEIU will be successful in its most recent raid of EAA.
It's a shame that SEIU, who claims to be party of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, thinks its okay to go after another union's membership when that union (EAA) also belongs to the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.
That's not organizing, that's raiding.
The process is designed to give the employees an opportunity to find different or better union representation. So don't think of it as a hostile takeover by union officials who can succeed without the support of the employees. The EAA employees were tired of seeing the SEIU employees getting better packages.

When Unions go after one another, management wins.
If there was true solidarity from SEIU, it would have honored EAA's picket lines in 2006. SEIU did not.
If you subtract the added cost of SEIU's 1.25% dues, without even factoring in the give backs and other concessions SEIU made, EAA's contracts are better for EAA's current members.
The true test will come next year when SEIU 721's window of decertification opens and EAA decides whether or not to offer .5% dues rate to those disenchanted with SEIU's focus on gathering political clout over workers' contracts.

SEIU 721 dues are 1.5%, not 1.25%
Is this is the same union that apparently has been representing temporary workers (i.e. taking 1.5% of their gross as dues) at the County, some of them working as temps for decades, without ever taking action to get them permanent employment with retirement? That is just wrong.
Raiding is wrong. Period. Interfering in the internal affairs of other unions, is wrong. There is something wrong when over 85% of the American workforce is unorganized and the unions engage in union cannibalism.
Why would city employees want to flock over to a union that just had its President step aside for investigation of corruption? If I were these "dissatisfied employees" I would explore an affiliation agreement with an emergency off ramp, before out right commitment. A corporate union is not exactly an improvement. But I guess the lesser of two evils is not much of a choice anyway, huh?
