Show Me The Money!
Hillary Clinton wages one of the toughest primary battles in recent history and even after the numbers begin to show the Writing on the Wall, The Inevitable Outcome, The Way Things Are... homegirl still won't do the right thing and step aside -- nah, instead she racks up millions more in debt, and now she wants Obama supporters to help her pay it off?
Is she on crack?
The New York Times reports today that a top Obama donor sent an e-mail to other Obama donors practically begging them to help Clinton out of the financial hole she has dug herself into (an estimated $12 million, plus another $11 million of personal money she lent her campaign). Apparently, the Obama faithful are having a hard time reconciling this concept.
The Times was unable to print some of the responses, but managed to find these few comments that weren't expletive laced:
“Why would I help pay off debts that Hillary amassed simply to keep damaging Senator Obama?”
“Gas prices are up, the markets are in turmoil, my kid’s fall tuition bill is coming soon. Writing checks to politicians I don’t like is not at the top of my list.”
“Not a penny for that woman. Or her husband. Or — god forbid — Mark Penn,”
Of course, in any family where there are money issues, sooner or later the finer nuances of each member's character and personality begin to become more transparent as money becomes the issue. Hillary, it seems, might not be as grateful as she should for whatever money the Obama people are able to raise for her. Again, from the Times:
Mr. Obama has asked his top donors to help raise money for her debt, and so far they have come up with less than $100,000 (though more in pledges), Clinton campaign officials said — a “paltry sum,” in the words of one.
While no other presidential candidate has ever amassed so much personal and campaign debt en route to losing the nomination as has Mrs. Clinton, both Clinton and Obama donors say the larger problem for Democrats is that if the Obama camp is seen as unhelpful, Mrs. Clinton, her husband and their supporters could prove something less than a force for unity.
Among the complaints from Obama campaign officials is that Mrs. Clinton’s expectation for help has been a moving target; in other words, it is unclear how much money from Obama supporters will be enough to satisfy the Clintons. Even Clinton officials and donors were at a loss to specify a number, saying only that Mrs. Clinton was helping Mr. Obama with the understanding that he would do more for her.Clinton donors and campaign officials say they remain surprised — and, among some, offended [offended? really? now that's rich! --vd]— that Mr. Obama has refused to ask his entire list of donors, more than 1.5 million people, to send $5, $10 or more to chip away at Mrs. Clinton’s debt. (Obama officials said they did not want to distract their donors for the main task at hand, raising money to defeat Mr. McCain.)
As much as I'd love to help ya out, Hill -- I've promised my fiancial support (such as it is; a fin here, a fin there) to help get the party candidate into the White House. And like many of the small-time donors you'd like to help bail you out... we're broke as a joke and we've had to get by and find ways to pay off our own debts. I think it's time you learned to do the same.

How can I send Hillary my 2 cents, without having to waste money on a postage stamp?

She hung in there as long as possible because she knows that Obama cannot possibly win. Those of you who think he can win are smoking too much weed.
He cannot and will not win. From a Clinton supporter who will never vote for Obama

Millions of Clinton supporters won't vote for Obot unless she orders them to -- it will be a big embarrassment to him to have so many switch to McCain instead of him.
It was the Obot camp who smeared the Clintons with racist tags, and ruined the reputation of Ferraro for telling the truth, that the real reason Obot's got the Dem party elite's support is, he's the Flavor of the Month -- it's more fashionable to go with a younger bi-racial male than a white female. But her supporters who'd been waiting a lifetime for this, didn't appreciate the smear campaign.
And Obot's taking ALL Hillary's positions as he's now running for the election, and not trying to just pander to the left & illegals in order to undercut her vote. She always said what she meant and meant what she said -- like she's said, she's learned what's possible isn't always what's a good, empty soundbite, and Obot's already taking that page.
She and Bill can earn that money somehow, but if Obots don't help with it, they'll lose the election. Which they might anyway. The left is disappointing with his backing out of many positions already, while the right never like him and the moderates are a swing vote. A lot of Obots are as filled with themselves as he is, and don't see how marginal they are.

The answer to these concerns are that this politics. The goal of the Democrats is to win the White House. Continuing to fight among themselves isn't going to get the job done. It's time to unify, and keep focused on the goal.

