This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm an ex-mayor. Los Angeles is a magnet for people from all over the world. Some of them run for public office. Inevitably some of them stray from the golden rule and rule for those that have the gold. That's when I go to work. My name is Yorty. I'm a dead pol.

I don't think that's Jim's baby or is it? Cute as pie.
Is Antonio's team getting to these board members? What the hell is going on with all these board members either not running or leaving? Rumor has it they've been told if they go against Antonio it wouldn't be in their best interest.
Lansing bowing out of LAUSD
Harbor Area board member promoted after-school programs, student achievement and safety in his eight-year tenure...In his eight years on the Los Angeles school board, Mike Lansing carved out a niche as an independent thinker, staunch advocate for after-school activities and reformer of a once-troubled construction program.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all.
Here is a little Christmas gift to all of you in Los Angeles who still believe in the sprit of giving.
Today I give you the fulfillment of my promise to follow through in the fight against Prop R. There will be a full update on Wednesday but for now I thought you would like to know, Prop R goes back to LA Superior Court on January 25, 2007. More on which Judge will hear the case Wednesday, but we are very encouraged by recent rulings and the choices we have in judges.
So for today enjoy your loved ones and friends. Get home safe as you won’t want to miss what is in store for the New Year.
Thank you, for all you have done for us.
David Hernandez

Antonio is sweet talking all these board members just like he did Parra and Huizar, two guys that were once on the other side. And just like a dive bar floozie, they are being swept off their feet, just like Huizar and Parra. At least Parra had the nerve to not stick around. The others must be suffering from battered wife syndrome - they just can't say no. Thge "coalition builder" has destroyed democracy in Los Angeles.

Thank you Mr. Hernandez, and the others, who are leading the fight against Prop R. Keep us posted, and Merry Christmas.

I have to admit that Jim Alger has a great looking baby with a million dollar smile.
Congrats Jim and may you and your family have a Great Xmas.
And to everyone else Happy Holidays and may the New Year bring us great news and policy based stories on Mayor Sam and less hating and useless gossip.

OK To the two ingrates who attack a baby on Christmas and hurl racist comments, I would tell you to go to hell but it is painfully obvious you're already there.
and even to you I bid you a Merry Christmas and hope that whatever cross you bare that you must stoop to the center of the earth to hurl attacks on a child rids itself of you in short order.
Or, you could just do the world a favor and remove yourself from the human gene pool... until then, your comments will be deleted.

Why would any sane person put a photo of their kid on a blog. If you don't want to hear ALL SIDES, then delete thread. You communist moron. We live in a free country.

Free Speech
The issue of free speech is very important in discussions about blogs and blogging, as noted in London's business-oriented Web site Silicon.com (May 15): "In the same way that the Internet and technology provided the original facility for both sides — those who want to be free and those who want to constrain — it also provides new opportunities for communication and anonymity. IP tunnels, proxy servers, encryption, phantom email accounts and spoof addressing are among the obvious examples — not to mention the hiding and/or embedding of data in apparently passive files! And then there are all the tools used by the spreaders of viral infections and bot networks. All could be turned and used to keep free speech alive and safe."

Hey 2:08, while I agree with your diatribe the blog administrator does have the right to set limits on acceptable behavior on his own blog. Not even sure what you mean about an "Alger America".
If some idiot started spewing racist comments as CJ suggests, or attacked a baby, then that post should be deleted (especially on Christmas).
As for living in a "Free" America... compared to what?
You can't yell fire in a movie theater, can't get on a plane or enter government buildings without being searched. We imprison more of our population then every other industrialized nation.
As a "free" American we are under nearly non-stop surveilance from both government and private industry. Have virtually no protections from searches of our cars by law enforcement. You can't smoke pot, can't pay for sex, can't drink until your 21, can't carry a gun, if you're gay can't get married, if some get their way I won't be able to choose to have an abortion. The list goes on and on.
Point is, freedom has limits that have been traditionally placed on it by government, the private sector and yes, even blog administrators. America may be many things, but a "free" country? That depends on what you compare it to.
