Lawsuit To Prevent Ballot Measure Re Illegal Aliens

The City of San Bernandino is filing a lawsuit to prevent the city's citizens from voting on ballot measure that would combat illegal immigration. The issue is whether the proponents, led by Joseph Turner, obtained the required number of signatures.

You can read more about it here: http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/california/la-me-sanberdo6jun06,1,3347351.story?coll=la-headlines-pe-california .

Actually, the article states that the City of San Bernardino HAS NOT filed a lawsuit regarding the ballot measure. No one has. The City Council simply voted to consult a judge in order to avoid a lawsuit.

It's important to read an article before you write a post about it.

Get this. In order to put this thing on the ballot, 30% of voters at the last preceding mayoral election must sign it. That equals 2,216 or 4,771, depending on the formula that the judge will decide on. In any event, that means that San Bernardino's electorate is between 7,000 and 15,000. Why the hell do the decisions of such an insignificant IE town merit an LA Times article? Why the hell is this being discussed ton Mayor Sam's Sister City, the home of LA politics???

oh you're saying- anyone who believes ill-legal immigrants are breaking the law entering our country are racist. That's a trick to shut them up. But, you are the racist, you are ignorant, un-american and have no understanding of our US constitution and the importance of borders defining country. Furthermore you do not understand american or mexican history. Unless you are of Indian extraction you are an immigrant. The real question is "are you legal or ill-legal?"

I just don't understand why Wacko feels compelled to parallel San Bernardino's political attitudes with those of the city of LA, which this blog is supposed to focus on. San Bernardino is a dwarf compared to LA, and it's politics are radically different from ours. Why compare apples to oranges?

You see we have your number now...Why should any country want you? You did so well taking care of Mexico. YOU did nothing to make America what it is today, you're just here to take what you think is yours. Shut the "pie hole" and quit acting like America owes you something. America is a melting pot. Start melting.

Actually, the blog entry says "is filing," not "has filed."
It is important to read a blog entry before commenting on same.

The article does not state that the City is filing a lawsuit, either. Read it.

I hate the LA Times. Its not a newspaper but a piece of rag you can use for doggie doo doo. If you read all the press around the outskirts of LA Costa Mesa for example they are all doing something about the illegals in their cities. People are tired of their arrogance thinking and demanding they get the same rights even though hardly any of them want to learn English, or apply for citizenship.

Mitch, my friend, let me quote you a passage, and let me explain what it means.

First, the passage:
"Instead, prompted by a letter from Los Angeles attorney Dana W. Reed, the council voted in closed session to ask for a judge's decision on holding an election."

Second, what it means:
The City is going to file a lawsuit for declaratary relief. One does not simply "ask for a judgd's decision." To get "a judge's decision," one must file a lawsuit. Okay? Get it now?

You should probably start looking at real estate adjacent to South Coast Plaza. LA will NEVER support anti-illegal immigration policy to take root here. And you should go discuss this at another of the Bear Flag League blogs, not this one, because this is the "Home of Los Angeles Politics."

Mr. Moore, thanks for the clarification. The situation wasn't clear to those of us who don't hold law degrees.

I kept pressing the point because I thought the post was misleading, i.e. this action doesn't mean the City wants to prevent a vote, lawsuit or no lawsuit. I wasn't just trying to be a jerk.

No problem, and call me "Wacko." No, wait, don't call me "Wacko." Call me "Walter."

Reasonable people can disagree civilly, and, through polite discourse, can often resolve the disagreement or simply agree to disagree.