2:16 - my soul brother.
I believe he will win but the time is not his. Many of us have been waiting for Hillary to win since 1992. The Dems will have an extremely difficult time and he can't afford to be pompous when he needs all the help he can get.
And Doll, you shouldn't be divisive within your own party. You must remember the older generation and remember that more people truly did vote for her whether the votes were counted or not (or were manipulated within the Dem party) and therefore more than half of the Democrats in the country feel ripped off. While many of us will gladly jump on board with our party's nominee, we all expect Obama to give something up. Or we won't feel better.. And you need us.
We know how many Republicans changed their party to Democrat to vote for him because they knew they had a better chance of beating him. It worked for them. All of those Independents and Declined to States will start voting really Republican and then you'll see what we old-timers were trying to say.
I respect your enthusiasm and agree with the poster who stated that the media beat the hell out of Hillary while Obama feigned indignation.

What a dilemma. I'm a Clinton supporter who is getting deluged with calls from the Obama fundraisers because I give $$$ to democratic candidates. Give more to Hil or give it to Obama in case he has a chance in hell of winning the presidency? What a dilemma.

Caruso and Hillary have the same chance of winning; roughly better than Bob Hertzberg and worse that Zev.
I wouldn't give a dollar for the whole lot of them

So you're saying millions of Clinton supporters are mindless lemmings and will only vote for a candidate on her say so? Like I'd tell my kids: And if Hillary tells you to jump off a bridge, are you going to do that, too?

We should have coffee sometime. And I can tell you all about the time I was confronted by some older generation "Hillraisers" and called a traitor to my gender, a traitor to Feminism, and a "little ingrate" because I did not support Hillary Clinton and all the efforts of the older Feminists who worked so hard for all the freedoms I now enjoy. I was crushed. Because these were women I respected. And then I found out I wasn't the only one being attacked. Thank gawd for Rebecca Walker:
"Young women are not stupid. The idea that young women are too naive to realize the pervasiveness of sexism is an old Second Wave trope used to dismiss and discredit an entire generation, many of whom now support Obama because he doesn't insult them. As a result, there are a few women lining up behind the "feminist" placard, but many more running in the other direction.
Far from being ungrateful or unintelligent, these women know that confrontational political labels and a religious fixation on gender aren't productive. They, rightly, choose to enjoy the rights they should have had all along, and find other, more complex approaches to righting the rampant injustice in the world. Hillary's gender is not enough to win their vote, and she needs to show them that she knows it."
she goes on:
"I am not entirely certain that the calls decrying Feminism's death are incorrect or even undesirable. Perhaps a Feminism that has not responded to the needs of its constituents needs to die. Perhaps Obama is unintentionally killing feminism and facilitating the rise of "feminisms." We shall see. He has clearly addressed the issue of ageism. Young people are not marginalized in his campaign or team of advisors. In fact, young people of all backgrounds have come out in support of his message by the hundreds of thousands. This generation has yet to do the same for Feminism."
Yeah, let's have coffee and talk about being "divisive" and how respectful the older generation was to me.
My treat.
xoxo

VD typically takes one sentence and ignores the gist, reflecting her own shallowness. As an Obot. And chiquita, you're NOT that young, except compared to those over 55 who remember the radical changes feminism wrought, and life before that. But they're by now means the whole of Hillary supporters -- many are Gen Y, skipping your generation, but people who are smart enough to realize that Obot spouts a lot of egotistical, vapid talk about 'change" and "hope" but has no substance or experience. But you can't cope with any of the SUBSTANCE of 2:26's comments, so you seize on one sentence, take it out of context, and ignore the rest. So YOU, VD.

Another ironic twist to this Hillary/ Obama discussion, of feminists or, as Valley Doll depicts them, the "feminazis" Limbaugh loves to hate:
Cindy McCain is emerging as a figure in her own right, even Entertainment Tonight tonight featuring her hairstyles evolving from strict, older looking to younger and looser, even comparing her evolution and potential style to Jackie O's. In her early 50's, she's "petite" and pretty, and looks and acts a lot younger -- she's becoming a foil to her husband's "old guy" image.
Plus, compared to Michelle Obama, it's Michelle who people see as the more feminist, brusque, loud and brash type -- a lot like HIllary, in fact. Both Ivy-educated lawyers and outspoken, big-boned and sort of dominating their men physically as well as by personality.
Cindy's no dummy, either. She's a USC grad, but you can't hold that against her. They should play that up in Cal - then again, it might backfire with the UC crowd.

There are two ways for a former candidate to pay off a campaign debt: keep raising money from donors, or pay it off from personal funds, however those are obtained. Nothing wrong at all with appealing to supporters, supporters of the victor, and anyone else who might be feeling generous, for help.
Get over it, V-Doll, or learn something about politics.
