Death of Local Radio at KABC?

With the announcement Monday that Don Imus is returning the airwaves on New York's WABC, concern among local radio fans is that morning radio man Doug McIntyre could be replaced by Imus at KABC, also owned by Citadel Broadcasting, owner of WABC. Given the reported payment given to Imus by Citadel its likely they'd want to recoup some of the investment by syndicating Imus.

Citadel doesn't necessarily have to wipe out McIntyre to get Imus in LA. One option is to give Imus the slot currently occupied by a rebroadcast of Peter Tilden's late night KABC program from 2:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. Another would be to air Imus against McIntyre on their ESPN radio outlet down the dial at 710 am. This would not necessarily be unprecedented; for years Imus broadcast his show out of WFAN sports radio in New York. Should McIntyre be booted for Imus; outside of weekend programming, it would leave only Al Rantel's morning and evening shows as the only local programming on the station.

Besides McIntyre's fans, KABC might have trouble from another source opposed to Imus' return: African American activists who are still upset over remarks made by Imus that lead to his original firing; referring to a mostly African-American girls college basketball team as "...nappy headed hos."

Uh, the people who listen to talk radio do not want to hear leftist east coast inside the beltway drivel from a nasty old man.

If McIntyre goes, I go.

With KABC personalities like Doug McIntyre, Al Rantel, former KABCer Kevin James, sounding the clarion call and exposing the woes and dark side of the Los Angeles "over-development", Mexification culture, is it no surprise that the establishment are doing something to stop them? Yes, it is no doubt that Citadel is being encouraged to "change it's evil ways".

What idiot gets credit and deserves firing for hiring a low rated host like Imus?

It's been decades since Imus was at the top, or even middle, of the ratings pack.

byvfifThis is just another way of sticking us with the "Fairness Doctrine"!

Loyal KABC listeners only want to hear the TRUTH about LOCAL politics and we only heard it from Kevin James, Doug McIntyre, and Al Rantel.

I, for one, cannot listen to Peter Tilden, Larry Elder or Sean Hannity!

Don Imus would be SUICIDE for KABC! Who in the fuck wants to listen to this garbage mouth...he's way beyond his shelf life!

If KABC MUST put Imus on...let it be during RED EYE...no one listens to Peter Tilden anyway and we will all get more sleep!

Doug McIntye has too much time...4 hours is waayy to long. McIntyre needs to tighten up his show and concentrate on local politics without all the boring personal stuff. His jokes are only amusing to himself and his side-kick, Bob Marinko.

PS....Firing Kevin James was a HUGE mistake for KABC!

Looks like it's gonna all be up to Al Rantel from now on! Kevin James is gone and now it looks like Doug will get the axe!

Al, you don't really need the 11:00 a.m. spot...it's way too short! If KABC MUST HAVE IMUS...put him on from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. and keep Doug on from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. At least Doug would be on drive-time radio!

Since we all spend way too many hours stuck in gridlock during rush hour, we need Doug! I will ever listen to Imus during rush hour cuz I would be in a very bad mood when I reached my office!

Talk radio is my salvation and the only way to survive life in LA! I truly hope KABC has the guts to fight back!

With the Fairness Doctrine, we would be force to endure the likes of Patt Morrison, Larry Mantle, and the "ULTIMATE HORROR", commentary from the "WWG".

The fact that you say "African Americans" were offended at the so-called Imus comment shows what a white supremacist liar you must be. ALL African brothers and sisters were offended, my friend. Not only the Africans who happen to have a passport that says so-called "united states of amerikkka" on it. African brothers and sisters must UNITE against such attempts to control our minds into believe the so-called white man is the supreme ruler of this universe.

Did they teach you that at LAUSD??

Antonio will make sure that those teachers stop telling our young people that the so-called white man is the supreme ruler of this universe.
