Primary Post-Mortem
Presidential politics bore me to tears, and for some reason, this cycle is especially bad. The posturing, the panting pundits, the pageantry, the puppets—err, candidates. It all just grates on my nerves. So, let’s go local, because despite a record low statewide turnout, it was a fun night with a few unexpected twists in the Mayor Sam faves.Who knew? Despite Stuart Waldman’s key endorsements and perceived front-runner status, Bob Blumenfield pulled an impressive—and decisive—53% in a four-way race. Waldman and Laurette Healey each drew 21%.
No surprise there… Fran Pavley defeated Lloyd Levine 2-to-1. Unfortunately (as others have pointed out), this doesn’t mean he will now go away. Someone, somewhere, will find him a public teat to nurse while planning his next run.
Lord, have mercy! In recent weeks, Bernard Parks locked up a series of big endorsements and the momentum appeared to be on his side, but yesterday he fell short of the magical 50%—and, um, short of Mark Ridley-Thomas by five. The two face a run-off in November. Here’s to five more months of great bloggings from Parks!

It's amazing: the Parks Family Employment machine continues to roll. I hope that Bernard Parks JUNIOR isn't elected to this office some day on a PERCEIVED image of public service.
All Bernard Parks does is use city or election funds to employ his family while maintaining an aloof, do-nothing bitterness.

Stuart Waldman lied, cheated and sold himself to tobacco and big oil. He slimed a good man and came up way, way short. There's a big hole in the ground where Stuart used to stand.
Can Stuart's shrew-attorney wife withdraw that complaint against Blumenfield?
If Waldman can't tidy up that mess, he might as well unburden himself of all his political ambitions. Going nuclear has its consequences.

Well, in Bob's case I guess cheating and being dishonest helped him, but talk about karma.. haha Lloyd deserved to lose. Maybe he will know what becomes of those who are not loyal to each other.

Now the question is how the hell do I vote in November. I really do not want a sleezy cheating lying jerk representing me in Sacramento.
When Bob and Howard Berman are sharing a jail cell together I guess Laurette and Stuart will fight it out in a special election.

Bob had antonio, berman, waxman, the la times and most importantly lloyd levine - who would ever vote for stu if his boss did not endorse him.
Stu needs to lose weight and hang out at the vu.
Good thing Lloyd lost.
Mayor Sam's prediction was right. Pavley won with 65%.
I think Lloyd had a lot of great environmental initiatives, including the spay-neuter efforts, but there was just something slimey about him that I didn't trust.
Great environmental, but something creepy.
Lloyd did a lot more for us in SoCal, like getting the funds for the 405/ 101 interchange lane fix that's helped a lot; but this wasn't played up, Pavley had better PR, and Lloyd got hit with the silly lightbulb stuff that sounds more catchy. They ALL need to do a better job for us in Sacto of getting our fair share of Transportation funds -- the Gov says he's stealing $800 million of our surplus gas taxes this year, after taking $1.2 billion last year and no one's looking or fighting. Republicans in cowpile Stockton, meanwhile, have more than their fair share.
The idiots like Alex Padilla and Felipe Fuentes are too busy pushing AB212 to be able to push developments of all kinds, from Verdugo Hills to high-density affordable housing slums-in-the-making, to do anything useful.
The rest are taxing plastic bags and beer. Pavley's bills tax business but give SoCal nada. Hey, Democrats: do something useful!
I agree with 2:15, except if you read the blogs like on Daily News, Lloyd was killed by his spay/neuter bill -- people didn't like that he was mandating at what age exactly to do it, not that it shouldn't be done.
Really, all those useless Democrats should emulate the Republicans from shit towns and work on getting more money for the communities, for roads, infrastructure, smog relief (Hahn's right about one thing, we bear 85% of the truck traffic from the ports, people get sick and are dying, but we get no relief).
And why aren't those crooks Fuentes, Pacheco and the rest trying to get back our stolen $2 billion in surplus gas taxes instead of undermining homeowners and taxpayers with "affordable housing" bills that they'll have no say over. What losers we've got.

Lloyd really did a lot of great things, but got caught up with the lightbulb, bag and "bachelor" shenanigans. I'm involved in spay-neuter stuff and I think he pushed it too far with the age thing. He also got too close to Ed Boks, who is nothing but trouble.
Well, we see now what Lloyd's bad publicity got him. Too bad. He was on the right side of most things, I think.
I know most of those who comment here, felt I was just a wannabe or simply outclassed, but I gave it my all like everybody else. My precinct inspector stated it correctly: this election was bought and paid for. Some of us have been ethical, but what can you do when the cards are pre-stacked against you? I'm just glad I didn't have as much invested as some. We all got to know each other very well on the campaign trail and most of us liked each other. Bob, despite a coterie of sycophants and handlers, did not deserve this election! By the way, opponents. Please pick up your illegally-posted signs!
i love how the anti-spay and neuter people think they were the margin of defeat in the 23rd senate race when in reality, no one in that district really gives a crap about their issue. Seriously barking up the wrong tree, but then again, they relate to dogs better than people... hilarious!
The anti-spay neuter "crowd" (all 150 of them) think they made the difference in Levine's defeat. So why didn't they make a difference for Waldman, who mercilessly kissed their collective ass and received their unstinting support after deciding it would be yet another way of getting back at former boss Levine?
The answer is that they had very little to do with either outcome.

Talk about lack of class - the vitriol against Stuart - attacking his wife, calling Dan a "shitheel" for a relatively benign post - that person clearly has a problem.
Give me a break. It wasn't skill or merit that won, it was the machine. I'm not saying it is wrong or right - it just is. Remember that the next time you feel invincible. You now have to be nice to the hand that feeds you. What Howard giveth, he can taketh away just as easily.
I don't have bad feelings for Bob -he saw an opportunity. And it's hard to blame Berman backing his own guy. But for Lloyd, it seems karma did pay him back. People do pay attention to one's actions; as I recall, Benedict Arnold is not remembered too fondly by the history books.
Speaking of Bluto's, Higby, did you read in LA Observed that Hertzberg isn't runnng for anything?
