Mucho mulch in Griffith Park

JM, Mulch This, 10.14.07 - click image to enlarge

Because Mother Nature can no longer be trusted in the City of Los Angeles, the City is "hydromulching" the Griffith Park fire burn area this weekend. From Los Feliz, it looks like the whole southeast Mt. Hollywood hillside is being spraypainted by helicopter.

The seasick-green mulch job will cost the City over $2 million. The purported reason for helping nature repair itself is to prevent mudslides; but longtime Griffith Park observers may also consider how the work may speed up of the implementation of Councilman LaBonge's development-friendly Master Plan for the park.

I wondered why it took so long to spray the hillsides with the grasseed and chemicals to help it grow faster. First smart thing I have seen them do since the fire.

You need rain for the seed to take.

The illegal alien mexicans steal the seeds and send them back to mexico. The midget mayor is behind the theft of the grass seds.

I'm sure LaBonge considered Plexiglass but rejected that option as too cheap.

But, seriously, fires et al are a natural process. While I don't follow local issues much, I don't think anyone is calling these people on their grand plans and the linked "news" report certainly isn't.

I was afraid they were going to developed a 22 room hotel at the top of the point with parking for 3000 at the Autrey Museum. Glad things SEEM to be normal

Actually, there is a serious problem at Griffith Park that you could send ZD to investigate, maybe actually do some good for a change.

The fire prevention around the LA Zoo is practically non-existent, but the General Manger keeps maintaining that it is adequate. It isn't. He just doesn't want to spend the bucks to protect the animals.

If he can get the Fire Department to do a survey, that is all they'd need to make it happen.

Push LaBonge's buttons Dave, and maybe I'll concede you are doing the right thing.

Remember, I said "maybe".

fuck LaBonge and his bullshit waste of 2 mil.
those parks were around getting burned and regrowing long before his sad sorry ass ever got anywhere.
pompous friggin windbag.

Yes, he is a windbag, but he loves the park and Los Angeles.

He doesn't much like ZD.

6:31pm,

You seem to know what you are talking about, alright. LaBong is no ZD fan. It's a real shame the districts is stuck with a big shady dummy. He looks to Reyes for intellectual inspiration. Anyway, Tom has a lot to hide. And I hope he is smart enough -- and can control himself enough to not let his "dumbth" get in the way. AND IT'S LOS AN"G"ELES...NOT LOS ANELES, TOM.

Yes, they are very natural, but having to deal with a fire and/or a flood in Griffith Park can affect too many people, too many homes, etc......never to be the same again.

The only problem at Griffith Park is all the illegal aliens taking over the park on the weekends. I have see large familys of mexicans with their cholo kids at the park. It just ruins the family atmosphere it used to have. And now you see graffiti in all the bathrooms, these people are really disgusting they way can ruin a nice place.

Oh no...SUSANA REYES (DWP Human Resources Director) is also chair of Sierra Club Angeles Chapter Political Committee!

Do you think she will ask the Sierra Club to endorse new city taxes that help pay DWP salaries? (Where she is human resources director?) conflict of interest? you be the judge. and hopefully a real on

As for Suzanna Reyes, we understand that she can be had rather cheaply. Just ask Joe Avila who managed to get her to have a private meeting with him in order to force a political endorsement...a meeting that Suzanna readily agreed to having, savvy? No, she's not the sort of wench one would want to take home to Mummy, savvy?e will be involved. October 07, 2007 10:01 AM
